He uses that knowledge to help him study people and make friendly conversation with people. Joseph had been a full believer in smiling at someone who looked mad or just say hello to someone who looked like they were having a bad day could make that person feel better.
He is very book smart and analytical, but Joseph also does have a humor side. He likes to joke around, especially with his children. It makes his life to be able to embarrass them, even just a little bit. However, Joseph also tries to make it known to his children that he is open and there for them if they ever want to just sit down and talk.

History: Joseph was born as Dietrich Josef Kilborn in Germany in 1918. He was raised in a Jewish neighborhood during this time, however, Joseph’s family was not Jewish. They happened to be pure blooded wizards. He received wonderful grades in the younger grades when he was extremely young and went to school with muggles. Joseph was at the top of his class and when he turned 11, he went off to Durmstrang. His parents, Wolfram and Heidi, were extremely proud of their son. They encouraged him to be outgoing and be whoever he wanted to be. With the proud support of his parents, Joseph was a very happy child. He was one of the ones at the top of his class at Durmstrang, and he was fairly popular. Everything seemed like it was just perfect.
While in school, Joseph met Hillary over the summer. Hillary happened to be a muggle. Wolfram and Heidi encouraged Joseph to pursue Hillary. He did just that. Of course, he did not bother to tell her he was a wizard right off. He told her that he went to a school not too far away and it was like a boarding school. He was able to have the summers off and return home. The two started their romance that summer. Before he started back to school, he broke the news to her that he was a wizard. Hillary was shocked at first, but she did accept him and his differences. Once school started back, they kept in contact by owl.
After Joseph graduated, he asked Hillary to marry him. Being the blunt person he was, Joseph just asked her seemingly out of the blue one day while they were walking down the street in Germany. Hillary agreed to marry him and within a year, the two were married. Married life seemed to be going smoothly. They had their own house on the outskirts of town and nothing could be better. For several years, everything was going wonderful.
Naturally, that something wonderful started to go downhill. Adolf Hitler came into power and Germany became a dictatorship. Hitler spoke about the Aryan race and killing all the Jews to make a superior race. Concentration camps were being filled all over Europe. There was no stopping Hitler. Joseph became worried about Hillary. Her father had been Jewish. Hillary wanted to check on her father, but Joseph told her they could not because it would endanger her. Every night, he would promise her that everything was going to be just fine, even though he had a pretty good idea it wasn’t going to be.
Somehow, Joseph’s secret was released to the Gestapo, which in turn they notified Hitler. Upon Hitler’s orders, the Gestapo raided Joseph’s house and pulled him out of the house, separating him and his wand. He tried to fight against them, thinking that they were coming for Hillary, but they never touched her, except when she tried to pull one man off of Joseph. The man pushed her to the ground. That action caused Joseph to start swinging, after all Hillary was several months pregnant. As a result of Joseph fighting, one of the Gestapo finally hit him in the head which knocked him out.
Once Joseph awoke, he discovered that he was not at home anymore. He was in a Concentration camp. Hillary was nowhere to be found and that worried him. He didn’t know how his wife was, nor did he know how his unborn child was. Before he knew it, men were coming in and pulling him away from his sleeping quarters and taking him to a room. Joseph met Hitler himself, who explained the reason he was taken. Hitler wanted his powers and would do anything to get them. He finally had proof that witches and wizards really existed and he wanted all of their power. Hitler forced Joseph to go through unbearable tortures. Joseph did fight back when he had the chance. Even to this very day, Joseph has no idea how he continued to withstand the torture he went through. The torture itself was indescribable. It was something that Joseph never wanted to relieve. Joseph never knew about the tests that were run on Hillary, nor that after his son was born the Germans took him too. If Joseph would have known that that had occurred, he would have found a way to make the Germans pay for what they did and more.
After years of torture and abuse, Joseph was finally released. Somehow, before his release, however, Joseph was mistakenly taken for dead. One of the Germans mistook another man for Joseph, so Joseph was “dead”. After his release, Joseph did not return home. How could he? He was supposed to be dead, and for all Hillary and his child knew, he was dead. What if Hillary found another man? He couldn’t really blame her, after all he had been gone for several years. That would have been one of the best case scenarios. Joseph did ask around in a neighboring town if they had heard anything about the Kilborn family that used to live close by. He claimed that he was a family friend and he thought he would check up on them. Soon, Joseph discovered that his wife had been killed by Germans a couple years before his release. He felt his heart shatter. He wanted to find his son, but he did not even know where to begin. Joseph changed his German name to sound more English like since he was moving to England. He thought the name change would be good for him as he started his new life over. Dietrich Josef Kilborn became Joseph Richmond.
In order to start his new life, Joseph had to talk through some things. He felt as if everything that happened to him was building up, although he did already check himself into an institution once before. He had been through hell and back and it was time he started over. There was not anything else for him. Joseph cleaned his slate, but he needed his nightmares to stop. He would have constant nightmares about his torture and seeing others being lead to their death. Becoming brave, Joseph checked himself into St. Mungo’s in order to see a doctor. He was not expecting the doctor he received.
His doctor’s name was Nadine. Joseph decided that he would call her by her first name, only because he liked saying it. He was quiet at first, but that was to be expected. Every day he went to visit with Nadine. Soon, he found that he was opening up more to her. Joseph told her everything that happened with Hillary, the concentration camp, and his child that he had no idea where he was. Nadine was a listener and Joseph felt that she wasn’t doing it just because it was her job.
Soon, Joseph fell in love with her. He knew that it probably wasn’t right if he dated his doctor. Being the outgoing person that he used to be, one morning he walked into Nadine’s office for their usual morning appointments and announced to her that he did not want to be her patient anymore. He saw the expression on her face and that expression was all he really needed to keep on. Once she asked him why, he bluntly asked her on a date.
Ever since that day, Joseph felt happy again. He felt as if Hillary led him to this woman and he had her to thank for that. Of course, it was Nadine that also helped him to move on. For 2 years, they dated. Joseph remembered the date in which he asked Nadine on the date. In order to make his proposal more meaningful, he asked Nadine to marry him on that same date, just 2 years later.
Finally, Joseph was able to settle down and have a happy life. He and Nadine had 2 children, both in which were girls. Although Joseph is happy with his family and could not ask for more, he is still in search for his long lost son. He is determined to find him.
Anything else?
