Zander smiled at Pearl and reluctantly released her hand. "So how do you like your new shoes? Are they comfortable?" he asked.

"Oh they're great!" she said quickly. Then it struck her what she had nothing else to say so she thought over quickly on what they could talk about.
"Um, Do you know what spat-cell is?" she asked smiling and fiddling around with her fingers.

Zander laughed. "They're like little dumplings," he said. "You'll like it." He sniffed the air. "The food smells good. But I also smell something else... someone familiar..." He looked around and spotted David. "Hey, isn't he one of Greyback's pack?"

"Ah, so you've scented him too... Yes it's David...we shouldn't bother much with him, he comes and goes as he pleases..." she said suspicious of David's scent. "I've never heard of such a thing!" she said referring back to the soup.

Zander nodded. "Yeah, I don't know him very well," he confessed. "I didn't know anyone too well, really. I kinda kept to myself. We'll leave him alone." He looked back at Pearl. "Yeah, I bet there are lots of things you haven't tried, huh? I can't wait for you to try it, so I can see your face light up the way it does when you experience something new."

David just nodded in agreement with Chloe. "Maybe we can meet up afterwards. I mean we haven't spoken in awhile, and hey, I've missed my friend, what can I say?"

"Yes, it does," he teased. "And it's the most beautiful thing I've ever seen." He shivered as her foot brushed his leg. "I'm not quite as worldly as all that. I haven't been many places, so there are things I haven't seen except in books. But I'd love to take you to some of those places. Like Paris or China or New York City. I bet you've never seen a skyscraper, have you?"

"what's that? Does it really touch the sky?" she asked amazed. "Wouldn't the wind blow it down?" she asked trying to picture what that would look like. It sounded so impossible.

He laughed. "Skyscrapers are really tall buildings. They don't actually touch the sky, because the sky isn't solid, but they are very tall. And they're built to withstand the wind, so they don't usually blow down. It would have to be a very powerful wind to knock one down."

"Fenrir said that in some places the wind howls and tears whole houses out by the floors! is that true or was he just telling me stories so I would go to sleep at night?" she asked leaning toward him, her elbows on the table.

"Well, it's true, sometimes that does happen. But it's rare. It only happens in really bad storms, like tornadoes, or hurricanes. But we don't get those around here," he added. "Here, the wind may howl, but it doesn't usually do that much damage."

"Yes...He was...Both good and bad...But everyone is to an extent...I...It's just hard for me to see him the way you do...But then again...I now realize that what he does is wrong." she said admitting it to Zander.

"I know," Zander said. "And I know you two were close, so I don't want to bad mouth him to you, even though I didn't see him the way you did. But I've made an enemy of him. If we see each other again, we're going to fight... and I don't see him letting me win next time." He sighed heavily.

Pearl looked sadly at Zander "No, I can't picture him letting you win...Fenrir...Fenrir is an exact opposite of you Zander...more than accept his wolf...He made it overcome his human side...he's unbalanced." she said this sadly, it was something she had always denied.

Zander sighed. "Yeah, I gotta warn you... I can be pretty stubborn sometimes. Most of the time, actually. It's one of the reasons I didn't get along with my parents. But I'll try to relax and let you teach me." He reached across the table and took her hand in his. There were so many things he wanted to say to her, but he wanted to be sure she was ready to hear them. He hesitated for a minute, then said, "I'm not sure when it happened, Pearl, but... you.... you mean everything to me..."
