- Difficult for most people to relate to
Personality: Xeno is an odd fellow, as you'd expect. Generally, he is likeable and friendly, but he's definitely got some odd notions and sees things in unusual ways. That's not necessarily a bad thing, though. Knowing Xeno can be a bit of an adventure, really. He'll come up with an idea and decide to run into the woods in search of the fairy queen's castle or something, and he'll happily drag you along for the ride. He has a very vivid imagination, and can make up stories with the best of them. In fact, he likes to write them down and has the most entertaining journal you've ever seen. The trouble is, he actually believes most of what he writes is true. He was taught that if you can dream it, you can live it, and he honestly believes this is true. After all, if something cannot be disproven, that means it is possible.
He's extremely intelligent, almost genius level (I have a fair amount of these, too, come to think of it), but he has difficulty concentrating on serious things. His head is always in the clouds, thinking up new and interesting ideas. For this reason, he excels in classes that allow him to indulge his creativity a little. He also likes working with animals and plants, but can be a little shaky when it comes to precision magic such as Transfiguration.
He has few good friends, and yet girls are drawn to him. He is quite attractive, after all, and his quirky, mysterious personality makes him all the more intriguing to them. But he doesn't even notice this, because he only has eyes for one girl...
Family
- Mother: Selena Lovegood, deceased
- Father: Phineas Alexander Lovegood, 42
- Siblings (if any, list names and ages): none
- Other family members (if significant): none
History: Xeno's history is surprisingly ordinary. He was born in Ottery St. Catchpole (where he will later live with Luna) to wizarding parents. His mother, Selena, was a muggleborn--her parents were both English teachers at a muggle primary school. But she had an interest in literature and art, and she loved to read stories to her young son and paint wild, fantastic pictures for him. Phineas Lovegood was a bit more serious, and worked at the Ministry in the Department for the Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures. He paid little attention to his son, and so, growing up, Xeno spent most of his time with his mother and her fantastic stories and paintings. This fueled his imagination and made him believe anything was possible.
When Selena died of a sudden illness when Xeno was 9 years old, the dreams didn't stop. He still saw his mother in his dreams, and to this day still swears that he has whole conversations with her at night in his sleep. She still tells him stories, and he often wakes up from fantastic dreams of mythical lands and beasts.
His father still takes no real interest in the boy, allowing those dreams to grow and flourish, taking over reality at times.
Anything else? Some interesting irony here: In both Deathly Hallows films, Jamie Campbell Bower appeared as the young Gellert Grindelwald. I'm using him for Xenophilius, known for wearing the Deathly Hallows symbol around his neck, even though it was misinterpreted by some people as the mark of Grindelwald.
Also, he is engaged to Bonnie Wright (aka Ginny Weasley) and shares my birthday.
And Xeno's mother's name, Selena (not canon, I chose it) means "moon" in Greek.
Finally, "Xenophilius" comes from the Greek words, Xeno, meaning "strange," and "phile" meaning "love." So his name means "one who loves the strange."
