Sirius moved in closer to her and gently pulled her arms from around herself and replaced them with his own. "Kris, come on. Don't be so down on yourself, OK? I know you've been hurt. It has to really hurt to be rejected by your own parents. If my parents were anything but nasty, hateful monsters, I guess I'd feel pretty hurt that they pretty much hate me, too. But just because your dad didn't want you around doesn't mean you're not a good person and that you don't deserve to be with your family, OK? Remus needs you. He's lucky to have found you. Don't ever forget that." He leaned in and pressed a kiss on her forehead.

"I know... but because of my father I don't even remember my own mother... I never even got to go to her funeral." Kris said as she leaned against him. She hated her father for ignoring her and not letting her be with the family.

"I'm sorry, Kris," Sirius said. He was at a loss for words. He couldn't imagine what it would be like to forget your own mother. Of course, Sirius wished he could forget his own mother. But he didn't think that it would do Kris any good to mention that to her. "Your whole life has been completely messed up, and it really sucks. I wish I knew a way to make it better for you, but I don't. All I can do is be here for you, and tell you that I love you. I know it's not much, but I hope it helps, just a little bit."

Sirius gave her a soft smile. "You'll figure it out," he said. "The important thing is, you're here now. And you can talk to him again, and stay with him. These things have a way of working themselves out. You'll see. Just hang in there, OK? Just keep trying to talk to your father and try to put your relationship back together again. It may work, it may not. But it's worth trying. And if you find that your relationship is broken and can't be fixed, then so be it. But look at you and Remus. Remember when he first found out about you? How angry he was? How he didn't believe it, and didn't trust you? He got over it. These things can work out in time."

Sirius shrugged. "If you ask me, you're not really missing out on much by not knowing your father very well. It's really pretty much his own fault, isn't it? He sent you away. What's he done to deserve you? Nothing."

"He may be your father, but he's not your dad," Sirius pointed out. "He's your father in name only. But he wasn't there for you, he didn't love you and support you and take care of you, like a real father is supposed to do. Look at my family. I wish I could forget all about them. They never loved me, they treated me like just another house elf that they could control. I'm like a prisoner in my own house, and I have no freedom at all when I'm there. So does that mean I should love them? I can't."

Sirius put his arms around her again. "Well, it's true we only get one set of parents. And you already missed out with your mother. If you really want to make things work with your dad, you should write to him. Constantly. Until he has no choice but to respond. And if he doesn't, then you'll know... it doesn't mean as much to him as it does to you."

Sirius sighed and began rubbing her back comfortingly. She was confusing him. One minute, she wanted a relationship with her father, the next minute, she wasn't even willing to try. "It's OK," he said. "Just cry. Let it out. You'll feel better."
At least, he hoped she would. He wanted to laugh with her and play, maybe fly around the Quidditch Pitch. He wasn't used to being the sympathetic type.

"Well... maybe you need to get your mind off of it for a while," Sirius suggested. "You're worrying too much and it's not good for you." He leaned in and kissed her on the cheek. "Come on. Let's go do something fun. We could go fly around the Quidditch pitch. Or maybe steal some snacks from the kitchens. What do you say?"

Sirius smiled and took her hand, relieved that he had managed to get her to stop worrying and do something fun. "Well, you know me," Sirius said. "I never worry about anything. Why bother? Life's too short to spend it worrying."
He pressed a kiss to her forehead. "Well, I know you're good at flying. We can try to practice a little Quidditch, if you want. I'll teach you everything I know. My cousin Andromeda taught me. I wasn't allowed to fly at home, but I could at her house."
