He didn't feel like a survivor. He felt like a victim. But maybe that was the problem. He was focusing on the bad, and not counting his blessings. It's just that it was so hard to see the blessings when he felt like his life was falling apart.
But he had a good, close, loving family. He had a safe place to stay, a roof over his head, he didn't have to worry about money or security or where he was going to get his next meal. He had his health, mostly. And Christine was right, he had survived. He'd been cursed, he'd been injured, but he was alive. And so was Riley, and Roland, and Christine, and Sam.... There were many other people who had lost so much more than he had. And he was being an idiot, feeling sorry for himself.
"You know what?" he said. "Let's go do something fun. We could play a round of pool, if you want. Or ping pong. What do you say?"

Christine was tired, she felt older than she was and not in a "know it all" attitude kind of way. For all her maturity and intelligence she was still rather young and immature when it came to real life struggles.
It seemed the desire for adventure had shifted into a desire for peace, and that was an ever elusive flame. She didn't know whether to fall apart or rebel even more, she was sure when the time came to do either she wouldn't have a choice.
"You know what I'd really like?" she said as an idea came to her. The decay happening in her heart had been like a heavy weight, talking to her brother and helping him seemed to lift it a bit, she felt like doing more. "We haven't done it in a while...with everything that's been happening...but maybe we could visit the shelter and see the old gang."
Though many of the upperclass and wealthy were content to make donations to local charities and sponsors the Montgomeries were taught that no one was above getting their hands dirty or filling a few soup bowls. Ever since she was little she could remember going to the Montgomery Sanctuary, which was a shelter her family owned that offered a place for anyone in need. There was an orphanage there where Christine had actually grown up with a few of the kids. They had stayed on at the orphanage after reaching an age of leaving to help out the others. Those who moved on reportedly got a glowing reccomendation from the Montgomeries provided they had done well in school that almost guarenteed placement anywhere in any profession. It had been a while since Christine last saw her old friends and thought that now would have been a perfect time...if she was going to venture out of the house...it would be easiest to go to another place that felt like home.

Geoffrey had to admit, it was a good idea. The trouble was, he still didn't really want to leave the house. He had gone out with the guys and wound up getting drunk and cheating on Alison. So leaving just seemed like a terrifying prospect. Sure, there wasn't much of a chance he would do something else he would regret if he went to the shelter with Christine... but there was no telling what could happen.
"Yeah... maybe we could do that," Geoffrey said. "Did... did you want to do it now?"
Maybe tomorrow it would be easier. Maybe he just needed a little more time to prepare himself.

No, Christine thought silently to herself. She too wasn't really sure about leaving the house since everything had happened but the truth was she really needed to get out.
"Why not?" Christine asked then took a deep breath unsure if the words came from her own mouth, "Yeah...I mean unless you don't want to." she said biting the inside of her lip.
