Chloe knew Knockturn Alley wasn't the place for her, but she had heard about a potion that could help prevent her from transforming on the full moon. Normally Chloe would just ignore that fact, but she had a job, and she didn't want to just disappear again on a full moon. She heard a man say that you could by a book that had the potion in it in Knockturn Alley, so she decided that she would go look for it. Chloe walked on into the bookstore and looked around. She ran her finger over the spines of the books looking to see if just the titles would help her out any. As she was running her finger over the spines of the books, the bookcase started to fall. Chloe's instincts kicked in, and ran to the other side, right before any books fell or the bookcase hit the ground. Chloe sat the bookcase up right and took a deep breath. That was a close one. She looked around to see if anyone was looking. She didn't see anyone looking, so she smiled to herself and continued her browsing.

Zander walked into Borgin and Burke's, looking for some sort of talisman he could give to Pearl that would cloak her scent, so Greyback wouldn't be able to find her if he was nearby. He knew they had some cloaking devices here, so he thought he'd check it out. It was actually the first time he'd even been in Knockturn Alley, and yet, no one seemed to blink an eye at his presence.
As he walked into the shop, he saw a tall, pretty blonde over by the bookcase. He could hear a sharp creaking noise and knew it was going to fall. But before it did, the girl jumped out of the way, blocked the bookcase from falling, and put it back upright before he even had time to make a sound.
"Wow," he said. "That was.... impressive..."

Chloe turned her attention to the voice, and catching a wiff of his scent. It smelled to her like old leather, which was one of her favorite scents, and a little of a werewolf scent as well. Chloe's mind went into defensive mode. What if he was working for Greyback? She didn't want him to find her. "I didn't think anyone was around." she said regaining her posture. "Um, thanks, I guess." said Chloe beginning to look for the book she was searching for.

Zander gave her a quick smile. He noticed that she sort of sniffed the air, like he'd seen Pearl and some of the other pack members do, but more subtle. As she turned back to the bookcase, he caught a whiff of her scent. She smelled like rosemary and basil. He wasn't sure if that was her real scent, or if it was simply a scent that was on her from an outside source. So he asked, "Excuse me, do you work in a restaurant?"

"Yes, I do." said Chloe still searching for her book and didn't find it. She let out a frustrated sigh and turned to the other bookcase. Chloe found a book that had the title Potions. She opened it and flipped through the pages, but found nothing about the potion to help prevent transformation. "Why do you ask?" she asked the guy.

"Oh, no reason," Zander said, peering into the display of talismans. They all seemed to be completely out of his price range, so he moved over to the bookcase. Maybe he could find a cloaking spell of some kind instead. "Just a feeling I got. Hey, do you need any help finding anything?"

"I do believe the name of the potion is called Wolfbane. Have you ever heard of it?" said Chloe still looking for a book that would contain the ingredients. "I'm looking for a book that has that potion in it, and I can't seem to find it."

Zander had heard of it. Greyback had talked about it in very negative terms, saying that it was a crutch for weak werewolves who wanted to fight their dual natures. He also understood that it was still being perfected. What would this girl need with a potion like that? Unless... He shook off that thought. "You're not going to find a book with that potion in it," he replied. "It's still experimental. You would probably need to talk to a potions master about it."

Chloe sighed and ran a hand threw her hair. "Great, just great. Miss a few more nights of work." she muttered. "I'm sure Chef will understand." she continued to mutter. "Stupid Fenrir." she said a little bit louder, not meaning too. "Maybe I'll just uh, make a trip up to Hogwarts and see Slughorn. Maybe he tell me about it and um, thanks for your help." said Chloe still looking around on the bookcases. Maybe she'd find something of interest.

He stared at her. "Did you just say Fenrir?" he whispered. "As in Fenrir Greyback?"

Chloe felt as her stomach dropped to the floor. Chloe knew she was a bad liar, so she just told the truth. "Er. Yes, I did." she said quietly. "You know him?" asked Chloe raising an eyebrow and looking at him.

Zander took a deep breath. He didn't like confessing this, but all the signs seemed to point to the fact that she had the same "problem" that he had. "Yeah, I do. He... he turned me into a werewolf three months ago. And I hate him. You... you're not a... werewolf, too, are you?"

Chloe swallowed. "I wish I wasn't. It's taken me six years to get my life back on track. I've never worked for him and don't plan on it anytime soon. I mean now I have a nice job and friends, and I just don't want to ruin it. It's the closest to a normal life I can get. I mean for the past six years Greyback has made my life a living hell."

"That sounds like my life," he said quietly. "Well, the living hell part, anyway. I was training to be an Auror, and now I have no job, no prospects, my parents disowned me, and my brother is dead. I was staying with Greyback and his 'pack' for a while, but I had a really big fight with him and walked out. Now I'm hiding another girl from the pack, one who he turned when she was only 5 and doesn't even know how to act like a person. The guy's a monster."

"Yeah. Well, he turned me on my 18th birthday. As a present, my parents were going to make me marry this guy, and I didn't want to, but I had no say in the matter. Once they found out what I was, they disowned me, and I didn't get married. That's the only good thing out of this. But, I lived where ever I could. I had my little run ins with Greyback, but got away. I finally came back here and got a job, a house, and made a few friends. I wouldn't really use the Wolfbane potion, because I'm used to transforming on the three nights of the full moon, but I've missed those nights of work, and I don't really need to miss anymore." said Chloe. Normally she wouldn't spill to someone she had no idea, but he didn't like Greyback, so she figured that he was okay.

Zander nodded. "The night he turned me was already the worst night of my life. I screwed up on an Auror training mission and caused my partner to get killed. I ran away and I saw Greyback about to attack a little kid. I pushed the kid out of the way and he bit me instead." He smiled at her. "It seems like I keep meeting more... people like me... everywhere I go these days. I like that you've been on your own and haven't relied on Greyback. You know, the Wolfsbane potion, from what Greyback said anyway, supposedly it doesn't actually stop you from transforming completely. It just turns you into a regular wolf. It's a less painful transformation, and you won't have the same urge to bite and kill. You can basically just curl up and sleep through the full moon. Of course, that's if you believe Greyback."

"That was pretty nice of you to save that kid." Chloe smiled. "Since when has Greyback ever given me, or anyone for that matter to believe him?" Chloe picked up some other book, but put it back on the shelf. "Staying away from Greyback has sort of been easy. I mean of course I've had my run-ins, but other than that it's been easy. Once you just accept what you are, it makes life just a little easier. Have you heard about the kid at Hogwarts that's a werewolf too?"

Zander was surprised. Was she talking about L.J., or was there another kid there who was a werewolf? "No, really? There's a kid at Hogwarts? I know this one girl, that's a student there, but Greyback just turned her... he wants me to say I did it, though. But I've never bitten anyone. I just usually hide somewhere during the full moon. What about you?"

"I've never bitten anyone either, although I almost did once, but I figured out how to control it. I ask Chef on the nights of the full moons if I can leave work early, and I go home, shut and lock every window and lock the front and back doors. Then I just hide in my basement, after locking those doors as well." said Chloe. "I didn't know there was a girl at the school that is a werewolf. I only know about the little boy. I dunno who he is, but I know he's a first year. I sort of snuck around Greyback and listened. If it's one thing that will sort of throw a werewolf's scent is strong perfume. Believe me. I've used it, and regular women use the stuff all the time. Some of them have it too strong, and it throws my nose for a loop."

"Yeah, the girl is new. I didn't know about the boy... maybe I'll ask L.J. if she knows who he is." He smiled. "You must not be wearing the perfume today. But you do smell like herbs--basil and rosemary. That's how I guessed you worked in a restaurant. But it's strong enough that I can't smell your actual scent." He thought for a second. "I suppose I could get Pearl some perfume, but she's been a wolf for so long that I'm not sure she could handle the smell. Her senses are so much stronger than mine are. I need something so I can disguise her scent so Greyback won't be able to find her so easily."
