Arranging a Trade

[Kris Lupin]

Kris nodded. "Sounds good, you lead the way as it was your plan." She took his hand then looked at their father, she really hoped they would get there in time. She glanced over at Remus, "You ready?"

[Remus Lupin]

"OK," Remus replied. He led the way, walking slowly toward the outer edge of the cafe. He kept his eyes on his father and the woman, still sitting there talking. Both were unaware of their presence, which was for the best. It allowed them to sneak along without being noticed. Luckily, only a few people were sitting out there, and no one seemed concerned with their movements.

Finally, they were able to reach the entrance for the inside of the ice cream parlor, then they doubled back so they were behind the large potted plant. Remus signalled for Kris to peek her head out first.

[Kris Lupin]

Kris nodded at his signal and rose a little so their father would see her. She hoped he would see her, see that she was safe and free. She also hoped he wouldn't let her know he was seeing her.

[Remus Lupin]

Rupert had just decided to take the potion and let Norah have his powers. But before he could say anything, he noticed a movement behind Norah. He looked up and saw Kris's face peeking out from behind a large plant. He twitched slightly, but otherwise did not react. "OK, Norah, give me the damn potion. I'll give you my powers if you don't hurt Kris."

[Norah Lake]

Norah smiled. Really, this was the better option, anyway, and she knew it was what he would do. Sweet Rupert, always so honorable. "So Kris is really worth all that much to you, is she? You'd give up your magic for her? Forever?"

[Remus Lupin]

Rupert nodded. "Of course I would," he said, his eyes on Kris. "Why wouldn't I? I wish I could change what happened in the past, that I'd never let her go with you. I should never have sent her away, even for her own protection. And I should have fought harder to get her away from you once Remus was better. I mean to make up for my mistakes, even if that means giving you my very soul!"

[James Potter]

James, Sirius, and Peter made it back to Diagon Alley without a problem. The invisibility cloak helped them pass a few people without trouble. Making it to the ice cream parlor, James looked around and heard voices and he decided that it wasn't best to check it out. He motioned for the guys to follow and they would just wait for Remus and Kris by the entrance of the Ice Cream Parlor.

[Sirius Black]

Sirius yawned. It had been a long day already; he couldn't believe it was only noon. "We probably don't need the cloak anymore," he commented. "You guys want to get some ice cream while we're here?" He realized it was wrong to be thinking of his stomach at a time like this, but he ws pretty hungry. The chocolate he'd eaten on the Knight Bus seemed so long ago.

[James Potter]

James pulled off the cloak and folded it up. "Getting ice cream sounds good. I've been craving ice cream." He opened the door and entered, feeling the cool air of the inside hit his face. Walking up to the bar, he ordered strawberry and vanilla ice cream mixed. The idea of bringing Lily here came to mind, but he pushed it away considering that would probably never happen and it wasn't a good time to think about it. "What do you guys want?"

[Sirius Black]

Sirius followed James into the ice cream shop. Sticking his hands in his pockets, he looked up at the list of ice cream flavors. "Hmmm... Rocky Road sounds good," he said. "I'll have a cup of that."

He wondered what Kris would like, figuring that maybe when she was done helping her dad, maybe she'd want something to eat. He noticed that they had some fresh fruit, and he added, "Could I also have a cup of cut-up strawberries?"

[Peter Pettigrew]

Peter followed the other two into the ice cream shop. He pretty much kept to himself while everything was going on. It seemed like they knew what they wanted to do, and Peter didn't want to mess anything up. He'd gotten this far with them and he didn't want to lose that.

"I'll have a cup of chocolate ice cream sounds good for me," Peter spoke up as he reached the counter. Being nice to them, Peter quickly reached in his pocket before James could and paid for the ice cream. He didn't care if he did pay for all three. It was the least he could do for them. "I guess the table near the window would be good," he said glancing to them.

[Sirius Black]

Sirius was surprised by Peter's action. He still held a few galleons in his hand, having prepared to pay for his and Kris's order. "Hey, Pete, you didn't have to do that," he said. "Thanks, though." He started towards the table, which gave them a good view out the window to where Remus and Kris were hiding behind a plant.

Norah made a face at his speech. "Well, isn't that just the sweetest thing ever. You know, you make it sound like I was terrible to her. I mean, aside from the lying and the keeping your letters from her and the kidnapping, I was good to her! I treated her just like she was my own daughter! She should have been my daughter, not stupid Eileen's!" She took out her purse and pulled out a small vial from the inside. "Here is the potion. You have to take all of it. It tastes really bad, too, so you might want to put it on your ice cream."

[Kris Lupin]

Kris looked at her brother, she wanted to run to her father but she couldn't risk Norah grabbing her. She looked back at her father worried about what they were talking about. She wanted to be with him right then, she bit her lower lip.

[Remus Lupin]

Rupert took the vial from her and held it in his hands for a minute. He opened the vial as if he was about to pour it onto his ice cream, but at the last minute, he turned his hand and flung the contents of the vial in Norah's face. "On second thought, Norah, never mind. You're a really lousy kidnapper, you know that? Kris apparently got out." He pointed over her shoulder, then got up and went to where Kris and Remus were standing. He threw his arms around Kris and swung her up into the air. "I'm so glad you're safe," he said.

[Kris Lupin]

Kris hugged him. "Remus and his friends came and found me... I was worried we wouldn't get here in time." She clung to her father ignoring the slight pain in her wrists. "She took me because I told her I was going to stay with you and Remus... a-and she said she had made a deal with Greyback..." She had tears in her eyes as she stated the last words.

[Remus Lupin]

Rupert just hugged her close to him. "Shhhhh... it's OK now. It's OK. You're safe. And I won't let her touch you again, I promise. Thanks for coming here... I almost gave her all my magic in order to get you back! I'm glad I didn't have to, but Kris, you have to know, I would have done it in a heartbeat."

[Kris Lupin]

Kris bit her lower lip as she tried to calm down. "What about my things? My summer things?" She asked as she calmed down some, "I'm glad I don't have to go back with her... I hate her and she scares me."

[Remus Lupin]

"We can get you whatever you need," Rupert said. "You spent most of the summer here anyway, so it shouldn't be a problem."

He hugged her again. "Are you OK? She didn't hurt you or anything, did she?"

[Norah Lake]

Norah used her napkins to wipe the potion off of her face. She couldn't believe the girl had managed to escape, when she'd been so close to having everything she ever wanted! Throwing the wet napkins down on the table, she got up and walked over to them, her eyes brimming with fury. "Oh, hope you're enjoying your sweet little reunion!" she hissed. "Cause I promise you, this won't be the last you see of me!"

She stormed off angrily.
