Gage laughed. Now he was really looking forward to the dance. He was glad he asked Lily. Gage mede a mental note to owl his brother, Logan, and ask him about dress robes.
Gage noticed that their hot chocolate mugs were empty. "Did you want any more?" Gage asked, pointing toward her mug. He didn't, but if Lily did, Gage could try and call over a house elf for her.

Lily shook her head. "Oh, no... I don't think I could possibly have any more!" she said. "It's very rich... The house elves really know how to make good hot chocolate, don't they? I'll have to come back for some more another time."
She set down her empty mug and looked at him with a smile. "I think I want to go back to the common room and write to my parents. Would you mind walking with me?"

"Yes, I'll have to come back now that I know how to get here," Gage said. He placed his mug next to Lily's. "No, I don't mind walking with you at all," Gage said. They said goodbye to the house elf that had served them and headed out the door from the kitchens. With a genuine smile and a little laugh, he offered his arm, his elbow pointing out a bit. "To Gryffindor tower?" he asked.

Lily laughed and slipped her arm through his. "Sure, let's go," she said as they began to walk.
"So," she began conversationally. "I heard you're friends with the Hufflepuff champion, Maxi. I feel bad, because she didn't seem to do very well in the first task. It didn't quite seem fair to me, you know? I thought she did OK."

"Yea, she was pretty bummed about it," Gage said. "The troll they had to fight picked her up and dropped her, broke her ankle, and STILL she finished! She didn't even finish LAST." Gage said. "She definatly deserved better," he added.
They turned and began to climb the stairs. "So do you know any of the champions?" Gage asked. "Alice did pretty good."

Lily nodded. "I sort of know Alice. I mean... she's older than I am, so she doesn't talk to me much. But she seems really nice. And Regina Curry... she's nice, too. I don't know much about the Slytherin champion, except that all the guys seem to like her a little too much." She shrugged. She didn't like to say bad things about people, especially when she really didn't know much about them.
"Maybe she's a really nice person... I wouldn't know."

"Oh...Sam," Gage said. He only knew the Slytherin champion as one of Seth's friends, but she did seem a little nice. This of course was AFTER Gage finally figured out that Seth wasn't dating her over Maxi. "She's okay, I've only met her through Seth though..." Gage said, avoiding the whole Maxi v. sam issue.

Lily smiled. Since she didn't like to think badly of people, it actually made her feel a little better to hear that Gage thought Sam was nice. "Well, I'm glad to hear that," she said. "I'm sure if she's friends with Seth, she must be OK. It was just sort of odd how she came in from Beauxbatons and suddenly she was the Slytherin champion. And why are all the champions girls, anyway? I can't help but wonder why the goblet made the choices it did."

"I'm pretty sure it had it's reasons," Gage said. "What those reasons are, well, thats the mystery isn't it?" he smiled. "Thats why so many people are in awe of the goblet and this whole tournament, no one, not even the champions or the judges, know what's going to happen," he laughed. "Sorry, kinda went off there, but it is pretty exciting, isn't it?"

Lily giggled at his enthusiasm. "No, I agree... it is exciting!" she said. "I've read about past tournaments in Hogwarts, a History. They can get really intense and dangerous. I'm glad they're doing a scaled-down version of it this year. I mean, with everything else that's going on, I wouldn't want anyone to get hurt just because of a game. You know?"
They reached the stairs now and she took a few steps up, then looked back at him. "If you had been old enough, would you have put your name in the Goblet?"

"Yea, the risk is pretty high, I mean, the first task had a TROLL, and the other tasks are supposed to get more dangerous as they go along." Gage said. "I hope everything goes smoothly and safely, it'd be horrible if anyone got hurt," he added. Especially Maxi, Gage thought.
He thought for a moment about Lily's question. After another flight of stairs, he answered. "No, I don't think I would," he answered. "Earlier I thought I would, but really, I don't think I'm brave enough to be a champion. Smart enough, yea, but brave?" He left it at that. "How about you?"
