Axel tried not to flinch when his father fixed the dirt on his face or put the cleansing charm on him. While Blake was "fixing" his mother, Axel looked at Noah and raised an eyebrow, but again said nothing. They all stood together waiting for the door to open.

Roland nodded. "Thanks, Dad," he said, but frowned slightly at the mention of the study. No, he didn't think he'd be taking Christine in there, not after what happened in there earlier. His fingers lightly brushed Riley's shoulder as he walked away from the table and took Christine's hand. He took her into the spare room, the one that had been his. He didn't bother to close the door all the way. "I've noticed that you haven't been yourself tonight," he said. "Usually, you're the life of the party, but tonight... well, I've been more animated than you, and that's saying something. Is everything OK with you? Is it about the attack?" She hadn't been entirely sure why he requested they speak in private, but when the reason occurred to her she flushed crimson, " It's that apparent?" she whispered then as thoughts of the attack ran through her mind she began to lose color all together. She lifted her chin a notch as pride demanded and gave a regal pose the Montgomeries were famous for although she didn't really know it, " I am perhaps, a little shaken by the ...the attack, but I'll be more myself as time passes."

Roland gave her a soft smile. That regal pose of hers, which was distinctly from her father's side of the family, assured him that she would be all right in time. Still, he hoped that it wouldn't take too long, and he hoped he could say something to her that would give her strength.
"It's been pretty chaotic over here today, and I don't know how many people noticed it. But I'm usually the moodiest one at the party, and not you. Look... I know what happened was pretty scary. Even I was a little shaken up by it. But just try to focus on the good things. Your cousins were hurt, but they're alive. Evveryone is OK. And we're going to keep fighting them. They may have won this time, but sooner or later, we're going to get these guys."

Emelia was still while her husband made her presentable. She liked to think that was one of the reasons he loved her, was that she didn't fuss.
When he was finished, she smiled and cast a glance at her boys before letting Blake knock on the door.
Her stomach tied up in knots when he did, and she didn't realize just how nervous she was about this. What if her family rejected her, or ignored her?

Mathieu heard the knock on the door and immediately knew that the Malfoys had arrived. It was 8:00 exactly, and the sound of the knock--so precise and firm--sounded exactly like Blake. Mathieu frowned. How he hated that man... But he would tolerate his presence if it meant getting to see Emelia again.
"The Malfoys are here," he announced. "I'll get the door."
Rising from the table, he felt oddly nervous as he hurried over to the door. He took a moment to smooth his hair and robes, as if knowing that Blake Malfoy would judge him if he did not look perfectly neat. Then he opened the door.
"Blake," he greeted. "And Emmy!" He moved over to embrace his sister. "Please come in. You must introduce me to the boys."

Blake's lips were pressed into a thin line as Cara's brother threw his arms around Emelia. He wasn't entirely sure, in that moment, that he wasn't making a huge mistake allowing his wife to associate with her family again. If he hadn't had his ulterior motives for bringing them here, he would never have allowed it.
"Mathieu," he said with an oily smile. "So good to see you again. You remember my eldest, Noah? And this is Axel."
He was standing in the foyer now, and could not see the rest of the family. They were all in the dining room, which meant that their dinner had run late. Blake hated lateness. It increased his displeasure.

Christine nodded, she even agreed to what he was saying, she knew that with more agents like her cousin and Riley on the case that they would definitely win in the end, and trouble never seemed to scare her before, she really wished it didn't haunt her now. Smiling at Roland she gave her best attempt at encouraging, " I know."

Roland put his hands on her shoulders. He had no idea if he was helping, but he honestly felt it did no good to tiptoe around the subject with her. She needed to deal with what happened in order to move on.
"I know, with everything that's been happening, it's easy to get freaked out. But I also know that you're strong and stubborn... Honestly, I think those death eaters should be scared of you, not the other way around. Don't let them get to you. You're tougher than that. They want you to be afraid, and if you give in to fear, you're letting them win. I know... I know it's not easy to get past that sort of thing. But I also know that if anyone can, it's you. Just don't be afraid to talk to people about it."

Emelia's face lit up when Mathieu opened the door. It was a strange kind of happiness that no one usually saw. She was happy with Blake, and happy with the boys and her life, but it had been so long since she'd done anything like this, and already it felt overwhelming, but Mathieu's presence calmed her, and unlike the time at the Malfoy place, Emelia actually hugged him back. It was still gentle and tentative, but it was there.
She pulled away, keeping her eyes down and remaining quiet, as Blake introduced their children. She was proud of those two and wanted Mathieu to see why.

Upon hearing the doorbell ring, Judah knew who would be at hte door as well. He let Mathieu go ahead, as he kissed Suri's cheek once he stood up from the table. "I'll be right back," he told her. By the time he reached the door, Mathieu had already greeted Emelia. A smile spread across his face, and it was truly happy, not one that he would just put on. Emelia was looking as beautiful as ever.
"Emelia," Judah said with his smile. "It's wonderful to see you again." He looked to his nephews, with the same smile. He hadn't seen them in ages. "Boys," he greeted. Finally, Judah looked to Blake. He wasn't going to start anything. "Blake," Judah said refraining from just calling him Malfoy, however his smile slipped a little as he greeted the man.

Blake continued to smile brightly, showing off the blinding white of his teeth. "Ah, yes. Judah. It's been an awfully long time. It's *so* good to see you." His tone was too cheery, giving him a very insincere effect.
"Where is the rest of your lovely family?" he asked, looking in the direction of the dining room. "We've been terribly anxious to see all of your children again."

Cara chose that moment to come join them, in time to see Judah hugging Emelia. She looked thinner than Cara remembered, but it been several years.
"Emelia, boys," she said, masking her slight nervousness with a smile, which, to her credit, stayed in place when she greeted Blake. Let him try and judge her home or anything else. She wasn't doing any of this for him.
"I'm so glad you could make it. Please, come in. Mathieu will take your coats. Everyone else is in the dining room."

Mathieu nodded and began to take everyone's coat. "I'll be right back," he said, smiling happily at his sister. He was resolved not focus on how much he disliked his brother in law. Tonight was about reconnecting with Emelia and getting to know his nephews, Noah and Axel. Blake was not important. It was only for one night.
He took the coats to Roland's old bedroom, which was how he still saw it. They had long since redecorated, but Mathieu still thought of it as Roland's room. As he pushed open the door, he saw Roland and Christine talking. Roland was apparently giving Christine a much-needed pep talk.
"Not to rush you two along or anything, but the Malfoys are here now," he reported. "They're anxious to see you, Roland."
He left quickly, eager to get back to Emelia.

Emelia hugged Judah, smiling proudly as he boys were introduced to their uncles and Cara. She was hesitant to take her coat off, but did only after Blake started to take his own off.
It was the next steps she took on her own. Cara encouraged them into the dining room, where everyone else was gathered. She was excited to see them, and this time, didn't want for Blake to let her know that it was okay. She followed Cara.

Blake raised an eyebrow as Emelia walked into the dining room without waiting for him. Already this little excursion was having a negative effect on her, and he was not pleased. He was going to have to work on her to break her of these bad habits all over again.
Still, he moved into the dining room as well, scanning the table dispassionately. He cared nothing for any of these people. He didn't even care to hear their names. What troubled him, however, was the absence of the one person he'd come to see. Roland was not at the table.

Cara, however, felt like everyone should be introduced. They were all family, however. She even reminded them of the children they already met, however long ago. When she came to Lina, she hesitated, meeting the girl's eyes, and finally gave her name, as well was the baby's. She introduced Scarlette as Jamie's friend, and then she hesitated over Riley. She wasn't sure what to call her, so she finally settled on Roland's partner from word.
"And you'll see Roland and Christine again in a moment. Please have a seat," she said. She had conjured four more chairs and the space for them before going to greet the Malfoys. "I was just about to bring dessert out."

Blake glanced at each family member as they were introduced. Most of them he knew about, but there were a few that caught his interest; namely, the ones that were not family--yet. Jamie's girlfriend wasn't much interest to him, but Lina and the baby, whom Blake had heard a bit about, gave him an idea.
But his gaze lingered longest on Riley. Roland's "partner." He'd heard Roland had been assigned a partner. There were rumors floating all around the ministry about their now-lengendary arguments. The fact that she was here tonight... that was interesting.
"It's very nice to meet you all," he said with his insincere smile. He moved over to an empty seat, indicating that Emelia and the boys should sit as well.

As the Malfoys sat down, Cara seemed to let out a breath. "Well, I'll be right back with our dessert," she said, heading towards the kitchen. She glanced at Mathieu as if to ask where Christine and Roland were, and if they were okay.
A moment later, she came back with several plates levitated in front of her. It was impressive how much she made. There would be left overs for weeks. They was a nice selection from different pies to eclairs and cookies, a couple of cakes, and it arranged itself on the table. "Help yourselves."

Mathieu entered the dining room to see everyone settling back down at the table. Now that dessert was served, it seemed the Montgomerys would be staying, after all. He was secretly glad about that; it meant fewer leftovers that he would spend the week picking on.
Settling back down next to his wife, he kissed her on the temple and said in her ear, "Roland and Christine will be out in just a moment."

Just don't be afraid to talk to people about it." She was avoiding the anger. Most people when confronted with a situation that caused them to be afraid they masked it by being angry and gung ho for retribution. Christine had never been afraid before, well she had been afraid that her father might ground her, or not let her sail anymore, or that she might get in trouble, but the trouble she usually found herself in was no competition for her courage. She took on life with terrifying force, grabbing by the horns and wrestling until she won. Now that she had been afraid, not for herself but for the lives she couldn't save, for her cousins that had been hurt, for these monsters who were still out there she was internalizing the fear, probing the alien feeling afraid to vent everything that she did feel because that could be just as explosive as the attack had been. Afraid of what she might have done, afraid of what she almost did, what she hadn't told anyone she had been about to do, what she hadn't told anyone she wanted to learn. One thing was right however, she needed to stop this behavior that was for certain. Had she been a normal girl affected by this she might have thought it unjust of her family to push her into being normal again, but because of who she was she knew that they were right, they wanted her to talk about what happened so she could eventually be that happy peppy person she was used to being, well she wanted to skip that middle step and let them continue to believe whatever they wanted to believe about her. "Yes of course you're Right Roland." she said giving him a sweet smile before Matheiu stepped in and notified them. Ah the Malfoys. "We had better go." she said, not that she was terribly concerned with the Malfoy's opinion. It was odd to her as much as she loved her cousins the Ferrera's were socially a bit inferior and yet they had relations to the Malfoys and her own family, whereas she and her family loved and cared deeply for families large and wide and distant relations and would never think of snubbing or holding their status above anyone she doubted the same was true of the Malfoys and she gave Roland a bit of a knowing look that seemed to wish him luck. She sighed and pulled him into a deep hug thanking him for everything he had said to her.
