Rabastan had never been disappointed to return to Hogwarts as a class aide. It was true that there were more exciting jobs he could take on, but being at Hogwarts presented interesting opportunities that were unique to the school.
There was Roberta Sanders, of course. Being close to her physically meant that he could still manipulate her. He also had access to Andromeda Tonks, which presented a whole bevy opportunities he needed to take advantage of.
Right now, he was not exploring any of them. He was in his old common room, just observing. Slytherin did not seem to be suffering for his absence, which was reassuring. He was just about to get up from his spot by the fireplace when he noticed a familiar face come downstairs. He hadn't seen her in a while, and waited to see if she would look in his direction.

She didn't miss a beat, "Aren't you supposed to leave school once you graduate." she didn't even look in his direction as she spoke and glided down the stairs toward the common room. As usual she was dressed impeccably, not a single strand of hair out of place. In her hand she held a small book, and stopped just before him before sliding into the chair across his direction. There wasn't anyone else in the common room so she didn't mind throwing her legs over the arm of the chair and leaning into the corner of it.
If she had to be honest with herself she was thrilled he was still around. She wouldn't call what she felt for him attraction, though yes he was devastatingly beautiful, but he was the only person she had ever befriended without any pretense, he liked her for just being her. It was a fair trade between them though, she was pretty sure she was the only female to ever put him in the hero category. To most people Rabastan was a bad boy, to most girls he was a heart throb, few had ever experienced what it was like to be protected by him when so many were told to protect themselves from him.
"Some people just can't let go." she teased. Finally she glanced up in his direction and gave him a wide unguarded smile, one that she saved for him and her brothers.

Rabastan didn't move, his eyes on her as she seemed to float down the stairs. If there was still royalty in this boring little country (excluding, of course the royal family- he meant royalty in the magical world), she would be a part of that family. It was in her blood and the way she carried herself.
"What can I say, I don't want to grow up."
She still hasn't looked in his direction, being coy as always. He smiled slightly, head tilted down while his gaze remained up. Samantha might have been one of the few girls in the world that he considered an actual friend. He didn't view girls as friends. They were all potential shags, useless, or could help him in some way, and the way he responded went accordingly. He didn't treat Sam like any of these things, and even he didn't quite understand.
He didn't bother telling her he was an aide, instead shifting the focus to her. "Are you running this place yet?"

She regarded him more thoroughly, letting her eyes drink in the exquisite male form in front of her. Rabastan made her feel safe. He made her feel free. She would never jeopardize that by seeking romance, at least that's what she told herself and firmly believed. The truth was Rabastan was heartache. She could see it all over his perfect face. Heaven help the women that did fall in love with him.
When he asked her if she was running the place yet, all pretense of indifference disappeared. Slowly her lips curved into a sinful smirk that was all together terrifying and beautiful on such a young face.
"Did you doubt it?"
