"Surprisingly well. She's even taken a break from bothering me to go back to work." Alek didn't like that she was working so soon, or at all for that matter. She was needed with the pack, no matter how many times she reminded Alek that she was not a werewolf she still performed essential duties. Duties which were lagging while she played sister to Dorian at the Ministry.

"You two are nothing like Geoff and I." she laughed, "But you love each other very much. I'm sorry she was hurt because of me. I'm sorry that I couldn't help more when M took me." she confessed to him. She sometimes felt guilty that Lex and Alek were so kind to her when she had caused them so much suffering.

Alek's lips pursed for just a moment thinking on Lex's attack. It wasn't Christine's fault that she was taken or that Lex nearly died. Lex shouldn't have been there in the first place. If Dorian had bothered to do his job, Lex would have had the night off as planned. Dorian Humbert was the reason Lex was attacked. And from what Lex had told Alek since leaving the hospital it sounded as though moving to the safe house in the first place was also because of Dorian. Both women had expressed some feeling of guilt over the entire situation when in actuality it came down to villainy of M and the stupidity of Dorian.
"You, my dear, are not the reason my sister was injured. And from what Lex has told me you put up quite the fight that night. You're very brave, and you should stop apologizing for the wrongdoings of men."

Christine tilted her head in puzzlement; there was something so familiar about Alek. Something in the way he spoke and acted that reminded her of someone else. The answer was staring her in the face, but the reality that this man reminded her of Dorian was too much for her mind to handle. Both men spoke as though they belonged to a different era.
Hear his words though she put her head down, "I think apologizing is a way of taking ownership. It's far more difficult to accept that there was nothing I could do. Though rationally I know it's not my fault a madman kidnapped me and nearly killed Lex, it's more comforting to think that it was an error, rather than weakness."

"You're very self-aware for a girl of... how old are you? Seventeen? Have they added philosophy courses at Hogwarts?" he teased. "But I wonder. If you were to look at it as a weakness, couldn't you then work to improve it? A mistake is unfortunate but a weakness leaves room to grow."

It hurt for Alek to ask how old she was, even if it was in reference to her wisdom and self-awareness. "I didn't start Hogwarts until this last year, so if they do teach it I'm not sure. I had tutors since I was a child. When I started sailing with my uncle, the world became my classroom. Man, Know thyself. I saw it at the temples in Egypt. But I'm not sure we ever truly know ourselves. We change all the time."
She was quiet then thinking about what he said as a weakness leaving room to grow. Christine had just said that people changed all the time, perhaps she could change too.

Alek allowed her the silence as she pondered over their conversation. Little lines appeared on her forehead as she thought. Alek walked quietly beside her, not knowing where they were going or if there was a destination at all.

They were walking outside of the gardens on the east side, just alongside a ten foot tall hedge which prevented the view of the castle. The hedge soon opened up to reveal astonishing landscaping and breathtaking views, much of which Christine was familiar with.
She was so intent on Alek's words she didn't see the decorators at first.
"Oh, that's right." she said a little despondently, "My cousin's throwing a party tonight." She stopped walking, almost as though her body said what she couldn't.

"Yes, you look perfectly up for a party," Alek said darkly. He didn't know what to expect from his visit today, but it seemed the Gods were smiling upon him as they laid the groundwork for his plans.
"I take it your date is being too foolish to attend?" he asked, sympathetically.

"An entire night of people asking me a hundred questions I don't know how to answer." she told him, "And no, he won't be there."
She took a few steps forward as though she were bracing herself for the coming evening, "Should be a good time."

Alek stood still, grabbing her wrist as she began to move forward down the path again. He pulled her back. "Would you like some company tonight? I can scare off all the nosy gits."

Christine was startled when he grabbed her wrist, but she wasn't frightened. It was a strange experience, since she was still recovering from being M's prisoner.
When he asked about the dance she was tempted, "Either you really enjoy being my savior, Lex is making you spy on me to see how I am, or..." she paused.
Alek had been flirty since he visited her in the hospital, and while she brushed it off before, she was worried she might have given him the wrong impression. She held on to the flowers he gave her.
"Alek, I like you. I do. But I just...with Dorian...and I'm just not...I can't." she said explaining in incoherent half sentences.

Her inability to form a complete sentence was endearing. He wet his lips with his tongue as she babbled and when she finally stopped he smiled at her. "It is rather fun to be the hero, though you did most of the work yourself. And yes, Lex is pestering me to keep an eye on you whenever she can't. But there is something very intriguing about you, Christine, and I would very much like us to be friends."

"Friends." she said looking at him expectantly. She rolled her eyes heavenward.
"It starts at seven." she said capitulating. She turned and kept walking to the house, though a smile played on her lips.
"You'll need a tux." she called out to him without turning.
