Wesley walked into the library at Hogsmeade. It was the first time since his supposed death that he had gone anywhere in public. He was still a bit uneasy about the idea of being spotted by Greta Weiss, but he had decided that he was done living in fear. Right now, he just needed to live. And he had a job to do. Olivia had given him an assignment--to research the locket she'd left for him in the cave. And he decided that his first step would be to investigate some of the old books to see if it matched any known relics.
Natalie, still silent after almost a week, was at his side. She was pretty much always at his side these days, as if she was afraid to let him out of her sight. He couldn't really blame her for that, after all that had happened. Still, he was worried. She was not coping with her sister's death very well. He held her hand and led her inside the library and over to a large table in the middle of the room. "All right, just wait here," he said. "I'm going to get some books, and I'll be right back." He waited until she had sat down, then walked over to the shelves to begin searching for what he needed.

Natalie sat down at the table and looked around. She didn't really want her father to leave her alone; lately it seemed that everything frightened her. Most of all, being alone frightened her. That was when she saw the visions and the flashbacks of her sister dying. She hated it, it made her feel sick inside every time. She couldn't help but think it was all her fault. That she had caused it somehow, by being taken, or by not warning Sabrina properly. Now she had her dad back, but part of her wondered how long it would be before she lost him again. She turned in her seat to make sure she could see him from where she was.

Wesley saw that Natalie was watching him from her seat, and frowned worriedly. He was going to have to find a way to break her habit of clinging to him soon. She couldn't continue to be so dependent on him. She would start school in a few months, and he wouldn't be able to be with her all the time.
He gave her a slight wave, then turned away. He was going to have to go into the stacks, and he would be out of her sight. He hoped she would be OK. With one last glance in her direction, he walked down the aisle and disappeared among the stacks.

When her father disappeared from her sight, Natalie began to panic. What if someone was lurking in the stacks, ready to take him away? Or what if someone came along and took her away while he wasn't there to stop it? It didn't even matter anymore that she hadn't seen any visions of anything like that happening, the fear still built up inside of her. She'd never even had any visions about herself, anyway, so she had no way of knowing whether someone might come after her. She began to shake wildly, but she tried not to cry out. She was supposed to be quiet in the library... but she really wanted to scream. Desperate to keep from crying out, Natalie clamped her hands over her mouth and began rocking back and forth.

Isabella walked into the library, planning to do some research on Slytherin's locket for Charles. She took a quick look around and spotted Natalie, sitting alone at a table with her hands clenched over her mouth and rocking back and forth uncontrollably. Immediately, she rushed over to the girl. "Natalie!" she whispered, putting her hands on her shoulders to keep her still. "What's wrong? Where's your father?"

Natalie was relieved to see someone she knew and trusted, but she didn't speak. She just pointed in the direction of where she'd last seen her father. Breathing heavily, she put her arms around Isabella and buried her face against her shoulder. As she did so, she was overwhelmed with emotions coming from Isabella. She knew the split had happened, that the baby was gone, and Isabella was feeling alone and confused. If only she could have prevented the baby's kidnapping...

"Shhhh," Isabella said. "It's OK, I promise. I'm sure your father will be right back. I'll stay with you until he gets back, OK? Just relax... it's going to be OK."

Wesley walked back toward the table with an armload of books. As he came into sight of where Natalie was, however, he saw Isabella holding the girl. He hurried over, nearly dropping the books in his hands. "What happened? Is she all right?" he asked worriedly.

"She's OK, I think," Isabella said, letting go of Natalie and looking at him. "She just got scared. I walked in and she was shaking wildly, so I came over to help her. Wesley, is she still not talking?"

Wesley set the books down on the table. "No, she hasn't spoken since that nightmare she had," he said quietly. He sat down next to Natalie and put his arms around her. "It's all right, I'm here, Natty girl. I told you I'd be right back." He looked over at Isabella. "Thank you for helping her. It's a lucky thing you were here. What brings you to the library, anyway?"

"I'm sorry, Wesley," Isabella said. She looked worriedly at Natalie, who was now clinging tightly to her father. "She's been through a lot. It'll just take some time." She stood up. "I actually came to do some research myself. Some information that may eventually help me get my son back. I'm surprised to see you out in public. Are you sure it's safe?"

"Well, I can't keep hiding forever. My biggest threat now is Greta Weiss, and after what she did.... she's not likely to be walking around anywhere. She'll need to be in hiding, perhaps permanently." He sighed. "Meanwhile, I'm trying to research this necklace that I found in a cave in the Forbidden Forest. My wife Olivia stole it from Craven, and left it for me to research. So here I am."

"A necklace?" Isabella repeated. She looked at him in surprise. What were the chances that they were both here to research the same necklace? Surely there were lots of necklaces out there with important histories or mystical powers. Weren't there? She decided to stick with him and see if she could figure out whether the necklace Wesley had was the same one Voldemort was looking for. "I can help you research, if you want. The stuff I came here to work on... now that I think about it, finding anything here was kind of a long shot."

"Are you sure?" Wesley said. "I mean, I would like the help, but I am very good at research. After all, it was pretty much my job for a long time. I can help you with yours, if you want. I know it must be killing you to know that... he... has your baby. I felt the same way when I found out Natalie had been kidnapped."

"Well, I was just going to research some possible locations," Isabella lied. "I don't know if it would do any good, but I suppose we can try. But I'll help you with yours first, since it's at least something that's tangible." She took one of the books from the top of the pile. "What does it look like?"

Natalie finally pulled away from her father and sat back in her chair. She was getting a sense that Isabella was lying, but she also knew that she was doing it for a good reason. She was doing it for her son. Natalie said nothing, just stared straight ahead.

"Well, it's really quite an ugly thing," Wesley replied. "It's made of gold, and very heavy. On the front of it is a large S surrounded by two snakes with their heads and tails intertwined. It seems to be a locket, but it won't open."

Isabella kept her face expressionless. Based on the description, it sounded very much like Slytherin's locket. But she didn't want to say anything, in case it was true. "All right, then, I guess let's start looking," she said, opening one of the books.

"Very well," Wesley said. He checked on Natalie for a second, making sure she was all right, then he opened up one of the books and began flipping through it. "You know, it's kind of you to help, but it's really not necessary, Isabella."

"Don't be silly, Wesley," Isabella replied. "This will go much faster with two people. And you helped me look for Conor. I'm just returning the favor. Really, I need to feel useful at something right now. The search for my son is going no where, and I'm really starting to feel helpless... and that's not a feeling I'm used to." She continued to look through the book, trying to find any images of Slytherin's locket, to prove that the locket Voldemort wanted so badly was the same as the one Wesley had in his possession.
