"Hey, it just starts as a couple of songs. When I got started, I played for knuts on street corners. I'd still take a four song set if it was offered." He was happy for Ramon- a set was a set, it didn't matter how many or how few songs. He glanced at Ilsa as Ramon referenced her, and smiled slightly. He didn't have time to let his thoughts linger here, because Lexi was making her presence known to him, and he just as subtly tightened his grip on her. "Anyway, I'll be there. Now, if you'll excuse us, I need to make an impression." He winked at Lexi, giving her his full attention at that point. Besides, he figured Ramon and Ilsa could use a moment to themselves. "I think they're all already jealous of me, love, but I'm always ready to make it worse." Lexi was not the kind of girl who was ever shy of anything. She'd once been caught by her parents making out with a boy on their couch, and she wasn't ashamed of it. Why should she be? So she had absolutely no qualms about pressing up against Bootes and moving to the music in a rhythm that might be considered shocking to others. Lexi didn't care what anyone thought... She was happy now, with Bootes. "How long's your shift tonight?" she asked in a low voice. "Wanna crash at my place?"

"Aw come on, babe... you know you're the only one for me," Ramon said, leaning in for another kiss. "Who else would put up with me?" He laughed at that, then gave her a little spin, just for effect. He was not a formal dancer by any means, but he kind of liked showing her off to the other people around him. "Oh, really?" Ramon said, intrigued. A lot of his songs were instrumental, and the ones that did have lyrics were mostly rubbish. Lyrics were fine and all that, but he didn't feel the same passion for them that others did. He wasn't a poet, and he wasn't good at putting his feelings into words. But he was very much intrigued by what Ilsa might have written. "You'll have to show 'em to me later, if you can. Did you bring them with you?" "Mmmm, that's not true. We both know there's a long line of girls who would love to put up with you. I think you're just scared how I'd retaliate if you ever put me second." She smiled here, showing that she was at least half joking. If there was one thing she could be sure about, it was his loyalty. But if he ever did cheat on her or treat her badly, he had to know that she wouldn't go down quietly. She felt a sudden rush of butterflies to her stomach when he asked if she brought the lyrics with her. "I mean.... not now. But they're in my bag." She brought her body back close to his from that twirl, her free hand on his chest. "And they're nothing special. Just... you know. Words."

Bootes, similarly, didn't give much thought to anyone who might disapprove of anything he did. For one thing, he was built like a hippogriff, so who was really going to admonish him, anyway? But he ha such a quiet, easy going way about him that it was futile to be angry or shocked by him at all. So it came as no big surprise to anyone that he pulled her closer still as her body pressed up to his. It was familiar and natural, between them.
Her low voice seemed to vibrate through his veins, and he smiled at her. Crashing at her place, he knew, involved very little actual sleep. But the kind of life she lived suited his late shifts, and consequently, his even later wake up calls. It was common for them to meet up after their respective shifts, and sleep late into the following day. Lexi even had a key to his place, and she knew she was welcome whether or not he was home.
"I'm closing tonight. Doris doesn't like closing up alone," he said, nodding to the bartender. "And yes... I would. How long are you staying here?"

"Hmmm, that may be true," Ramon said teasingly. "I am quite the stud, after all. But there's only one girl I want, and I think you know it." He kissed her again and wrapped his arms around her possessively.
Sometimes Ramon felt like Ilsa didn't understand just how special she really was. She often said things that, although they seemed to be jokes, also seemed to point to some deeper lack of faith in herself. If there was one thing Ramon wanted for her, it was that she would see how perfect and amazing she was. They fit together so well; two pieces that didn't fit in anywhere else, but went perfectly together.
"Yeah, now's not a good time. But maybe I can look at them when we get back to my flat."

"You are quite a stud. Believe me, I know this," Ilsa both teased and complimented him. Merlin knew it was true, though. Ilsa couldn't find a guy she was more attracted to, and not just on a physical level. She felt relaxed around him. Maybe not here, where she still had her guard up (a guard she tried to convince everyone, herself included, didn't exist), but when it was just the two of them... Merlin. The sappy side of her would call it magic.
"Well, obviously not here," Ilsa laughed, turning in his arms so that her back was to his chest, and she leaned into him, pulling his arms around her. "Maybe not even til after I've gone back to Hogwarts." Whenever that was, anyway. "And be honest with me about them. You know I can take it."

"You know I never lie, babe," Ramon said. "But I'm sure I'll like them."
Ramon was very interested to see what kind of lyrics she would come up with. Since neither of them were the types to get bogged down in sentiment and "I love yous," he wondered what she thought about sometimes. They were both people of actions, not words, and they conveyed their feelings for each other physically. Ramon never doubted that she loved him, even though the words were never said, and he hoped she knew the same about him.
"I was thinking, if you're going to stay at my place tonight... maybe tomorrow we can go into London for lunch and some shopping. Or would you rather just stay in?"

"I hope you do," Ilsa said, sincerely for once. She wasn't the kind of girl who wrote love letters or poetry, but somehow, this had come fairly... easily to her. And it was one of his pieces of music that had inspired her. She wondered if, when he read her lyrics later, he would think of the song he'd written. Not that it mattered if he didn't, she was just curious to see if they were on the same brain wave like that. She liked to think they were.
Shopping, she mused, not meaning to give him the look she did. It was bemused, to describe it in one word, and she sort of laughed, and the shrugged. "You know as long as I'm not at school, I'm up for anything." Which really meant, "As long as I'm with you..." As if to make sure he understood this (a subconscious 'as if' on her part,) she kissed him. It was okay, she figured, because he'd initiated plenty of contact tonight, and the booze and the dancing and just his being there made her want to get closer.
"We could go to that little Italian place...? I like them."

Ramon almost laughed at the look on her face when he mentioned shopping. And really, he didn't want to buy anything... he just wanted to walk around the city with her, looking in store windows and taking in the sights. He just wanted to do something with her other than just sit around his flat all day... not that there was anything wrong with that.
He relaxed into her kiss, closing his eyes and pulling her closer for just a minute, before they broke apart.
"Yeah, yeah, I know. Shopping isn't exactly practical for a guy who has no money," Ramon said with a grin. "I mean window shopping... just walking around the city and taking everything in. But yeah, we can stop at Galligan's if you want. And that coffee shop, too... I need some good coffee... I can't get a decent cup of coffee in Hogsmeade."

They both had crazy schedules and bad habits, and that was one of the many reasons their "relationship," if that was what it was, made sense. Lexi was known to stay up all night and sleep all day, if she even slept at all. A real relationship probably wouldn't fit in with her lifestyle, or with his... but what it was worked well enough for now. This was the kind of lifestyle that was only for the young... eventually time would catch up with them and slow them down. Lexi wanted to enjoy herself while she could. "I don't know," Lexi replied, resting her cheek against his chest. "I just finished a shift at the Nail, so I guess I'm here 'til I drop... And you know me... that could be a while."

For some reason, the idea of just shopping seemed sort of... intimate. Like it was some big step in their relationship, even though it definitely wasn't. They were out in public all the time, and they'd been in London before, too. It just seemed so... normal. Great Salazar, she must have been in a mood tonight, and she hated those moods. None of this, of course, was said to Ramon, and she nodded instead. "That's fine. Who knows, maybe you'll see something in a window you want," she teased him. "Or I'll climb in a window display for you."
Their time together was usually spent in his apartment, true. But Ilsa loved every minute of it. She would be lazy, usually wearing one of his t-shirts, and he'd play music for her, and it was something out of one of those very real, very gritty, very passionate novels on real life. The way she felt when she was with him- well, there were no words for that. But she'd never been more at peace with herself than those mornings that turned into afternoons in his flat.
"Mmm, Joe's. That's a better plan... I love their lattes." Somehow, in the span of just that sentence, Ilsa had ended up even closer to Ramon.

Bootes refused to believe, even as logical as he could be, that he would ever need to change his lifestyle. It suited him. It let him be around people, it let him be there for his sister. It was carefree, and in a world that was looking at a war very soon, he didn't see anything wrong with this. He smiled at her response, a sort of half grin. "Well, see if you can make it to closing, hm? I'd like to take you home, at least."

Lexi just smiled mysteriously, as though she were holding back all of the secrets of life behind her eyes. "Mmmm, I think I can do that," she said. "As you know, I have quite a lot of... stamina."
And as long as the music was pumping and the drinks were flowing, Lexi was ready to go. Although it wouldn't be quite as much fun when he started work and spent most of the night outside, she was certain that she'd find a way to entertain herself. He was worth waiting for.
"Just try not to let in too many girls that are hotter than me, OK? I don't like competition."

It felt as though she was all around him, just the two of them wrapped up together so closely that he wasn't sure where he stopped and she began. The truth was, it didn't matter what they did, as long as they did it together. But sometimes he worried that she thought he was hiding her away, and that was why he liked to take her out as much as possible. But now... well, he didn't want to be out anymore. All this talk about staying at her apartment and all the things they would do tonight and tomorrow made him rather want to get started on all of those things. But most of all, he wanted to be alone with her so they could go back into their own private world again. "You know what, babe?" he said in her ear. "Let's get out of here."

Ilsa was losing herself in the steady bass of the music. With the chatter and noise from everyone else in the club, all the songs started to sound the same. Well, that and the fact that she wasn't paying much attention to them because she was also getting lost in the way their bodies moved together. There were no words for that.
She didn't expect him to suggest leaving so soon, and she pulled back slightly, almost to make sure she'd heard it, and smiled at the way he was looking at her.
She licked her lips and nodded. "Yeah, let's get out of here." She wasn't concerned about saying goodbye to Bootes or Lexi- they were wrapped up in their own little world too. She took Ramon's hand, gesturing for him to lead the way.

"You don't have to worry, Lex. You're easily the prettiest girl here tonight." As corny as it sounded, he gave her a smile anyway. Besides... to him, there wasn't a girl in that line outside that was prettier than her. He checked his watch, speaking of that line. "I've only got five minutes left. Don't dance with too many hot guys, all right?"

He leaned in for one more scalding kiss before he led her out of the club and into the cool, crisp evening air. Already it felt better--no more pounding bass or flashing lights to distract him. "Did I mention you look beautiful tonight?" he asked, a dazzling smile spreading across his face.

The brisk air seemed to wake her up, or at least ebb her buzz away. She didn't mind. Actually, in a corny sort of way, he gave her a little high all on his own- especially with kisses like he gave her back there. Not for the first time, Ilsa considered never going back to school and just hiding away with him. What good would school do her, anyway?
She smiled and pursed her lips in a sassy way. "Yes, you have, but feel free to say it again, anyway." She would neve get tired of Ramon telling her that. She believed him, because she knew neither of them were big flatterers.
"What do you think I should do, Ramon? After school, I mean. I've suggested professional groupie.... It wasn't well received."

Ramon slipped his hand in hers, leading her away from the onlookers who were all waiting outside the club in hopes of getting in. Soon Bootes would be out there, standing in front with his formidable scowl and impressive size, sorting out the undesirables. Ramon felt a moment's guilt at abandoning Lexi, but he knew the blonde would be fine all on her own. Lexi was the kind of girl who knew how to take care of herself.
When they had a bit of distance between them and the rest of the crowd, Ramon turned to Ilsa, considering her question carefully. "Maybe I could teach you an instrument and you could join my band," he suggested. "You'd look really hot on stage. Maybe you could play bass."

It was why she acted out, why she rebelled against her parents and everything they had ever wanted for her. It was because, deep down, she had never felt like she fit in that world. She had long since decided that she didn't care, but maybe, just maybe, she did care a little. She cared that Gage and Lennie and Luka thought she was "bad" and that they shouldn't spend time with her. And she cared that her obnoxious brother Logan was regarded as the paragon, the one everyone was supposed to look up to. It was like she'd just been cut out of the family, when really, she hadn't done anything so bad as to deserve it. At least here, in the club, she was wanted. And when Bootes looked at her like that, every inkling of self-doubt fell away. He made her feel like a queen, and really, shouldn't every girl have the chance to feel that way? "Impossible," she replied, trailing her fingers along his jawbone. "Next to you, all other guys are just little boys."

Bootes laughed at her comment, as sweet as it was in her way. "Literally, you mean?" He flashed a wide smile at the pretty blonde, and he regretted instantly that he had to work. He should have known she'd be here and come earlier. Ah well.
He leaned down and gave her a surprisingly tender kiss to her lips. "Time for me to leave, love. Come check on me if you get bored. Someone might try and start something, and you know you don't want to miss that." Bootes winked at her, sighing inwardly as he let her go.
He knew shed be just fine without him, and he was okay with that. He knew, at the end of the night, it was him shed be waiting for.
