"And if your father expressly forbid it? If he would disown you and you would shunned by your entire family. You'd still give all that up for someone?" he asked testing her a little bit to see for her reactions.
(Sorry it's short)

Again Allaire slienced, trying to reason with herself. "Yes," she said with confidence. "I mean if he is truly a wonderful father, he would want me to be happy. If he disowned me, then I would know that he wasn't as great as he was. It shouldn't matter who you really go out with. I mean, after all you should be able to chose who you want to be with. You can't help who you fall for. If your family can't be happy for you, then there's something wrong with them."
She sighed, but her answer truthful. "As I said eariler, I would rather be in a relationship where I actually love the person and they love me in return, rather than a relationship that I'm stuck in because of my name."

"Well then how about friends?" he asked changing the subject with a grin, " If your family disapproved of you having a friend who was somewhat less than pureblooded...would you stand strong and be that person's friend?"
He was partially pureblooded, and he had a good liniage but that wasn't good enough for some families.

"Friends are important. They are what you need to get through life to help you, and you help them. I don't think you could make it through without friends. So, my answer to that would be yes. If they are a true friend and have proven themselves to be that, then I would want them by my side all the time. You have to have them there when your family is not because going through school alone could be tough." Allaire took a breath before continuing. "But, like I said I would fight for them, even if they wouldn't do the same for me. I need friends who like me for me, rather than being my friend because of my name, and those are the friends I will stand strong for."

He smiled at her answer then. Perhaps it was a bit naive and perhaps he thought her to be that as well, but she was charming in her naivete and he wanted to get to know her a bit more. He held his hand out to her, "Well then my name is Ashton Lane, miss Burke, and if it's all the same I would like to be your friend."

Allaire smiled as well and shook his hand. "It's Allaire. I deal enough with the Miss Burke stuff as it is." Sure, she knew that he knew that she was Burke as she entered the room, but he was nice. He was one Slytherin boy that she would consider being friends with. "It's nice to meet you Ashton, and being friends would be nice."

He wasn't well known, which was probably why she would have agreed to be "friends with him". Devin liked to publicize his affairs and everyone knew if you were "ruined" by one of his housemates, but what others didn't know was that Ashton was just as involved in the scene, he was just incredibly discreet, and the girls as well wanted to keep their reputations spotless it worked out this way fairly well. Mostly because anytime he wanted a new conquest, the conquest didn't know what was coming
"A pleasure Allaire." he purred with a devilish smile. Then he nodded to her book and gestured for it asking if he could see it.

Ashton didn't seem like he was like most Slytherin boys, but then again, Allaire would be sure to watch out for that anyway. She was just looking for a friend, and hopefully she found a decent one. She was just going to keep an open mind. That would be the best way to go at it.
She handed him her book as he motioned for it.

He pointed to a spot in the book and asked her, "Here?" he inquired as to where she left off, when he found where she was at he began reading to her aloud. He knew the story, he knew the words he could close his eyes and recite the words to her, but he didn't want to share that tidbit with her yet and instead let his melodic voice do his wooing for him.
He really did have a good voice, if it wasn't so highly impractical a career choice for him he could have gone into reading books for tape for the blind. He even made Shakespeare, as hard as it was to read, sound perfectly wonderful both for the romantic language it was, but also because with the proper inflection on the right words Shakespeare's meaning came out clearer than if it had been simply read or someone had been reading it to someone else who didn't know the story quite as well as Ashton did.

Allaire didn't know what he was doing when he requested for her book. She eyed him for a moment as he opened the book to the spot where she had stopped. Leaning over slightly, Allaire have him a nod to answer his question.
As he started to read, she folded her legs under her as she became comfortable on the couch. Ashton was a wonderful reader. The words seemed to be lifted from the page. She couldn't help but observe him as he read aloud to her. She wasn't sure what sparked him to want to read aloud, but he did keep her attention. Allaire had to give him credit for that.
Throughout his reading, Allaire listened intently. A smile appeared on her face whenever he stopped. "That was fairly impressive Mr. Lane."

He didn't know why he had done what he did either, in fact he hadn't read aloud like that to anyone since Meagan and it was strange to him but he didn't let the oddness linger as he shrugged and handed her back her book, " I was feeling Shakespearean." he nodded to her, " Thank you for allowing me the pleasure."

A smile was still evident on her face. "No problem at all. I'm thinking about possibly reading Hamlet next, or The Illaid. Think you would be up for reading those sometime," Allaire asked. The older literature was her favorite. Anything from Homer, to Shakespeare, to Jane Austin. "I think I may have a copy of Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austin somewhere in my room. Great book if you're interested."
Finally some one else that knew a bit about literature. "It's nice to see a guy that doesn't mind reading, other than the Ravenclaws of course."

"Well Mr. Darcy has his moments I suppose." he said in even more of a british accent then he already harbored but he was smiling, " Literature holds a precious key it is in literature that the world becomes imaginary and we are anything and anybody we wish to be, daring for the timid, beautiful for the plain, and free...for the captured..." he spoke the last and looked intently at her, some might view her position as being captured, held in a gilded cage of societal rules and pompous expectations.

Allaire loved the character of Mr. Darcy. He was one of her favorite fictional characters. "I think that's why I love literature. You can escape everything and be free in whatever imaginary world that you chose to be in." She liked the idea of stepping into Juliet's shoes for a moment, or even Elizabeth Bennet's. She could leave what was going on around her and be someone else. "Elizabeth Bennett from Pride and Prejudice is probably my heroin, and one of my favorite characters. She's able to break free of what her mother wants for her and chooses her own path. She's free spirted and strong willed. She's a great character to look up to, well, at least in my opinion."

Yes books were good for escapes that was for certain, and he didn't mind escaping now and then either. It wasn't that he didn't enjoy his life, he did, but sometimes the monotony of debauchery was tiring. He supposed that was a part of the reason Devin went after innocents, then he chuckled to himself inwardly, no Devin probably went after them to introduce debauchery, but perhaps it was the reason Ashton found Allaire refreshing, and innocent girls like her.
"Austen's good, she's the classic romance novelist." most girls liked the author he well knew and though some would call her stories trite or old they were appreciable by literary merit to him if nothing else.
"So you *are* a romantic at heart then hmm?"

Allaire gave a shrug. "I guess I am, but I know everything in books can't come true, although the ideas are wonderful to dream of." She guessed that she would be the dreamer of the family. She had always dreamed of finding someone that liked her for being her instead of being a Burke. She had always dreamed about possible late night meetings or taking a moment and hiding away from the world in a corner, or snuggling up on a couch. Although, Allaire had yet to find someone, and she was not that bothered by it yet. Maybe she wasn't really supposed to find someone. Maybe she was supposed to just let her father pick for her, but what guy would like to see his wife reading somewhere and not working around the house. Sure, Allaire would do what needed to be done, but she wanted something deeper than just marrying because her father wanted the pureblood line to continue.
"It would be nice to find a guy similar to Mr. Darcy, or even Romeo, but I can't have my standards too high, in which I don't because guys like Mr. Darcy and Romeo are only in books."

(Ooc and in rps *sigh*)
"Only in books ? Well I suppose, then again a man can learn if he reads one would guess no?" he asked. Romance was fine and good but it hardly made up for the realities. You never heard about investments and financial difficulties in a romance novel. Or the struggle to maintain a good life, you heard about love overcoming all odds, but you didn't see what happened after the passion of love and that was most often times than not, divorce or worse a strangled marriage with affairs a plenty.

"I suppose you're right, but then again there's not many guys that are going to read a book just to figure out how he should be. How many guys have you ever heard say something about reading Romeo and Juliet to be more like Romeo?" Allaire gave him a questioning look. She knew that a guy wasn't going to study a book in attempt to woo a girl over. Although, it would be interesting to see a guy try however.

He shrugged. Not that he did, but he was quite advised should he ever want to woo a woman over the best way to learn was to read romance novels. For whatever silly notion they could get into their heads girls fell for those guys, and he supposed he knew why.
Men could be...rather unrefined, and women were creatures of softness, in general terms anyway. Not that a woman wanted a man to be soft, but, well he supposed it was rather complex.
" No, but you women are confusing anyway."

"We're confusing," she inquired with a half amused, half questioning look. "You men are confusing just as well, if not more!" Allaire knew that men were confusing. Most of them seemed to find it hard to just tell a girl his feelings. Although, some guys didn't even bother worrying about it, because they could go just go through girl after girl. Allaire never wanted to be one of those girls that slept with a guy, only to have him only want that, and then just dump her. That would be horrible.
"I don't see why men and women can't just say what they mean. They always have to make things complicated, but I guess that is what makes things better."
