It was a Hogsmeade weekend, and Elliot had chosen to go with Ingrid. Although he had invited her along, the last thing Savannah wanted was to be a third wheel. Besides, she was doing what she wanted now, right? She didn't need an escort. So she went to Hogsmeade alone.
However, the stores and shops held no real interest for her. Instead, she found herself wandering over to the cemetary, where her parents were buried.
It didn't take her long to find the two graves, which were in a corner near the heavy wrought iron fence. Both graves were fairly unkempt, since no one had visited in quite some time. Ignoring her father's grave, she quickly went to work straightening her mother's grave, pulling weeds and using a trimming spell to shorten the grass.
"Hi, mum," she said softly. "I'm sorry I haven't come by in a while. I miss you.... I wish you were here to help me figure some things out. Remember? We used to have some really good talks when Dad and the boys weren't around. You used to tell me about your dreams and all the things you wanted to do. And you'd make up stories about what I'd be like when I got older. I wish I could have been more like that..."
She sighed. "Elliot doesn't want me to be like you. And... and I know that maybe I shouldn't be, because I know how unhappy you were. And maybe if you'd been stronger, Father wouldn't have hurt you the way he did. It wasn't your fault, it's just... I don't know. I don't know how I'm supposed to be anymore. I don't know who I really am... I've been trying so hard to be like you for so long. Did you know... I started playing piano again. I'll never be as good as you..."
She sat down in the grass, still holding a handful of weeds. "Will you be very disappointed in me if I don't want to be like you anymore?"
Of course there was no answer, and she just stared blankly at the grave, wishing something would happen, that she would suddenly know what to do.
