Isabella gripped his hand under the table, trying to reassure him. Meanwhile, she felt as though she and Marie needed to keep talking to diffuse the tension that seemed to be building even more. Now even the girls seemed to be picking up on it. "So, do you have any family traditions for the holiday? I've always wanted to have a traditional family Christmas... but usually I spent my holiday alone with the house elves..."

"Ah you are living the tradition! We have a dinner and we go and pick a tree and then we spend most of lunch making sugar cookies that we decorate and charm to dance around the tree. Then we have a living room pinic for dinner" she said smiling as speared some of her eggs with her fork and ate them.

Isabella sighed. "That really sounds so beautiful. I feel incredibly lucky to be here with all of you and to be a part of your family." She smiled and squeezed Voltaire's hand under the table. "How do you decorate your tree? My grandmother once used live fairies... and they even sang! It was only the one time... she died the next year..."

Marie smiled and got an idea. "well we usually use the cookies as decoration, but this year I think we'll summon fairies. They are small and usually bring blessings to a family if we make them fairy cake." she said smiling

Isabella smiled. "That sounds wonderful!" she said, finishing up the food on her plate. She stood up. "Can I take anyone's plates?" she asked, eager to be helpful.

"Here!" said Voltaire as he quickly took the last bite of food off his plate and handing her a nearly clean plate *after all you still have to wash it!* he smiled at his mother and mouthed thank you to her to which she smiled back and they both hoped for the best when it came to his father.

Isabella took his plate. "I can do the dishes, if you like. I may not be much of a cook, but I'm very good with cleaning charms." She looked at Voltaire and gave him a reassuring smile. Even if he was still angry, Isabella felt that she'd rather deal with her father in law's anger than her own father's.

Marie smiled, generally pleased with a woman that she called daughter in law. Voltaire however slumped out of his chair and watched his wife wave the dishes clean and send them into the cabinets.

When she was finished with the dishes, Isabella sat back down at the table next to her husband. His sullen silence was becoming noticeable, and it worried her. "Would you like another cup of coffee, darling?" she asked softly.

"Oh? what? No, no thank you... AH... Well I was just thinking of the tree...yeah you can never be too sure of which tree you get...I remember a year we had a squirrle in it... they aren't terribly nice." he said fiddling with a napkin. He was waiting for his father to say they were leaving. Evariste however waited for both Anna and Rori to finish eatting and change into warmer clothing, they knew the routine so he really didn't need to remind them.

Isabella slipped her arm around his waist. "I'm sure it'll be fine," she whispered to him. "And remember, no matter what happens, I love you." She pressed a kiss on his cheek.

Evairste felt a pang of guilt for being so angry with his son after seeing his wife speak just so to him. He didn't want to seem uncaring so he took the last sip of coffee from his cup and asked "are you three ready? We do have to get the tree sometime before lunch" he said hoping his tone was as light and eager as he was hoping.

Isabella gave him another squeeze, then stood up. "I'll go get those pictures, Marie," she said. "I know it can't make up for not being there, but the pictures are pretty good." She gave Voltaire one last smile before she left the kitchen.

Marie smiled and clapped her hands happily, it was as good as she was going to get for the moment. Voltaire however went back to his seat and began to nervously fiddle with his napkin again. he then said "I'm ready when ever you guys are." but his eyes never left the table and napkin.

Rori stood up and pushed her chair under and grabbing Voltaire's hand. "Come on Uncle, Anna, and Voltaire, let's go," she said smiling.

Isabella came downstairs a few moments later, carrying a small photo album. She smiled at Marie. "I guess they've gone?" she said. "I hope everything will be OK." She shook off her dark thoughts and held out the album. "Did you want to look at them in here or in the sitting room?"

Marie smiled and said "Let's go into the Sitting room, I'm sure Epit is over joyed at the thought of clearing the kitchen after breakfast." as she stood from her chair. She opened the kitchen door only to have Epit quickly pop over the kitchen and begin cleaning it. "I'm not even out of the room yet Epit!" she said and the popping and poofing stopped for the moment they both stood at the door.

Rori walked towards a tree and shook her head then walked over to another tree, which was about twice her size, counting the width and height together. "What about this one?"

Isabella walked over to the couch and sat down. She waited for Marie to join her, and she opened up the photo album. "OK, here we are getting ready. Anna and Rori you know, of course. The maid of honor was my friend, Emily, she's an Auror. And the little girl there, our flower girl, that's Natalie. She's the girl we were babysitting last week--she's spending Christmas at the school with her sister and older cousins."
