"Really? I guess you have a point, moving to another country, getting used to a new way of life, I admire that you made such a choice!" he said kindly. "I haven't had a pet in years, I got Subject as a way of teaching , uh, someone a few spells but he ended up growing on me so now he normally lives in my pocket eatting nuts or what have you." he said smiling at the thought of his rat. "Do you think i should change his name? He's not exactly a Subject anymore" he said pensivly

"Yes, it was a large transition. It went from being really warm outside everyday to actually being rather cold each day, not to mention rainy. It will take some more time to get used to it, but I will eventually, I hope." She laughed somewhat and then shook her head. "It is only a matter of time." She fell silent as she listened to Voltaire tell her about his pet rat and how he had named him subject since he had been used to teach someone to do some spells. Esme looked at him, thinking about the question that he had asked - the one about changing his name.
"Well, that is completely up to you. If you think that he should have a name change, then change his name. However, if you think that his name suits him, let him keep it. It is entirely up to you." She fell silent again as they continued to walk.

"I don' t know, I'd like to think he has more personality than just Subject, but what, I'll have to ask him when i get him from the hogshead" he said laughing at the thought of him sitting subject across from him at a table with to cups of tea, asking him what name he liked better, Jack or sabastian.

Esme laughed somewhat as well at what Voltaire had said about asking hit rat if he liked a name or not. She shrugged and then thought for a moment. Animals had their own way of communicating. She told this to Voltaire.
"Well, I am sure that if you actualy did try to communicate with your rat, he might actually reply. Animals have their own ways of communication, which I am sure you are aware of. But, you just have to be able to listen and pay attention for it, for the animal will not just speak as you and I are now, but more rather, they will give you signs." She fell silent, leaving her simple explanation at that.

Esme laughed at Voltaire's comment and then nodded, jokingly. "Sure, why not sit down to a nice cup of tea and some little biscuits. That sounds simply delightful." She fell silent and shook her head at the thought. She hoped that he was joking. She could understand trying to talk to a pet, but she could not see actually having a nice cup of tea with it. She shook that thought from her head, figuring that Voltaire must be much more intelligent than to sit and have a cup of tea with his rat.

"I think i will have a cup of tea with my rat. I'm sure he'll prove better company than Oldgen's Olde Firewhiskey!" he said jokingly, seeing the shocked look on the woman's face, he guessed she took him seriously. Oh well humor isn't always understood. so he merely shrugged and smiled and they continued there trek towards the school, they were nearing the front gates as it was.
