Bobby hated the period right before lunch. Linny and Callie both had classes, but she had a free period, and she never quite knew what to do with herself. She had paced the common room for a few minutes before she pulled her hair back in a messy bun that still looked good on her, like only pretty girls are capable of, and she grabbed her cloak to head outside.
She didn't mean to walk so far, but she found herself by the Forbidden forest, and she finally stopped, not quite daring to go further. She heard too many stories about the forest... and wasn't this where Katie had died? Bobby shivered and was about to turn back when she heard a crunching noise that made her jump out of her skin.
She spun to see what might be ready to attack her, and her eyes met a familiar face. "Merlin, Dierks, you scared me. What are you doing down here?"

Dierks loved the idea that the weather was warming up. He didn't mind the cold that much but it wasn't his favorite time either. His hair was a curly mess but it wasn't like he ever brushed it anyway. He could just run his fingers through it and it would sort itself out one way or another.
His cloak was clasped as he took his first step outside the school. He had been counting his steps from the Ravenclaw dorm to the Great Hall. Sadly, he had lost count after the two hundred and fifty fourth step because his mind got sidetracked as one of the portraits talked to him. Dierks didn't mind the stop for conversation. Of course, he realized that if someone back home, like his neighbors, saw him talking to a portrait, they would have thought him completely mad. Shaking the thought from his head, he continued on his journey.
Once he reached outside, he noticed a familiar girl a little ahead of him. Not wanting to spoil her time to herself for the moment, Dierks kept quiet and followed her. The thought of just yelling out 'Boo' crossed his mind. It amused him greatly the idea of her reaction, but he thought better of it.
Nearing the Forrest, he couldn't help that his footsteps were heard. It was the grass that crunched underneath his feet. Stopping as she stopped, Dierks knew she heard him. He let out a laugh as she turned around. "Followin' you of course," he said amusingly. "What are you doin' down here Ms. Bobby?"

Bobby narrowed her eyes, but she started to smile too. "Don't be so amused. My heart is pounding out of my chest. It's not funny," she told him, shoving her hands deep inside her cloak pockets. Now that he asked, she had no idea why she was down here. The forest creeped her out, and being followed, even if by a friend, did not help matters.
She glanced over her shoulder and shrugged. "I don't really know. I just meant to walk to the lake or something, and I guess I kept going. I was bored in the common room."
Dierks must not have had a class right now, either, she realized, a tad late. She nodded towards the trees. "What do you think is hiding in there?"

"If it ain't funny, then why are you smilin'?" Dierks' grin widened a little. "Although honestly, I didn't mean ter scare ya. I thought 'bout doin' it 'fore we got down here but I thought better of it."
He stuffed his own hands into his pockets. "Ain't no tellin' what's in there," he said with a shrug. "Maybe unicorns, centaurs, spiders, snakes. I do know, however, that whatever is in there, I don't ever wanna run into." Muggle animals like dogs, cats, regular sized snakes, and small spiders didn't really bother Dierks. It was just the bigger versions in the wizarding world that sort of freaked him out.
"How have you been since I last seen you? I think that was probably yesterday, but lotta things can happen in a day's time. Been chasin' off guys with a stick or do I need to step in and take care of a few?" Of course, Dierks was just kidding and the teasing look said so.

Jonesy had been walking along the edge of the forrest when he heard Bobby and Dierks not too far from him. Unable to resist, he stepped just into the boundaries of the forest and quickly snuck up, getting right behind Dierks.
"Boo!" he yelled, clasping onto Dierks' shoulders. He laughed and ran over to stand inbetween him and Bobby. "Hey guys, what's up?"

Even though she had seen Jonesy coming up behind Dierks, she still jumped. Damn him, she thought, and cursing herself for being so jumpy.
"Okay," she said, a hand on her hip and the other on her heart. "Mental note to never come to the forbidden forest again. Curiosity killed the cat, and all that." She gave Jonesy a dirty look, but it softened quickly. "Were you bored too, Duggan? I couldn't handle the common room."

"Sorry Sanders, didn't mean to scar you," Jonesy said with a laugh. "I was aiming more for Texas over here," He pointed to Dierks. "Yes, very bored, there's no one of any interest to me AT ALL in the common room or in the great hall." He smiled. "So I come outside and low and behold." He smiles at the two of them. "So what are you two up to?"

"Thanks Jonesy. I'm touched that you even thought 'bout me," Dierks said with a shake of his head. "It takes a lot more than just sneakin' up on me ter scare me, you should know that." He gave a laugh then gave a serious expression. "We were just discussin' how we're gonna torture you, and 'course we were discussin' the date Bobby promised me." Dierks gave Jonesy a grin, then turned to Bobby, showing her that he was only kidding.
"Nah, I'm just kiddin'. I just ran in ter her right 'fore you came up."

There was some part of Bobby that felt a little deflated when Dierks said that he was just kidding. Of course, she knew he had been, but it always just hurt. Just a little bit.
"No, he's lying. We really were planning how to best torture you. It's what we spend all of our spare time doing." She ran a hand through her hair, wishing that it was just summer already. She missed the warm weather.
"Come on, who wants to check out the forest with me? I'm bored, but I won't go alone since what happened to Katie."

"Merlin knows it would be a terrible tragedy for the same thing to happen to you, Bobby."
It was with slight hesitation that Rabastan even walked up to them. Normally, when a girl was surrounded by guys, he wouldn't even really bother, unless he was trying to show them up. But he knew that none of these guys had the guts to talk to Bobby as more than a friend, and he wondered if it might be worth his time... or if she was too much like Callie, one of the only girls to even deny him.
"I'll head in there with you," he said. "I could use a little adventure."

"Glad to know I'm always on your minds," Jonesy laughed. "It's a good place for me to be," he winked at Bobby.
Jonesy jumped slightly when Rabastan came up from behind him. He tried to play it off cooly though, and raised an eyebrow at the Slytherin seventh year. He looked into the forrest with the same raised eyebrow, and then looked back at Bobby with a grin on his face. He wasn't about to let Bobby go into the forrest alone with Rabastan.
"Yea, me too, I'll go," Jonesy said.

Hearing Rabastan's voice, Dierks turned around. Rabastan was one of the ones that Dierks never cared for.
He looked toward the forest then between Rabastan, Jonesy, and Bobbi. "I'll go too," Dierks chimed in. There was no way that he wasn't going to let Bobbi go alone in the woods with the Slytherin. Even though he had only been there a year, Dierks heard a lot about him. "An adventure sounds interestin'. It beats just sittin' 'round doin' nothin'."

Bobby was just as surpirsed as the other two boys when Rabastan sauntered up to them. She didn't know the Slytherin that well, just by reputation. But he'd never been mean to her, and she refused to believe what anyone said about anyone else. She would have missed out on a lot of good friendships if she had.
So she smiled at him, if somewhat shyly, and then at Jonesy and Dierks. "Wonderful. I knew the lot of you wouldn't let a girl show you up."

Rabastan wasn't put off by the other two boys, but he was a little miffed that they both decided to join him and Bobby. Obviously, it was only the Slytherins who understood when to back off where a girl was concerned.
Still, he smiled and walked up to Bobby, putting his hand on her back. "Dare you to lead the way," he said, an eyebrow raised and a trademark, heartmelting smile on his lips. He loved the blush that seemed to instantly adorn her cheeks.

Jonesy kept an eye on Rabastan. He knew of the Slytherin's reputation, and he wouldn't want anything bad to happen to Bobby. Taking an opurtunity when he saw it, Jonesy casually linked his arm with Bobby's.
"Come on," he said, pulling her away from Rabastan gently. "Gryffindors aren't afraid of a little forrest," Jonesy said.

Rabastan sighed as he watched Bobby and Duggan head off into the forest. He rarely tried for a girl while there were other boys around, but it was really difficult to find Bobby not surrounded by boys. Whatever, at least he could say it was a challange.
He flashed a look at the Ravenclaw, and stuck his hands in his robe pockets, following into the forest. He just needed a few well phrased compliments, and she would all but forget about the other two.
"Funny, Duggan. You didn't seem all that keen on it a moment ago."

Bobby wasn't that blind. Sure, maybe she was blind to the fact that Neil liked her, or that half the boys she hung out with had a crush on her to some degree. But Rabastan Lestrange didn't just hang out with a girl. And it made her cheeks flush when he looked at her. She also realized that neither Jonesy nor Dierks were happy about this all of a sudden, but really, they should have trusted her enough to know that she wasn't going to let just anyone get near.
She also thought that Rabastan was largely misjudged, and that perhaps his reputation was a bit over-exaggerated.
"Come on. I wanted to check out the caves."

Jonesy didn't really have a crush on Bobby perse. It was more of the fact he was flirty with every girl in school. But with the situation, he'd rather be closer to Bobby than let Lestrange get near her. He knew the guys reputation, and though some girl's were blind to it, Jonesy wasn't.
"Well, I've re-thought it Strange," Jonesy grinned at him playfully. "The caves sound like fun!"
