Fingers Are Crossed

[Rori Logan]

"No, no. I'm not really the picky type, and yes, I won't go out with just any guy. For instance, if some random Hufflepuff guy came up and asked me to go out with him my reply would be no, because I haven't a clue who he is. I have to know them before I make any decisions. I have had a boyfriend before, but that was last year, and he sort of disappeared and he never did return to school. I don't know what was up with that really, but ever since then I haven't gone out with anyone, basically because I haven't been asked." Rori gave a slight shrug.

"Now then. You're single too? That's sort of a shocker there." Of course the news was good news to her, but she wasn't going to get all excited about it because she didn't want to scare him off, after all they would probably end up being friends. That's how it usually ended up being. "You must be the picky one then, not me." She gave him a grin.

[Leo Agathon]

He smiled. "Well, I guess maybe I am. I mean, I've gone out with a few girls, but none of them really caught my attention, you know? It seems like a lot of girls are just kind of silly. I like a girl with a good sense of humor, but she also has to be smart. And if she's pretty, well, that's even better." He leaned back casually and glanced at her out of the corner of his eye. "Maybe I'm old-fashioned, but I wouldn't want to go out with someone just for the sake of going out with them. I have to feel like there's a real connection between us. And I like to take my time with a girl, get to know her really well. I think it's better if you're friends first."

"I have to agree with you. Of course, it's a boy in my case." She grinned. "I can't just judge that I want to date someone after seeing them for the first time, even if they are nice looking. I have to get to know them first. Plus the guy can't be books all the time and he can't be a complete idiot. You know what I mean?" It was good to know that there were people with the same ideas as she had when it came to certain things, especially stuff like this.

She started to relax more and released her knees from holding them against her chest and stretched them out. Laying back, she smiled again at Leo as her hands rested behind her head. "Do you happen to like any sports?"

[Leo Agathon]

He looked out at the lake, admiring the sun's reflection in the smooth surface. It was such a perfect day, far too nice to be stuck inside. The other students didn't know what they were missing.

He heard her shifting position next to him and he glanced over at her to see her lounging back on the grass, looking up at the sky. As she mentioned sports, he smiled. "Well, you know, of course I like Quidditch. I don't really play, though... I fell off a broom when I was a kid, and ever since then, I haven't really liked to fly. But I do like watching. How about you?"

[Rori Logan]

"I like Quidditch too. That's really the only sport I like, and know of actually. I like to practice a bit of quidditch and I like to watch it too, but I also like to play. I don't really know about any muggle sports, never seen them," said Rori. "I love to fly every once and awhile, but I'm sorry you don't really like to fly. Maybe you should try it again sometime. I'll go with you, and I wouldn't let you fall off."

[Leo Agathon]

"Maybe," Leo agreed. "Maybe if we stayed close to the ground. It's a little embarassing to admit, but I guess it's actually more than just the fact that I don't like it. I get a little... nervous when I try to fly. See, I fell off a broom that I stole from my cousin. I didn't really know how to use it and I was flying around pretty crazily. I nearly crashed into the side of my uncle's house. But when I tried to avoid it, I shot straight up in the air and lost my grip on the broom. I was very lucky that I wasn't killed, actually. My uncle came out at the last minute and slowed my fall, but I still broke both legs." He gave her a sheepish smile. "Ever since, I kinda freak out about flying. I was a mess during flying lessons in first year... Madam Hooch had to ride the broom with me."

[Rori Logan]

Rori leaned herself up on her elbows as she listened. "Aw. That would scare just about anyone out of flying. I promise we won't go high in the air, we'll just stay low, close to the ground until you get used to that and slowly get you higher, but not all at once. And, I won't tell anyone your story about flying." She gave him a smile. "I don't have any embarrassing stories like that, I don't believe. I know that I have some others and Voltaire could tell you a few. He keeps a picture of my other cousin, Anna, and I in pink frilly poofy, dresses when we were about eight. I don't really remember why we were dressed like that, but that's sort of embarrassing to me anyway."

[Leo Agathon]

Leo smiled. "Well, with you to help me work through it, maybe I can do it," he said. "But if you don't mind, I'd like to get to know you a little better before I hopelessly embarrass myself in front of you by freaking out and clutching the broom while screaming at the top of my lungs." He shook his head. "It's stupid, I know... but I can't help it. But I know you're right. I shouldn't let myself be afraid of it forever. But I wouldn't worry about the pink poofy dress. I'm pretty sure my mum has a picture of me wearing short pants, suspenders, and a beanie. What could I do? I was only five." He chuckled at the memory.

"That's completely understandable. I wouldn't want a stranger to help me to fly either." Rori blew a piece of hair out of her face then started to giggle. She put her hand over her mouth to muffle her giggling. Just the thought of Leo dressed like that...... "I'm sorry," she said in between giggles. She laid back on the grass again and calmed her giggling down. "I shouldn't laugh, but just the image of you like that is just too funny."

Leo laughed. "Yeah, well, I bet you were just adorable in the pink frilly dress," he said with a wink. "You probably looked exactly like a pink fluffy cupcake. I wish I could have seen it."

The breeze had stopped altogether, and the afternoon sun was now beating down on them with an unseasonably strong heat. He nodded towards the lake. "So... what do you say to a little swim?"

"Gee thanks," said Rori rolling her eyes. "I did look like a pink fluffy cupcake. Voltaire reminds me of that if he wants me to do something for him."

Once the breeze stopped, Rori leaned up again on her elbows. "A little swim," she repeated looking from Leo to the lake. She knew that the water was probably cold, but there was nothing else to do. A grin started to tug at the corners of her mouth. "Sure. Why not." Rori stood, brushing herself off. "Ladies first," she said gesturing to Leo to go ahead and jump in.

[Leo Agathon]

Leo laughed. "Oh, you're funny," he said, rolling his eyes. "Tell you what? I dare you to go in first. And you have to jump in, and when you do, you have to shout Herbert's name. Then we'll see if he comes when you call him." He looked at her, his hand perched on one hip, looking like he very much doubted that she would go along with it.

Rori thought about the dare for a moment. There wasn't anything to be scared of, so why not do it? She perched her hand on her hip, mocking Leo's stance. "Alright missy. I'll do it," she said with a wink as a grin appeared on her face. Rori shed the light jacket she had been wearing, not wanting it to get wet. She straighted out her t-shirt and took a few steps backwards away from the lake so she could get a running start. "You're next and you have to jump in as well, even if Herbert is over here." She started to run towards the lake and yelled Herbert's name as soon as she was in the air.

Leo watched her jump into the water, screaming Herbert's name as she went. He laughed, then, as she resurfaced and looked at him, he replied, "OK, a deal is a deal." He took off his robe, revealing a T-shirt and jeans. Then he backed up a little bit and took a running start into the water just as she had done. "Herbert!" he yelled as he jumped in next to Rori.

He went under, surprised at just how cold the water really was. As he resurfaced, he let out another yell. "Holy crap, that's cold!"

As Rori hit the water, the coldness stung her skin. Once she resurfaced, she shivered but stayed in the water, staying afloat. She turned her attention to Leo and looked at him with a grin on her face. "Come on Mr. Leo," she said before she took off his robe.

Once he jumped Rori started to laugh. She watched as he went under and started to laugh harder as he resurfaced. "Really? I thought it was scorching when I hit the water." She gave him a wink and then splashed him. "It's supposed to be cold! The lake is always cold actually, even in the summer."

[Leo Agathon]

He laughed. "Well, I went swimming in here once and it wasn't quite as cold as this. But then, it was an unusually hot day. It had been hot for about a week before that, so I guess the water had enough time to warm up." He swam a lap around Rori. "I don't think we can stay in here very long, we're likely to get legs cramps or something in this temperature. I just can't believe you actually did it. Do you always take dares?"

[Rori Logan]

Rori watched as he swam around her and then nodded in agreement. "I'm glad that you think that way, because I personally think I would turn into an ice cube if I stay in here too long. I'm willing to take a chance, what can I say?" She gave a grin. "I wouldn't say I always take dares. It actually depends on what it is, but I haven't gotten any too crazy ones. What about you? Do you always take dares?"

Leo shivered from the icy cold water. "I usually do take dares. Sorry, I guess it's just a macho guy thing. No guy wants to admit that he's too much of a coward to do something. So, yeah, when my friends give me a dare or a challenge, I usually do take them up on it. Trouble is, a lot of times the dares involve flying... that's usually when they get me. I don't think they know just how bad my fear of flying really is, though."

He laughed as he looked at her. "Your lips are turning blue," he said. "We'd better get out of here... race you to the shore?"

Rori reached up and touched her lips with her hand but it was no use, her hands were cold as well. She nodded. "Race you, and I do believe I'm going to take a head start," Rori said as she started swimming as fast as her nearly frozen arms would let her.

Getting to shore, Rori pulled herself out of the lake and sat on the grass drawing her legs closer to her trying to make herself a little warmer. "You don't happen to know any drying spells do you," she said glancing over to Leo.

Leo was shivering wildly. "Yeah..." he said. "If I can keep my hand steady long enough, I can do it. Just hang on." He concentrated very hard until his hand was steady, then pointed his wand at her, uttering a drying spell that also had a warming effect.

"Now... can you do one on me? Just.. point your wand at me and sort of move it around in a circle movement. But try not to shake. Just say "radiatus,"
