Charles left Isabella's cabin and went straight to Voldemort's latest headquarters. He felt certain that gathering this information would not be particularly easy. He knew that if Voldemort did, in fact, have Isabella's baby, the child would be kept hidden in a very secure location. The Dark Lord was no fool, and he certainly wouldn't want any of his death eaters to find out about the child, at least not until such time as he wanted to tell them himself. Still, Voldemort would definitely not have taken the child himself, so someone else had to have been involved. Hopefully he could get information from one of the others.
He walked casually into the headquarters and looked around. There was no one in sight, but the mansion was large. He sat down in the large living area where they'd held their meeting and picked up a copy of the Daily Prophet.

Bellatrix had had the strangest urge to see how the infant was doing and she had been standing at the doorway of the room where the wetnurse and baby were staying. Se didn't go inside, but simply looked on as the enchanted woman cooed and cuddled the baby. Bella turned her nose up at the scene, deciding she had really been off her rocker to want to check up on him. The child was crying and just the sound of it made Bella stressed, she pulled at her heair as she walked down the stairs to where the child could not be heard.
Belatrix passed through the downstairs hallway and moved into the sitting room, still fussing with her hair that was now a mess instead of the ponytail that she had perfected earlier in the day. She shook her head at her ridiculiousness. Why on earth had she wanted to check in on the child? Her silent thoughts were interupted when she saw Charles sitting, reading the paper. She stopped midway into the room, staring at him, her hands in her hair.

Charles heard footsteps and glanced up from the paper. "Oh, hello, love," he greeted her with a grin. "I was just reading this article by Bambi Ackerson or whatever. She did a bloody good job skewering that traitor Jackson... he's going to have a tough time proving his case now." He put the paper aside and sat up, looking at her. "So. How've you been?"

Bella quickly pulled the tie from her hair so that her curls fell down over her shoulders. She knew she had messed up her hair and didn't want anyone, let alone Charles, to see her like that. She smiled and walked over to the couch where Charles was sitting, and sat next to him. She rolled her eyes as he spoke of Bambi. She really didn't like her, but there was no real reason why. "Well. And yourself?" She thought it was weird, this small talk, but resigned herself to it.

"I'm doing all right," Charles replied. He reached over and grabbed a lock of her hair, twisting it around his finger. "You're looking lovely today. Do you know, I could sit here and play with your hair all day?" He gave her a smile, even as he looked at her appraisingly. He wasn't sure where things stood with her, or if they stood anywhere at all. He didn't even know if it really mattered. But he suspected that she knew something about Isabella's baby. He remembered very clearly the conversation she'd had with Voldemort at their last meeting, about revenge against the traitors. He only hoped that, whatever had happened before, she would be willing to part with some of that information.

Bella blushed as he spoke of her hair. She looked awful really. Being anywhere near the brat had the same effect on her as if she had been caring for it herself. "I look a fright." But she didn't pull away from his soft touch. In fact, she scooted closer to him. "What brings you here Mister Mortenson?"

Charles shrugged. "Boredom mostly. I thought I'd stop over and see what all was going on. And I confess, I had the vague hopes of seeing you again." He slowly traced his finger along her cheek and down to her lips. "I had a great time the other night. Best in quite a while, really. Was wondering if you felt the same."

Bella laughed softly. As far as she knew they were the only ones here, besides the baby and his caretaker, which meant very little was going on. Well, at least here. She didn't know what the others were up to. "It's rather quiet around here. At least, down here it is."
Her heart fluttered as his finger made its way down her jawline and over her lips. She had felt the same as he claimed to, but wouldn't let herself admit it. Not to him. She was still Rodolphus', even if he kept himself busy and away for long periods of time. She could mess around behind his back, even let him in on it to screw with his head, but she would never let any of the other men know if and when she had feelings for them. "I had fun," she replied. Restraining the urge to throw herself at him once more.

"Well, that's a start," Charles replied. "I'm always up for a bit of fun... you just let me know." He leaned back casually. "So, how are you doing with the search for that trinket the Dark Lord was so hot for? Or did he give you another assignment? I can't remember now."

"Trinket?" Bella cocked her head to the side, trying to remember what trinket Charles spoke of. Then it came to her; the locket. "Oh, no. I was busy with something else. Though I hear they still haven't found it. It couldn't possibly be that hard to locate a heavy locket like that." Bellatrix remembered seeing an image of the locket and thinking it was a grotesquely ugly thing. Bella preferred dainty pieces of jewelry such as the silver necklace Lord Voldemort had given her that she wore even now. And the bracelet too, though that was in a box locked up in her room.

"Yeah, the locket. Guess it's valuable or something. It's an ugly thing, really, don't know why Slytherin would have bothered with something so heavy and garish, but, hey, to each his own. I may have a lead on the thing, though." He grinned at her and began to play with another of her curls. "How's the little project he's got you working on? Is it going well?"

She was glad he shared her opinion of the locket's appearance. But she strongly disagreed with his 'too each their own' philosophy. Bellatrix had a standard, for everything not just jewelry, and didn't like it when people questioned her standards. "Really? That's marvelous. The Dark Lord would be very pleased if you found it."
She turned on the couch, bending one leg under her to that she was facing him. Her hands were sitting carelessly in her lap, she didn't even bother to pull down her skirt as she moved. It was knee length and she felt there wasn't much he hadn't seen already, if anything was showing.
Bella sighed at the mention of her 'project' and leaned her head onto the back of the couch, looking at a now tilted Charles. "It's so loud! I mean, I knew it wouldn't be perfectly quiet when I first saw it, but I mean really! Thank Merlin I don't have to look after it anymore."

Charles was momentarily distracted by the sight of her bare leg stretched out in front of him. Oh, how he'd always loved a good pair of legs... and the view that the short skirt allowed him was even more tantalizing. His pulse quickened and he had to fight the urge to make another move on her. Slowly he dragged his eyes upward to look at her face as the meaning of her words began to dawn on him. "Right..." he said slowly, shaking his head and trying to concentrate. "Noisy thing. Useless, really. Whatever did the Dark Lord want with the wretched thing, anyway?"

Bella smiled at Charles as he looked her over, but quickly hide the smile as his eyes reached her face. "The same as everything else He desires. It's for the greater good. He'll use the brat to rid the world of those filthy muggles and their supporters." Bella lifted her head form the couch as her words became more passionate. Her eyes glistened and she felt a rush of adrenaline. "And those nasty traitors will beg for mercy at His hands and be shown only cruelty. It serves them right for what they did."

Charles almost grinned when she mentioned the word "brat." It was definite proof that Isabella's baby had been taken by Voldemort. Instead, he calmly reached over and brushed his hand against her arm. "You got that right," he said casually. "Betraying the Dark Lord... can't get any dumber than that. Still, far be it from me to question him, but it seems a bit... distracting... to have it here. I'd hate to hear it squalling in the middle of the night. Some of us sleep here, you know? I hope he's got it in an isolated area of the house where none of us have to hear it."

Bellatrix sighed softly at his touch, her cheeks reddening. "That was my concern as well. I feared the Dark Lord was going to have me care for the thing," her lip curled in disgust. "But we've a nanny of sorts taking care if it, and you can't even hear him from down here."
It wasn't her problem now, if the brat fussed. It wasn't as if she were one of the pathetic creatures unable to procure themselves a proper place to live. She was only staying at the Inn until Rodolphus returned and they purchased a home together. "Wait. Don't you have another place to go? You don't stay here, do you?"

Charles shrugged. "Sometimes I do," he said. "It's a good place to crash. I've got a flat back in London, but it's not really convenient. Here is closer. One of these days I'll get a place closer." He frowned. "Do you think less of me, love?"

She sighed inwardly, relieved that he had a home in London. She had been meeting too many men as of late that simply weren't up to her standards, no matter how attractive they may be. And for a second she feared Charles was going to be a disappointment as well. Bella shook her head in response to his question, it made sense to stay here if it was more convenient, as long as it was by choice and not necessity.
"Well, I ought to be off." She got off the couch and stood, fixing her blouse and her skirt so the seams weren't twisted from moving about on the couch. Bella smiled sweetly at him and said, "I'll see you around." She turned to head for the door.

"Well, nice talking to you," Charles called after her. He was a bit disappointed that she was leaving, but at least he got the information he needed out of her. He waited for a bit, taking time to finish reading the article by Bambi Ackart about Tyler. When he was done, he carelessly tossed the paper aside and headed out to find Isabella.
