Lyra was not deterred by Nicolas' rejection, it only spurred her further as she aimed to prove that love was a farce and her heart belonged to no one. All of her troubles started when she fell for one boy and her life had been turned upside down ever since. She recognized the problem. It was the singularity. One boy. One man. She had spent years toying with the emotions of several boys at once and during that time she was confident and strong. As Nicolas had pointed out, she had been a terror back at Hogwarts. He had been training her in order to get her back to the frame of mind. That place where she knew she could do anything, take control of any situation, and fear no one. But she didn't need to learn to defend herself, she needed to relearn how to shut off her heart.
A tiny black dress and tall red pumps. This was how she was going to reclaim her life. Instead of taking a table as she had become accustomed to doing, Lyra entered Stu's and went straight for the bar. She leaned against the wooden bar top with her backside presented to the rest of the patrons. She stood, her legs lengthened in appearance by her heels which also improved the shape of her already firm and perfectly rounded butt.
She ordered a martini before looking over her shoulder to see what her choices would be for the evening. She saw a group of men staring at her and she smiled at them, before pulling the pick from her glass and running the speared olive against her lips seductively.

"Wow, look at you." Vanessa said approaching her friend, "You look killer. Seriously." she said with a wide smile, but also a little inquiringly.
Lyra did not look like the same girl who had ran out of the apartment the other day a sobbing mess. She looked ready to kick ass and take names, and break a few hearts while she was at it.

Lyra wasn't the same girl from the week prior. She'd since come to terms with the reality of her situation and understood what she was. She wasn't a socialite. She wasn't a proper lady. And she certainly wasn't girlfriend material. Lyra was a player and she was going to play the hell out of this game.
She beamed at her friend's compliment. "Thanks." She looked around the bar. The group of guys she had smiled at earlier were average looking, certainly nothing a girl would swoon over but nothing she'd turn away either. There were a few other viable options but no one that really stood out. The majority of the male patrons did nothing for Lyra. "Not a lot of options tonight, is there?"

"Options?" she asked looking out in the crowd to see what Lyra was seeing. Vanessa had never seen 'options'. She left home too early and when she found Wesley that was it for her. When he died, she still didn't see 'options'.
Then it dawned on her what Lyra was referring to, "Oh! Options!" she nearly blushed, but soon laughed and scanned the crowd with new parameters. She sneered, "Not really."

Lyra pursed her lips in disappointment but it wasn't a total loss. There were a few that, with a couple more drinks, would certainly do the trick. "Well, I guess I just need to drink until they're pretty," she said with a laugh and raised her martini glass as if she were toasting Vanessa.
She took a decent sip and then set the glass on the bar top. "Go ahead and just keep these coming," she said as she gestured to her drink. "I'll tell you when I'm good." The smile on her face made her appear carefree but the glimmer in her eye proved she was determined.

Vanessa smiled, it was good to see her friend at ease, at least she thought her friend was at ease.
"So, are you singing tonight?" she asked then nudged her playfully, "You know you want to..."

"You, my friend, are relentless and I love it." She smirked at Vanessa before taking another drink. "Is there any other reason I would come to this place?" Men, she came here for men. And to see Vanessa, but mostly, for tonight anyway, it was the men.
Lyra finished her drink more quickly than she should have and set the glass down. Drink until they're pretty, she told herself as she looked again at the blokes who had looked at her earlier. Only one was still staring. She arched her back and bit her lip as she made eye contact with him, then smiled and looked back at Vanessa.

She caught the look between Lyra and the man, with the looks Lyra was sending him, it wouldn't be long before he approached her. Vanessa wondered whether or not she should make herself scarce, though personally she thought Lyra could do better.
"I'll go put your name on the list." she said giving her friend another grin.

Lyra was settling at the moment, she knew that. But lower he bar for a tryst or two was acceptable for the moment. She had already been rejected by Nicolas today and there weren't many other options at the pub. If Vanessa weren't here and already engaging her, Lyra probably would have left and found some better prospects. But there was a guy coming over to her and her name was on the karaoke list; she wasn't going anywhere for a while.
The bloke introduced himself as Marcus and offered to buy her another martini as she had already finished hers. She agreed and made eyes at him, touched his arm gently, and laughed when he attempted a joke. For someone lacking in the looks that she'd since become accustomed to between Julian, Mason, and Nicolas, one would have thought that Marcus would have worked on having more of a personality. What did it matter, really? She only needed him for a little while in the alley behind the pub. After her song, of course.
Lyra excused herself as her name was called and promised she'd come find him when her song was over. Marcus grinned and wished her good luck. Lyra didn't even care that her voice wasn't the greatest. She was confident for the moment, all of her insecurities shunted to the side. She wiggled her hips as she sang about taking a man home for the night and when she finished the crowd clapped as they always did.

Vanessa was impressed with Lyra's song, the girl was finding her voice. But beyond that the sex appeal radiated from Lyra, she might not have had the best voice in the world, but she certainly had the attention of the house. Vanessa smirked and told the host to keep the mood, it was good for business.
When Lyra went back to her 'friend' Vanessa sang a song.

Instead of going back to the bar as she had been earlier, Lyra approached Marcus who had rejoined his friends at a table near the back corner. Instead of offering her a seat, one of the men whom she'd not been introduced to yet, pulled her onto his lap as he said "come here, babydoll." The group laughed as Lyra's tiny frame was pulled like a rag doll. They weren't attractive enough to get away with the lack of manners they exhibited, but for the moment Lyra didn't care. At least one of them offered to buy her a drink.
Surrounded by the group of men who continued giving her drinks and asking her to sit on their laps instead of simply pulling up an extra chair for her, Lyra was beginning to feel the effects of her decisions. She was more than plenty drunk as the men began taking turns kissing her and making crude jokes at her expense. Lyra didn't care. At least they paid attention to her. They found her attractive.

Vanessa cared. She was growing progressively concerned as Lyra was handed off from male to male. She couldn't monitor it as well as she would have liked; Stu's was busier than usual and she was stuck on her tables and singing. Still, when she had the chance she glanced over at Lyra and it made her uncomfortable for the girl.
Finally she went over to her, "Hey, can I talk to you for a minute?"

Lyra pulled away from the man she had been kissing, Bryan or Brandon or hell maybe it wasn't a B name at all. Who knew at this point? She looked at Vanessa and smiled brightly. "Boys, this is my friend Vanessa," she said as she grabbed Vanessa's hand. "Isn't she gorgeous?" she asked, leaning a little and forcing Brad (Bill?) to grab her midsection to keep her from falling into the nearby table.
Lyra laughed and looked up at Vanessa. "Sit with me, we're having fun!" The group agreed and egged Vanessa on to join them. Lyra tugged gently on her friend's hand in encouragement.

"I can see that." Vanessa said chewing on her bottom lip. Lyra was obviously drunk. She didn't see anything wrong with Lyra having fun, or even taking one of the men home, but as it was Lyra was dangerously close to finding herself in over her head. Of course Vanessa didn't really know Lyra all that well, still she doubted that Lyra wanted to 'service' all of the men at the table. And Vanessa had no intention of 'servicing' any of them.
"C'mon, you're up for another song."

"I am?" Lyra said with a happy shock. She pushed herself up from Benson's lap, still holding Vanessa's hand. She started to walk toward the stage and remembered she forgot to say goodbye to the men and turned back quickly. "That was rude of me," she said, bending over to meet Marcus' eye as she stood and he sat. "I will be back in a minute," she finished as one of the other men began to fondle her buttocks that she had unknowingly positioned right near his face. Lyra giggled.

Vanessa rolled her eyes. Before Lyra could get to the stage she sidelined the girl into the bathroom.
"Are you okay?" she asked then continued, "Lyra, I'm saying this as your friend, but I really think you should go home and...sleep it off."

Lyra was confused by the detour. "This isn't the stage," she said as Vanessa pulled her into the bathroom.
"I'm wonderful," Lyra said, giving her friend a hug, an act which may have been overstepping their bounds as they were still new friends. Then again, Lyra had loaned out her flat to Vanessa, so a drunken hug should have been no big deal.
"I plan to sleep it off. After I get one of them off." She laughed. "Which one do you think is the cutest? It's hard to tell."

"Yeah...I don't think they plan on making you choose." Vanessa said somewhat sarcastically.
Finally she spoke clearly, "Lyra, seriously, you're really intoxicated right now, and that's not the best time to be making decisions. You don't know anything about any of them."

"That's the whole point." She shook her head, exasperated that Vanessa didn't see it. Lyra didn't want to know anything about them. Why would she when she never planned to see them again?
"I'm not really a "get to know you" sort of girl. I'm more the girl that takes you out in the alley for an hour. How do I get to the alley from here? You've got a door, right?"

"Wow. Okay. Um..." Vanessa didn't know what to do or say to her friend. She wanted Lyra to be happy, and Merlin knew she was an advocate for equal sexual rights, but her friend was in trouble. Didn't Lyra see that?
"Lyra, I don't think they want to take you to the alley. I think they want to take you home...as in all of them..." she said hoping Lyra would get the picture, "...at once." she said clarifying.
