Personality: Shannon's nickname as a child was Sunny--and nothing could describe her more accurately. She's as bright and fresh and happy as a sunny summer day. The thing is, though, after a while all that sunshine starts to make your eyes water and your head hurt. You have to admire the way she is always upbeat, the way she always sees the positive side of things, and the way she will do anything to make you smile even when you're feeling low. But sometimes you just want her to quit. You wonder just where is the dark side to her personality, and just what it will take to get her down.
The truth is, she saw something when she was very young... something she has blocked out of her memory. And her persistent happiness is just a carefully constructed wall to keep that memory blocked out. It's so strong and convincing that even she believes it. But if you start talking about the bad things going on in the world, try to make her face up to the fact that a war is going on around her, she will shut you out with an almost creepy cheerfulness.
Family
- Mother: Mary Woodcombe, 50
- Father: Jim Woodcombe, deceased
- Siblings (if any, list names and ages):
Brother: Martin Woodcombe, 29
Sister: Karen Woodcombe, (twin of Shannon), deceased - Other family members (if significant):
History: Shannon's parents were both muggleborns who met at Hogwarts and fell in love. They married soon after graduation, and a few years later, Martin was born. Three years later, twins Shannon and Karen arrived. From the beginning, the twins were inseparable, and it was rare to see one without the other. Karen was the bolder of the two girls, and Shannon was the sweet one. If they got into trouble, it was usually as a result of some crazy idea of Karen's.
The family in general was very close, but their father was often away for long stretches of time. This was because he worked for the Ministry and was often away on assignments. Unfortunately, it was because of this that Martin made a few enemies. One day those enemies tracked him down and attacked him a block away from the family's home. Worse, Karen and Shannon had run up to the corner to meet their father when he arrived home. And when it became apparent that the men talking to their father weren't friendly, Karen, always the bold one, ran up to try and defend him. Shannon, meanwhile, hid behind a bush and witnessed the men killing her father and her sister. She was only six years old.
Shannon was found an hour later by her older brother Martin, who also found the bodies of his father and other sister. She was catatonic, and remained that way for nearly a month. When she awoke, she acted like nothing had happened... except that she never mentioned her twin sister or her father ever again. She tried so hard to pretend to be happy and normal that eventually it became true... ish.
She went to Hogwarts, of course, where she was sorted into Hufflepuff. She wasn't the best student, or the most popular, but she did her best and had a group of loyal friends. The one thing she enjoyed most was drawing, and she eventually branched out to painting as well.
You might wonder how a girl who cannot bear to hear about bad news and denies that a war is taking place happened to become a sketch artist for the Ministry. The truth is, she sort of fell into it. Vincent Corrigan, when he was still head auror, happened to see her uncannily-accurate drawings and asked her if she would be willing to work for the Ministry on an as-needed basis. That eventually became a more permanent gig, as she also designs brochures, letterheads, and other paperwork put out by the Ministry. She tries not to think about what she's doing, and why it has to be done... she just focuses on the work and won't let anyone tell her the details of the suspects she draws and what they've done.
Anything else? I couldn't help myself....
