Severus noticed the action and snorted "A fine pair we make" then took out a spare bit of parchment and began to doodle on the edges.

"You can talk to me," Justine said, feeling a little wounded. "I don't bite. Much." She stared down at her desk.

"So you don't mind that i talk to you?" Asked Severus "You seemed to not want to..." he said keeping any real tone out of his voice, he didn't know what to make of this girl.

"It's just that most people don't talk to me," she said, still not quite looking at him. "They think I'm weird."

"I know exactly how that is...I wasn't very popular in muggle grade school either. Hogwarts has been a pleasant surprize" he said quietly. He felt very happy that he had friends like Rori and Natalie.

"I didn't have any friends there, either. It was even worse there, really." She pushed her hair out of her eyes again and focused her gaze just over her head. "I accidentally did magic before I knew I was a witch and they thought I was a freak. " She glanced quickly at his face, trying to imagine this small, greasy haired kid in a muggle school It must have been really tough for him, she thought. At least she had looked relatively normal most of the time, if a little plain and ordinary looking.

"...Muggle school was...horrorfiying. I hope never to go back and if i can, forget i ever went" he said seriously.he flicked his fingers as if he had something on them and looked down. Memory lane wasn't a happy place for him.

"I'm sorry," Justine said a little awkwardly. "Did you always know you were a wizard?" She started to say more, but again closed her mouth tightly. She was sure he wasn't interested in her sob story, especially since he seemed to have one of his own.

"My mother is a witch from an old pure blood family, the Prince's" he said staring hard at the desk. "But that didn't change the fact my father didn't think to highly of old families or wizards for that matter" he said bitterly. He really didn't start thinking on that train of thought!.

"OK, class," Isabella said, standing up. "Today we are going to work on curses and counter-curses. Can anyone tell me a curse that has a known counter-curse?"

"Well, any dueling spell has a counter. The counter is Finite Incantatem." said Rori.

"Very, good, Miss Logan. Five points to Ravenclaw. Finite Incantatem is a counter-curse for just about any curse that is currently active. Unfortunately, it doesn't work on the Unforgivable Curses. There is, unfortunately, no counter-curse for them, so your best hope is to not get hit with one. Now, can anyone name some other curses, and I'll tell you how to use the counter-curse that will block them?"

"Um, what about Protego?" said Rori fiddling with her quill.

"Well, Protego is a Shield Charm, and in a way in can be a Counter-Curse as well. But it won't protect against every curse. Some of the curses are too powerful to be blocked by a shield charm." Isabella walked over and tapped the board with her wand, causing some words to appear:
Engorgio--Reducio
"Can anyone tell me what these two spells do?"

Naicelle raised her hand and said, "Um the first one Engorgio makes the target larger in size and the second one Reducio makes the target smaller in size. I think."

"Very good!" Isabella said. "Five more for Ravenclaw. Since these two spells are opposites, one acts as a counter-curse for the other. If someone is hit with an enlarging curse, they can reverse the effect with the reducing countercurse." She walked over and tapped the board again, and more words appeared:
Diffindo--Reparo
"Here are another two spells that are opposites," she said. "Can anyone tell me what these do?"

L.J. walked into the classroom, put her bag down and said ''Sorry im late Professor, but, Reparo undoes a damaged object, i suppose Diffindo, means to damage an object'' She said quietly.

"Yes, that's right. I won't give you any points, because you were late... but I won't take away any, either. To be exact, Diffindo splits an object. It's not generally used on people... but if you're holding something, say a bottle of water, and someone uses this spell on it, it could distract you in a duel." She tapped the board again and two more words appeared:
Stupefy--Renervate
"OK, now does anyone know these two spells?"

L.J. spoke up again ''Stupefy is a summoning charm, Renervate reverses the spell...I think''

"That is correct. Five points for Slytherin." She walked over and tapped the board one last time, and one more word appeared:
Reversi
"OK, now this is another counter-curse that will work with almost any spell. Does anyone know what it does?"
