Narcissa always adored his embraces. She did feel at home and it always seemed to give her pride when he did embrace her. Always, Narcissa had straddled both sides. She could never decide which side to fall on, however she rather be in the middle. For she loved her family to much to fall off now.
"Occlumency? I don't know of anyone at the school who teaches it," she said. Confusion was shown on her face. "What about you? You know of it." She became worried for his well-being. In telling him the truth, she had also endangered him. What if the Dark Lord could pry Lucius' mind? She would be the cause of his death and her own, along with Andi's and Ted's. "Maybe, maybe I could talk to Dumbledore, although I wouldn't know what to tell him."

Lucius was not at all keen on discussing anything with Dumbledore. He still considered the old man to be a muggle-loving buffoon, and was not about to seek him out for help. But she did make some good points.
"Hmmm.... well, you are right, I should study it, too," he said. "Perhaps I can find some books on the subject, and we can work on it together, as an extra lesson. What do you think?"

She simply smiled. "I think that would be lovely. You're really the only one that I would see anything as we're training. I don't know how comfortable I would be with someone else seeing my memories. Although, I know that doesn't give me any excuse to slack off. I'm not going to because your life is important to me as well as my sister's."
Narcissa left her arms around him. "Maybe they have something here, or in Diagon Alley. I'm sure that I could do a little extra studying on my own at school."

Lucius nodded. 'Yes, I can check Diagon Alley. If you wanted, you could do some research at the Hogsmeade Public Library," he said. Even as he was plotting this, he wondered just what it was that he was getting himself into. Lying and keeping things from the Dark Lord... it was a dangerous and slippery slope! But if Andromeda made a decent match with a pureblood, it wouldn't really matter anymore, would it?
"Cissa, I still want you to be careful around your sister if you continue seeing her. She has some very radical, dangerous ideas. For her to think it was acceptable to date a mudblood... she could try to turn you against me. Just be careful what you say to her, OK?"

"She could never turn me against you," said Narcissa confidently, "because she knows that I love you and I would be disowned by the family as well if I changed sides. I can't afford that because of what I have now. Honestly, Andi was never happy with the way we lived, and she had to find her own way." She sighed. "But I promise to still be careful about what I say. I know what I'm doing and I know the consequences, but this is something I have to continue to do. You understand that."

Lucius still didn't understand her loyalty to her sister. Yes, family was important, but it didn't seem to be as important to Andromeda as it was to Narcissa. That she would risk her family's reputation by taking up with a mudblood was only one example. Working as an auror was another. Lucius honestly saw her as a dangerous influence on his darling Cissa.
"Well, I suppose that's good then," he said. "And perhaps now that she is separated from the mudblood, she will stop all of this nonsense and make a proper marriage. She'll be much better off if she does. You wouldn't want her to be disowned; then she wouldn't be able to go to our wedding."

Narcissa had thought about sneaking Andi into the wedding if she could, or at least make her a book about it. She knew that Andi would never agree to marry just anyone. Andi still loved Ted, and Cissa knew it. She also knew that Ted still loved Andi, and she was going to try and do something about it so neither one of them would mope around anymore. Which reminded her, she needed to set up a day with Andi and send an owl to Ted.
"Perhaps," she said leaving it at that. Cissa didn't really want to speak anymore of the topic.
"How have things been going with the Dark Lord?"

Lucius was grateful for the change of subject. "They are going quite well," Lucius reported. "I'll be doing a small mission close to here very soon. And Rabastan has joined our ranks officially." If she wasn't going to be joining, there wasn't much else he could tell her, so he ended the topic abruptly.
"Perhaps we should begin to go over the wedding plans," he suggested. "I don't want to be completely in the dark about the wedding before it happens. It does affect me as much as it affects you, does it not?"

She understood that he couldn't share a whole lot with her when it came to the Dark Lord. He was going to be vague about it, however she didn't mind as long as things were going well.
Cissa smiled. "Well, mum actually wants to join in on the planning, but I'm not going to let her run with anything although I know she'll want to. The invitations are going to be sent out tomorrow seeing as I have about five left to do. Bella and I have picked out our dresses already. Other than that, I can't decide what we should have during the reception. That's where you come in. What would you like?"

Lucius smiled. He didn't really care about the food for the reception, but he knew such details were important to her. He also knew that she had impeccable taste and was certain to pick out just the right thing.
"Well, have you settled on a caterer?" he asked. "I wouldn't mind looking over menus with you to help choose one. And if you do have one picked out, I'll still go over the menus with you, if you want."

"See, that's the thing, I don't know who to choose," she said. "I've looked over everything and I just can't decide. I would rather you come look over them with me before mum has a chance to, not that I don't mind her helping."
As much as Narcissa loved her mother, she didn't want her to take over what was being planned. She didn't mind the help, but she wanted to make the final decisions, along with Lucius, rather than her mother doing it for her.

"I'd be glad to go over the menus with you," Lucius said. "Perhaps we could even arrange a sampling of a few signature dishes, if we can get the caterers narrowed down to two or three. We want to make sure we make the best possible choice, after all."
At the mention of Narcissa's mother, Lucius's jaw twitched slightly. The woman was... formidable, to say the least. Once she got involved, she would surely take over, and it would no longer be his and Narcissa's wedding. It would be Druella Black's perfect fantasy of what a wedding should be.
"We'll work it out together," he said firmly. "Your mother needn't be involved."

Narcissa noticed that Lucius' jaw twitch. She couldn't blame him. As much as she loved her mother, she didn't really want her mother to start planning anything without her or Lucius' consent.
"Great," she said with a smile. "Maybe we could do it next weekend or we could even look over the menus tomorrow since there is not anything to do, unless of course you're busy. If you are, then we could schedule some other time."

(Wow, have I really been neglecting this one since October?)
Lucius smiled. "I'll have to check my schedule, of course, but it shouldn't be a problem to do it tomorrow, love," he replied, kissing her cheek. "The sooner we can start making our own plans, the better. Your mother is, of course, a good woman, but I do believe this wedding should be about us and our future lives together, and not something that your mother has chosen. I am sure you understand."

"Of course I understand and I agree with you," Narcissa said. "I am just trying to keep her away from doing anything. You know how she is." She sighed. If she even let her mother do just one thing, then she would want to do the entire thing more than likely. Narcissa wasn't trying to be mean, but she didn't want her mother to do anything of the sort.
"Have you heard about the ball coming up? I was hoping that you wouldn't be busy that day..."
