"Hals, I'll be fine, honestly. Thane will probably be just a few more minutes. Knowing him, he probably misplaced his shoes and he's looking for them." Regina gave Hallie a kind smile. She could tell that her friend was nervous about leaving, but Hallie had to gain courage somehow. Going off with Kyle on her own would help slowly build that. After all, they were friends too.
"Like I said, if he doesn't come down in a few minutes, I'll go up there and see if I can help him find whatever it is. You'll be fine. I'll end up meeting you down there in a few minutes anyway."

Hallie nodded, but her knees were shaking. She was so nervous! But Kyle was her friend, too, and it was nice of him to take her to the ball. She was sure, if not for him, she wouldn't be going at all. Even if a part of her still sort of thought he probably could have done better.
"Um... OK, then," she said, looking at Kyle. "I... I guess we should go, then..."

Kyle was pretty nervous himself, but he tried his best to hide it. He gave a smile to Regina, then looked to Hallie before extending his arm out for her to take. They were going just as friends, but that didn't make him any less nervous than he was.
"I promise that you'll have a good time," he said attempting to calm her nerves as well as his own. He smiled at her as he led her out of the portrait and started toward the Great Hall.

Hallie had already bit her lip so many times that when she bit down this time, she no longer tasted cherry lip gloss, she tasted the metallic tang of blood. She shot a helpless look at Regina. "Did you leave that lip gloss upstairs? I think I messed mine up."
Although she didn't really think Kyle would want to kiss her, there certainly would be no chance of it if her lips were bleeding. Unless Kyle was a vampire, but that seemed unlikely.
