She grinned at him. He was cute when he acted tough. She knew him well enough to not actually make a scene in the middle of the ball if his brother said anything to her. And she was ok with him being that way. She leaned in and kissed his cheek lightly.
"Alright. Just us tonight, right?" She said and chuckled. "No worries then." Her smile was bright as was her blush that she was beginning to think was permenant.

Axel learned in that moment that he had a very very strong blush reflex. When Vanessa kissed his cheek, his face turned the color of her dress, and though it quickly faded, Axel could still feel it. "Ye...yea, just us," he grinned. "Nothing to fear." he added.

Vanessa looked at his bright red face and smiled, feeling a little giddy for being the cause of his blush. "Axel? Are you alright?" She questioned, almost teasingly.

Axel guessed she probably saw his blush. "Yea, I'm fine," Axel said, a brave smile on his face. He had to admit, the thought of running into Noah was scaring him just a little, but he wouldn't tell her that. "I'm just excited, that's all," he grinned.

"He'll come around," Ama assured Dillon. "He's just not used to the fact that I'm not 8 anymore." she sighed. "I'm doing well," Ama said. "I just got home, I saw my whole family for Christmas," she grinned. "It was, interesting to say the least." "Ahh the Ferrera family, one can only imagine," he said with a slight grin on his face. "I'm glad you had fun. I got to go see my brother and we pulled the biggest prank on my dad it ended up with him hanging my a rope from the roof," he said laughing. He looked at Ama who wasn't laughing and straightened his glasses "I uh-I guess you had to be there," he said still suppressing a chuckle.

Zoe let out a heavy sigh and looked over her shoulder at Dean and Jackie. They looked happy together, and she was just going to have to accept that they belonged together. A part of her still longed for Dean, but she had messed that up too badly. And maybe it had never really been meant to be in the first place. Shrugging, she looked back at Gryffin. "What's there to say?" she asked. "I loved him. Maybe I still do, but he doesn't feel the same. He loves Jackie, and they belong together. When I was with him... I had my nose buried too far in the books to give him what he really needed." Gryffin felt slightly awkward at this statement and didn't really know how to go about replying to it. He ran a hand through his hair and looked at his shoes before finally looking up with a half smile. "I'm sorry," he said running another hand through his hair.

Vanessa smiled at him. She was nervous to be there with him and especially nervous of what his brother might say. "I am too." She looked at him curiously, something suddenly hitting her. "Do you dance?" She questioned.

Severus thought it best to be honest; he knew she would know anyway. "I'm a little terrified and you're with me, if you weren't here, I don't think breathing would be so easy." He felt a little of the terror at being in a room full of people ease, knowing Natalie was there made it all the more comfortable. He had thought he would never get over the idea of large amounts of people, or peers, daunting; Natalie made it seem so very possible. The room was very elegant; it made winter seem romantic rather than bleak and possibly dangerous. Glittering and clear the room shown with lights in just the right places to make it seem a palace fit for royalty, rather than a bunch of bratty children and teens that felt they earned the right to a party. “I think this might suit you” he paused as he walked her into the room further looking for a place where they could sit, “but you are more like spring time.” He meant what he said, she had more promise in her than a cold and lovely winter. Natalie's cheeks felt warm, and she cast her eyes down at the floor shyly. It probably would have surprised some people that Severus would be capable of such sweetness, but Natalie wasn't surprised. She knew better than most people. And she couldn't deny that he made her blush more often than anyone else did. "Thank you," she said as they found a seat under a simulated tree coated in sparkling crystals of ice. "I think they must have used a cooling spell in here. It's actually cold."

"You look very handsome." Emmeline gave him a bright smile as she took his hand. He did look dashing. Actually, more than dashing. It was intimidating how mature and handsome he was. She had a sinking feeling that she was going to be fighting girls away instead of him fighting guys away. She was also secretly happy that she didn't wear her heels, because she would've been one or two inches taller than him and that would've been awkward. "Yes, I think I'm ready to bring the party to the ball." She smiled and squeezed his hand slightly. Their hands fit nicely together. Emmeline cleared her throat a little which helped clear her mind. They were only friends, so she couldn't think things like that. Sirius, however, had his mind on other things. He had fixed Remus up with Brynn, so he ws sondering how that was going. He was also thinking about James and Robin, and Peter and Adelaide. He wondered how each couple was doing, and was excited about the idea of the four of them having fun at the ball. But Emmeline did look really pretty tonight, and he knew perfectly well that if he wasn't careful, he would find himself in trouble again. He'd already hurt Kris and Amy, and he would feel horrible if he did that to Emme. No, it was best that they stay friends. As they walked into the ballroo, Sirius paused to look around. So far it looked like a fairly stodgy affair. The music hadn't started yet, since the four champions were supposed to make a grand entrance and have the first dance. But that didn't stop Sirius. "Come on, let's dance," he said, grabbing her hand and whisking her off to the dance floor.

Emmeline looked around the room as they entered it. It was decorated beautifully, but it looked more like a governor's ball than it did a teenager's yule ball. She scanned the room just in case she saw Rori and her date, but it was already getting crowded and she couldn't see her in the dim lighting anywhere.
Emmeline laughed loudly as she was practically dragged by Sirius onto the dance floor. Not that she minded. She was never one to make herself center of attention. The feeling was almost a little foreign to her. But, she was always game to try new things. She laughed again as they finally got to their destination. Thank God she had worn her converse. This was going to be a long, yet quite eventful night.

Severus sat down under the tree and felt a shiver climb up his back. He sat up straighter but noticed the blush that had risen on Natalie's cheeks. He smiled at her; sitting next to her made him forget the chill that recently raced upon his skin. "It's not too bad after a moment." He reached over to take hold of one of Natalie's Hands and felt another shiver that had little to do with a cooling spell raise goosebumps along his lanky arm. He wondered if he should do something romantic, he wasn't looking forward to dancing. He hadn't thought of dancing at a good strategy, he was seriously reconsidering social grace as perhaps a good means of gaining an upper hand on a situation, but then that was more of Malfoy's area of expertise. He thought a moment and realized he didn't have to get an upper hand here, he was with Natalie and that made me feel very good. "So what's next? Or do I just sit here and watch you look pretty?" he asked in a dead pan seriousness which made his statement sound almost like joke.

One thing people didn't know about him was that as a member of the Black family, he was trained in formal dancing so that he wouldn't make a fool of himself in fancy occasions. Although he had hated it, he had learned just enough to be able to joke around and fake the dance in an exaggerated style. As he was spinning her around again, he caught sight of Severus Snape sitting under a nearby tree. He was with Natalie, Sabrina's little sister, who looked perfectly pretty and sweet, like she could have got a real date instead of going with Snivellus. "I don't get it," he said, looking over at them with a frown. "Why does she always hang around that loser? Is it because she feels sorry for him?"

My mom always loved to dance so I begged her to teach me. But I'm a little rusty. I haven't danced since I came to school here. So, we'll fall over together." Vanessa joked with a laugh. She would enjoy attempting to not look like a fool in front of him.

Kris decided at the last moment to go anyway to the Yule ball, even if she didn't have a date. She made sure her hair was perfectly coiffed, her dress robes were a soft shimmering pink that fell in a graceful line under her bust. She stepped into the ballroom and saw Sirius Black, the once love of her life dancing with a Ravenclaw girl. She regretted her choice but decided she would appear even more cowardly if she turned heel and left. Raising her chin and squaring her shoulders, she stepped fully into the room and made her way to a small empty table with a glittering candelabra.

She recognized her as Kris Lupin and immediately felt sick. Please don't let there be any drama tonight. But Emmeline had the worst luck of anyone she knew, so her wishing would just probably backfire. Luckily, Sirius was just as distracted by his hate for Severus, so she quickly shifted her attention. As they slowed their dancing, she got a better look at the couple. They looked genuinely happy. She couldn't imagine what she saw in Severus. He was so rude to Emmeline all the time. But maybe, Natalie saw differently. "Maybe she sees something good in him that no one else sees." Emmeline looked Sirius in the eyes when she said this and quickly looked away.

All dressed up and no where to go. Well, except for the "dressed up" part. Marlene hadn't heard a word from Kingsley about the ball. She wrote to him every day, and had even gone to visit him a couple of times in St. Mungo's, but he hadn't mentioned the ball, and she was afraid to ask. He was still hurt, and he probably wouldn't be released in time. So what was the point in talking about it? She didn't really want to go anyway. Oh, sure, she'd spent a lot of galleons on a beautiful royal blue dress that contrasted with her pale coloring and set off her eyes. But the whole affair was just silly anyway, right?
While the other girls were all getting dressed up for the ball, Marlene was getting into her pajamas. She had her hair up in curlers and was putting a muddy face mask on her face, and tried to tell herself that she was looking forward to a quiet evening of music and books.
No, she wasn't going to let anyone see her cry.

Hestia walked into her dorm with her journal under her arm and mug of hot chocolate in her hand. She was in her shorts and t-shirt, ready to curl up and write some poetry. She had expected to be alone and moping by herself, but no. Alas, Marlene was here too. Hestia watched her silently from the doorway as she set to putting her hair in curlers and putting a mud mask on her face. Hestia walked silently to her bad and set her things down her night stand. "You know Mar," she said, opening Marlene's trunk. "This beautiful gown is doing you no damn good sitting here." She laid the dress on her bed and grabbed the shoes that went with it and laid them on the floor beside it.
"You know how observant I am and I'm going to say this once. Kingsley loves you and if he could be here, I'm sure he would. I bet you he didn't say anything because he didn't want you to be upset if he couldn't go. I don't think he would approve of you moping." Hestia gave her a pointed look, as if daring her to say she's wrong and when it came to her best friends, she was usually never wrong.

Marlene frowned. "I am not moping," she said. "I don't want to go to the ball, anyway. It's stupid and silly, and it's just a way to distract us from all the terrible things going on in the world. And an excuse for all the couples to hang all over each other and make everyone else sick. Why would I want to go to that, anyway? Kingsley is doing me a favor. I'd rather stay in here and read."
And it was all a complete lie. Anyone who looked at her would know it. She wanted to wear that dress and fix up her hair and have everyone look at her and think how pretty she looked. It was vain and shallow and childish and she wanted it desperately.

Hestia snorted and walked to their shared bathroom, returning back to the dorm loaded down with grooming products. She tossed them all in her bed and turned towards Marlene.
"There's two of us, so it shouldn't take to long for you to get ready. And you've already got your hair in curlers, so it will look nice. So, would you like for me to do your hair?" She asked, holding up muggle hair spray in one hand. "Or your make-up?" She held up a nude colored blush in her other hand. "Because, you see, I also love you and I'm not going to let you do this." Hestia smiled a genuine smile, one that only "the group" ever saw.
