"Hey, shhhh," Lina said, hearing the pain and seeing how hard he was struggling to talk. "You don't need to tell me anything. Why don't you just rest? I'll be here."
Much to the rest of the family's dismay, she was sure, but she wasn't leaving until she knew that Cyrus was all right. She wasn't going to be bullied by them anymore... she was simply done with all of it. Cyrus needed her, so she was staying and that was that.

Cyrus shook his head as best he could, he had to ask Lina something and it could not wait. If Cyrus learned anything from ending up here in the hospital wing under Poppy's tender care, it was that life is too short to wait for the good things. "I love you Lina..." Allowing the words to trail off, he grunted slightly with the pain of his movements, closing his eyes once more he found the inner calm within himself and continued on.
"I dont want to live another day, without you by my side.." Turning his head sideways, he attempted to wipe a tear away with his pillow. "Lina Harper, will you..." Another sharp pain seemed to rip through his insides as the potion continued doing it's work. "Marry me.....?"

Cara had been eyeing Lina with disdain since she came in. It didn't take a genius to figure out that someone had told Lina was happened... she had been so focused on Cyrus, though, that she didn't know which of her family to be angry with. She said nothing, though, biting her tongue because Cyrus just seemed to relax a bit with her around.
But when she heard Cyrus propose, she swore her heart stopped, and her eyes were glued to Lina, silently willing her and silently threatening her to leave.

Cara wasn't the only one who swore her heart had stopped beating. For a moment, Lina wasn't even sure that Cyrus really asked it. Maybe she was imagining it. But she wanted to hear that question for so long.
She licked her lips. "You need to rest, Cyrus," she said softly, one hand still holding his and the other now on his chest. "Sleep, okay? And let the potion work."

"NO!" Cyrus sat straight up in his bed and immediately realized how big of a mistake that was when pain seemed to rip through every inch of him. Plummeting back towards his pillows, he took a few deep breaths until the pain subsided slightly. Opening his eyes he looked back towards Lina, forgetting the rest of his family for the moment. "Lina, I could be dead right now.." Visions of the death eater and his curse of purple flames raced through his mind, "Life is too short to let the good stuff pass through your fingertips. Lina, you and Mara are the good stuff and I want you to marry me..."
Pausing for a moment to collect his thoughts, he was surprised his mum hadn't kicked Lina out of the room yet, but that was not going to stop him from what needed to be said. "I can die at any moment Lina, and i'm not gonna let my family or yours, stop us from being happy....together.."

Lina tried to keep him calm and laying down, but even injured he was stronger than her. She listened to what he was saying, and she knew how true it was, but she also knew that this little episode was a selfish thing. Had he not almost died today, nothing would have changed. She didn't want to say yes because he didn't want to have any regrets. It wasn't... as much as she wanted to say yes to him, it wasn't a good way to start a marriage.
"Cyrus, please rest," She whispered. She was trying hard not to tell him no, but she certainly wasn't telling him yes. "You're hurt and you need to heal, so please rest."

Cyrus knew this might happen, he had spoke against them getting married for so long that of course Lina would be hesitant at first. Yet his mind was made up and he had decided that he would rather die right here on this bed than live another day without Lina as his wife.
"Lina, if this is your way of saying no, then just end my pain now. In my line of work, as you can see death is always a possibility. I don't want to live another moment without you as my wife..." Tears slowly crept out of his eyes and down his cheeks, the thought of Lina saying no never occurred to him but from her current manner it seemed to be an all too real possibility.

Lina saw his tears and couldn't really fight her own. She didn't know what to do.
"I don't want to be a regret, and I don't want you to ask me because you thought I might have been. Don't argue... that's exactly what you're doing and why you're asking. So I'm sorry, Cyrus... I'm really sorry, but no. I can't marry you."
She was still holding his hand. She loved him dearly and didn't want to leave, but she might have to at this rate. "I'm sorry, Cyrus. When you feel better, I'll bring Mara by."

Adelaide was simply overwhelmed and didn't know what to do. It was an unusual feeling for a Ravenclaw, and even more so for the child of a Hogwarts professor. She was used to having the answers and at the moment all she had was questions, most of which could never be answered. She let Peter wipe her tears away and was comforted by his gentle touch and soft words. Even more comforting than Peter's sweet touch was the appearance of Madame Pomfrey. "Umm," she looked at Peter first, then back to Pomfrey. "I hit my head here," she touched the spot on the back of her head, which was still sore. "I'm a little dizzy, and things get fuzzy from time to time." And it hurt too, but she didn't want to admit just how fragile she was in front of Peter. He was so brave and she was the complete opposite. He stayed in the midst of danger to protect everyone else, people he didn't even know. And she just wanted to run, and she kept crying. She wanted to be brave like Robin and Lily were. That was the kind of girl Peter deserved, the rest of his group seemed to be able to find those girls. And poor Peter had only found weak little Adelaide. Madam Pomfrey smiled softly. She didn't think the girl was weak at all; rather, she thought everyone who had survived this tragedy was amazingly brave and strong. No child should have to go through something like this. "OK, dear, can you sit up? Or would you rather roll over on your side, so I can have a look at your head? It sounds like you may have a concussion."

Christine for a long moment couldn't tear her eyes away from Sam but through the noise another familiar voice seemed to reach her and she turned hearing Lina Harper. She of course never had anything against Lina, and thought that her and Cyrus were so romantic, perhaps she was naive in her imaginings but she was sure Cyrus was going to ask Lina to marry her someday. They had a rather large obstacle in the way by the name of Cara. Christine loved her aunt dearly, she didn't know why she didn't like Lina but it was something Christine never brought up knowing she'd get frustrated if she did, but Christine was taught that true love was the most important thing, or at least true love had surrounded her through her parents, aunts, and uncles, she was a romantic that she believed love was enough.
She saw from a distance that Lina was leaning over someone and Christine's stomach dropped, "Cyrus..." she whispered stepping forward just in time to hear him propose. The part inside Christine that was purely female wanted to grin but as the conversation went on her heart broke a little for both Cyrus and Lina the shock of the day had been nearly too much. Christine had faced pirates and wild jungles and had come out relatively unscathed, but this attack shook her to her very core. She waited another moment then tentatively stepped forward, "Aunt Cara?" she asked softly she needed someone like she hadn't needed anyone, she was truly afraid and she never had been anything but confident and assured, now the people she loved were hurt...or worse.

Andi laughed again. It felt so good to laugh... she hadn't been entirely sure she remembered how. But it was like the sun coming out after a terrible storm... everything seemed a little brighter, and things that had been impossible now seemed easy. "Eight it is. That's what my report will say," she said. "After all, who's going to challenge me? It was chaos back there... anything could have happened." She pressed a quick, chaste kiss on his lips, wishing it could be more. But they were in a room full of injured students... she had to be discreet. The rest would come later. "If you even think of pushing me away again, I'm just going to hold you tighter. I'm never letting you go again, I swear to you. I love you." Ted smiled and closed his eyes. Those three little words made a world of difference, and he had to stop and make sure he wasn't still dreaming. "I love you, too, Andi," he said softly, opening his eyes again and letting them land on hers. "Merlin... I always forget how beautiful you are and it always takes me by surprise." She wasn't running away again, and Ted didn't know why, but he was thankful and he wasn't going to question it. Instead, he just held her.

"I don't need to lay down," she said quickly. The people in the room who were laying down were the seriously injured, Adelaide did not fir into that category. She leaned forward, steadying herself by placing her hand on Peter. While Pomfrey looked at her head, Adelaide focused on the floor. She had never seen it so dirty, bits of dirt and twigs and muddy footprints all over the usually sparkling clean floor.

"You're a brave girl," Madam Pomfrey told her in her warm voice. "Let's just have a look at that head."
Pushing the girl's hair out of the way slightly, Madam Pomfrey leaned in and examined Adelaide's injury. Her hair was matted down in one area, and on closer examination, Madam Pomfrey could see the sticky residue of partially dried blood.
Using her wand, she cleaned up the blood, restoring Adelaide's hair to its shiny appearance. Then she performed a quick scan to make sure the head injury wasn't something a little deeper. After a moment, she pulled back and smiled softly. "It does look like you have a small concussion," she said. "I'd like you to rest, but don't sleep for a bit, OK? You can do it here or in your dorm room, or in your parents' room, but I don't want you to be alone."

Seth nodded, "Thank you, Madame Pomfrey," Seth said quietly, taking a seat beside Maxi and taking her hand. "You hear that Max?" Seth said using his free hand and brushing her blond hair off her face. "Madame Pomfrey said you're going to be fine, you just have to wake up, baby..." he whispered. She heard Seth talking to her, asking her to wake up, and Maxi tried. But she was so tired and felt so weak she couldn't collect the strength to even open her eyelids. She wanted him to know she could hear him though. She felt Seth's hand in hers and she squeezed it lightly.

But suddenly, even those things didn't seem to matter anymore. There would be time later to say them. She could just pour her heart out to him and make him understand why she had done what she had done and why it didn't matter anymore. But right now, she just wanted to be close to him... to hear his voice, to feel the rise and fall of his chest as he breathed. "I was a fool... we both were," she said simply. "I don't know why I thought I could ever live without you."

Mathieu had made his way through the secret passageway, still partially carrying Jamie, despite the levitation charm. Behind him were Scarlette and Bek. Now he burst into the hospital wing and carried Jamie over to the nearest bed.
"Madam Pomfrey!" he called. "Another patient... he was hit with the Cruciatus curse and passed out."
He waved Cara over, knowing she was going to freak out when she saw that he had found an injured Jamie, and no sign of Suri or Roland.

Ama and Liam hadn't really made it over to Cyrus' bedside yet when her father came in carrying Jamie. He was unconscious and looked as if he was in a lot of pain. Ama heard her father call for madame Pomfrey and Ama's knees buckled, she fell into Liam. "Jamie..." she gasped quietly.

Christine turned startled when her uncle came through the door carrying yet again another cousin and her heart nearly stopped beating, it was too much it was all too much at this point, first Sam, then Cyrus, now Jaime, she couldn't handle it. For the first time in a long time she was truly afraid, surrounded by death and pain of the people she loved and something snapped. She was so helpless.

And suddenly, Lina didn't even exist anymore. She saw who her husband was carrying, and, like her niece, something snapped.
She was at their side instantly, paying no attention to the two girls, and barely any to her husband. She couldn't take it... Cyrus had been bad enough, but Jamie... Jamie was just a student with no purpose to be in this mess, and why wasn't he awake?
She reached out and held on to her husband, fearing that her legs wouldn't support her otherwise. Nothing was supposed to happen to your children. She was supposed to protect them.
"Mathieu..." She whispered.

Liam was instinctively reaching for Ama before she fell back into him. He wished they were still in the owlry, or anywhere but here, because she shouldn't be seeing this.
He held on to her, telling her that it was going to be okay, that everything would be fine. He didn't think she heard him, and he couldn't blame her. But he was holding her back, just until Cara calmed down, because the poor girl shouldn't see that either.
