"You be careful, too," he said.
They moved towards the three death eaters, all of whom were dressed in black cloaks with masks over their faces. This was good, because if Riley were to see their faces, then she would become a target if they didn't finish off all three of them tonight. She knew Blake, and he knew that, but with the mask on, there would be no way of knowing for certain that he was one of them.
"So good of you to come," he said sarcastically.

Blake had apparated in first, long enough to see his nephew locked in a passionate kiss with his partner. He couldn't help the sickening smile that appeared on his face. How sweet it was, really. He should almost feel guilty for possibly breaking up the two lovers before they had a chance to really enjoy their time together. But he didn't. Actually, he was rather amused. The whole thig was just too nauseating.
"Just partners, eh?" he said as they approached. "Purely professional? Nothing professional about that kiss. Really, you two are just too adorable. You give me cavities."

Riley was quiet, her eyes on Blake... she knew he was Blake because she recognized the voice and the conversation. But she said nothing. She was waiting for Roland's cue to do something. She was going to let him lead this one.
A light wind picked up, pushing the chilly air past Roland and Riley in an ominus, forboding way, and Riley hid the chills it gave her.

Roland shook his head. "Do you ever stop talking?" he said. "I mean, really, can we dispense with the conversation and just get on with it? One way or another, one of us is not walking out of here tonight."
As he said those words, he felt a chill run down his spine. There was every possibility that he would be the one who wouldn't survive this fight. No matter how careful he was, ultimately, there was no way to control what was going to happen.

Lyle was standing just a few steps behind Roland. He didn't quite see why they came. Honestly, at least one of them should have stayed behind, just in case.
But here they were. At Roland's remark, Lyle shrugged. "Sure, we can get right to the part where we kill you. Or maybe we'll kill her first and make you watch. You're call."

Roland turned a glare on the death eater, but quickly turned back to his uncle. He was prepared to tell Riley to leave, if it came to that, but he really wasn't sure he'd make it if he had to fight all three at once.
"Remember what I said in the letter I sent you," he said. "This is a fair fight. A duel. Right? You play by the rules, or we're leaving. No hiding behind children, no tricks, none of that. Just you against me. Got it?"

Blake narrowed his eyes at Roland for a long moment, then nodded. "OK. A deal's a deal. You asked for a fair fight, and we'll give you one. I fight you, the girl fights the other two. It's just a shame we'll have to kill you both. You really are a lovely couple. And I was so enjoying our little game. We were thinking about going after your cute little sister at the dance tonight... lucky for you, I found this idea so much more amusing."

Riley put her hand on Roland's arm. She knew the comment about Ama would rile him up, but it would do no good to blow off the handle now.
Two against one wasn't exactly a fair deal, but it got Roland alone with Blake, so she would do it, but she let Roland give the okay.

Roland twitched when Blake mentioned Amandine, but he kept his cool. Barely. The important thing was, they were here, and not with Ama. She was currently in a room filled with people; students and professors and chaperones and aurors on patrol. She was safe.
He shot a look at Riley, silently praying to whatever deity might happen to be listening that she would be OK. He didn't like the idea of her fighting the other two alone. "Good luck," he whispered.
Turning back to Blake, he said. "Let's do this."

"You too," Riley whispered, hoping he would stay close by. She knew... She knew he wouldn't, but right now, she couldn't focus on that. She had two cocky death eaters in front of her that she needed to focus on.
She held her wand steady, forcing herself to trust that Roland knew what he was doing, that he would be okay.
"All right, boys, come and get it."

Alec was annoyed. "Wait a second. You want us to sit here and fight the girl while you fight him? And what are we supposed to do when we've killed her? Are we just supposed to sit around and wait for you? This is stupid. First you send me off to attack a woman with a baby and don't tell me that you're planning to send him to rescue her, and now this? I'm getting tired of you changing the rules on me, Blake."

Blake gave Alec a whack on the back of the head. "Are you an idiot? Stop talking! No names, no details of what we did. What if they've got backup around here? Or the girl decides to apparate. Just fight, and we'll see what happens if you actually succeed in killing her."
The tone in his voice made it plain that he sincerely doubted Alec's ability to kill anyone. "If you're afraid of fighting a girl, I can just kill you now and save everyone the trouble."
Turning back to Roland, he said. "Tell you what? Let's make this sporting. I'll give you a head start... just start running, and I'll come after you. How does that sound?"

"Hey," Riley said, calling out to the guy who was complaining.
"You should be happy he's giving you such an easy task. Why are you complaining?"
She had so much nervous energy that the end of her wand sparked as she said this.

Damn it. Roland wished that the one death eater hadn't mentioned killing Riley. Now all he wanted to do was protect her. The thought that she might be in danger was going to prey upon him and make it impossible to concentrate.
Although Roland was very mature and independent for his age, the truth was, he was 22 years old. What 22 year old believes that he could possibly die? He thought he had a certain level of invincibility, being young and brave and fighting for what was right. That carried over to Riley. And it never occurred to him until that moment how unfair it was to ask her to fight two guys while he fought only one. He should have listened to her and brought in back up. Hayden, maybe, or even Tonks, now that they were friends. Sort of. Anyone but Prewett.
But of course, it was too late for that now. But maybe it wasn't too late to get Riley out of this.
"Look, you don't have to kill her. I'm the only one you want."

Lyle watched in a contemplative silence. Alec, as could be expected, was already scewing things up, but there was one very important aspect of all of this that Blake didn't see yet... dissention was rising among their small ranks, and while Alec was loud about it... Lyle was sitting back and letting it happen.
"Get over it, Ferrera," He said at length, noticing the protective spark in the Auror's eyes. Without much of a warning, he sent a curse towards the girl. One that wouldn't do much more than knock the air from her lungs, but he was anxious to get this started and over with.

Roland let out a whispered swear as the death eater aimed a curse at Riley. He was still standing right next to her, so he quickly pushed her out of the way.
"Riley, forget this. I want you to go. I'll handle this on my own."
Even as he said it, Roland knew Riley wouldn't leave. She'd insist on staying here and fighting. But he had to try.

Riley didn't even pay attention to Roland as he tried to get her to leave. She was angry.
The Death Eater's curse missed both of them, thankfully, and as soon as she was solid on her feet, she fired one back at him, and then quickly at the third Death Eater... the one that complained a lot.
"Go, Roland," she said, not looking back as she began to move away from him. He would need to see that she could handle herself before he'd turn his attention on Blake, and that's why they were here.

Blake smirked. "You heard the lady. Let's leave them to it, shall we? Why don't we just give them a little space?"
He laughed to himself as he apparated to a spot close to the warehouse, several hundred feet away. Then, just for good measure, he fired a couple of lazy curses in Roland's direction. He was also anxious to get things going, and all the talking was getting tedious. Roland was just too heroic and noble for his own good.

Roland cast one last desperate look at Riley. Please be OK, he thought to himself. But she was a capable fighter. He should let her get to it. The sooner he was able to finish off his uncle, the sooner they would be able to get out of there.
He quickly apparated over to where Blake was, firing a couple of curses at him.

Once Roland and Blake were out of the way, Alec smiled underneath the hood. The Neves girl was really quite attractive. And Alec had been quite frustrated since Tanya's untimely death. He'd hoped to have a taste of the lovely Lina, but he'd been denied her as well. Maybe he and Lyle could have a bit of fun with this one.
He reached out and put a hand on Riley, rubbing his hand creepily up and down her arm. "You know, maybe we don't have to fight. What is it those stupid muggle hippies say? Make love, not war?"
