Father-Daughter Time (Kris)

[Remus Lupin]

Once the boys headed back to the school, Rupert took Kris to the Three Broomsticks and rented a room for the night. He knew there were still more things to talk about, and he wanted to make sure she was comfortable and happy after her ordeal.

Neither of them had an overnight bag, so they headed up to the room empty-handed. He opened the door to a small but neat room with a large bed and a sofa. "I hope this is nicer than where Norah was keeping you," he commented.

Kris smiled at how the room felt homey. "It's much better.. the place she had me was in Knockturn alley." She walked over to the bed and sat on it. "The bed is even softer then where she had me." She looked at her father happy to be with him, "I'm really glad we got to you before you could to whatever she wanted."

[Remus Lupin]

"I'm glad, too," Rupert replied, sitting on the sofa and turning to face her. "Do you want to know what she wanted me to do? She gave me a choice between two things, both equally insane. I wonder if she's always been that insane, or if it just boiled over now because she was losing you?"

[Kris Lupin]

"I think the fact that she was a squib and Mom was a witch... because when she talked about her she said she should have got her letter because she had magical parents and Mom didn't... she said I should have been her daughter and she had always tried to get me to call her mom..." She stood up from the bed then walked over to her father then hugged him. She wished she had been able to stay with him.

[Remus Lupin]

Rupert hugged her back. "Your mother swore that Norah wasn't jealous of her magic... she was so sure that her friendship was more important than magic to Norah. It seems she was wrong. I'm so sorry... I've missed out on so much time with you..."

[Kris Lupin]

"I am kinda getting some of my memory back... of that night Remus was attacked..." Kris told her father not wanting to let go of him. She felt that if she did let go of him that she would lose him, "I wish I could remember everything."

[Remus Lupin]

Rupert shook his head. "It's OK, Kris. Please, don't stress yourself out over it. None of what happened that night was your fault. It wasn't your fault, and it wasn't Remus's fault. Greyback had made up his mind to attack Remus, and apparently, Norah helped him. There wasn't a thing you could do. Please don't blame yourself."

"But I was suppose to watch him. That's what I remember... I was suppose to watch him." Kris said as she finally let go and sat on the couch. She thought it had been her fault, she had really thought he had sent her away because she had let him get attacked.

[Remus Lupin]

"Yes, but it's not your fault," Rupert insisted. "You were only 7 years old. Just a year older than Remus. It was wrong of me to tell you to keep an eye on him, I should have been watching both of you. What happened was not your fault, and I want you to stop thinking that it was, OK?" He gave her another quick hug. "If you had been there, you probably would have been bitten, too, no matter what Greyback supposedly told Norah. You might have even been killed."

Kris nodded, "I wish none of it had happened. Remus had took me to Mom's grave but I felt like I was at a stranger's grave... I hate not being able to remember her... I want to remember her." She had tears rolling down her cheeks, she thought about her sketch books. "You don't think she'll do anything to my sketch books, do you? Because one or two of them have drawings of Mom I think."

[Remus Lupin]

Rupert put his arm around her and held her close to him. "I'm sorry you don't remember her. I wish I knew why... if Norah had any magical ability, I would think she used a memory charm on you... although, now that I know she can steal other people's magic and she can brew potions... I wonder if she did something to you to make you forget. I have pictures of your mother, you know, if that will help."

He pulled back and looked at her seriously. "I don't think Norah will do anything to your things, because I have a feeling she won't be going back to America any time soon. I think she's just begun with her attempts at revenge. You need to be very careful, you hear me? Don't go anywhere alone."

[Kris Lupin]

"I've already learned my lesson on that." Kris said as she thought about the attack by Greyback. "I'm glad I wont be going back to her, it's more fun with you and Remus." She looked at her wrists, she wondered if they would heal fully or if they would have scars. "I was scared the whole time."

[Remus Lupin]

Rupert smiled softly. "I was scared, too," he confessed. "I didn't know what she was going to do to you and what she wanted from me... and I was afraid she was going to hurt you anyway, even if I did do what she wanted. Kris, I finally got you back after all this time, and I don't want to lose you again..."

[Kris Lupin]

Kris smiled, "I'm glad I have my real family now." She hoped she would never have to see Norah or rope again. "I told Remus I was going to tell Sirius what I am... he said I should wait until after the Full moon cause he hopes Sirius will figure it out himself."

[Remus Lupin]

Rupert nodded. "Well, you have to understand, this is hard for Remus. He's nervous about what he is, he's had to live with it as long as he could remember. He never thought he'd be able to come to Hogwarts at all, until Dumbledore worked out this solution. And now, here you are, and you're dating his friend, when I'm betting that Remus was hoping his friends would never have to know. And now if the both of you disappear at the same time, it's going to look suspicious. If Sirius knows about you, he'll figure out about Remus, too. And he needs to be the one to decide when he's ready to tell his friends. It's tough, Kris. Try to be patient with Remus."

[Kris Lupin]

"Don't worry. I was going to wait to tell him anyway." Kris said with a smile, she leaned against her father, she was really glad to be with him, it would be too hard for her if she went to the school with the boys. "I just hope I had been wrong about him, Sirius that is."

[Remus Lupin]

Rupert nodded. "OK. Well, that's something you're going to have to talk to Sirius about, and you shouldn't wait too long. But when you do talk to him about it, you should talk about everything at the same time. I know it's scary... but if you want things to work between you, that's what you'll have to do, OK?" He reached over and patted her shoulder. "It'll all work out for the best."

Kris nodded, "I will... I just hope Remus is right about them figuring out about us after the full moon." She yawned, "I think I should lay down, the bed I was tied on wasn't comfortable."

[Remus Lupin]

Rupert smiled. "Yes, you should get some sleep. You've had a rough couple of days. You can have the bed. I'll just stay here and catch up on some correspondence. I have an old friend who lives in America, he may be able to head over to Norah's house and fetch some of your things for you. Why don't you take a nap, and I'll write to him and see if he can help?"

Kris smiled and hugged her father, "Thanks, Dad." She stood up then after walking to the bed she laid on it. She was so tired that just a few minutes after closing her eyes she fell asleep.
