Allaire decended the stairs from the girls' dorms to the common room. It was rather empty and the only sound that could be heard was the crackling of the fire. Allaire smiled. The common room as just as she liked it.
She pulled out one of the wizarding magazines she had picked up from home and opened it. There wasn't anything else that she was supposed to be doing. Of course, after she skimmed through her current magazine, she might open up a book that looked interesting in the store.

Ashton himself was one for the shadows and solitude he seldom branched out of his own small...very small... social group, but occasionally the opportunity presented itself to be a little cordial.
He was already in the common room when she came down the stairs his relaxed pose as he stretched in one of the corner chairs and leaned his arm up to hold his cheek while he read. His eyes caught first her movement then strayed to the gold as it was highlighted in her hair. He smiled a bit as she walked down.
He caught her descending and watched for a bit

"She's a little young don't you think?" Natasha asked sitting across from him. Her tone was amused as she flipped through the pages of her own magazine and caught Ashton looking upwards. As if she was always in tune with where one of her boys were looking. Not that Ashton was one of her boys, hardly. They had a different relationship that worked out very well between them.
Natasha shrugged, "Then again Devin's stooped younger...though not much better. She's a Burke in case you didn't know." she teased in a semi-malicious manner.
The Burkes were a pureblooded old money sort, Ashton wasn't.

Oblivous to the others in the common room, Allaire continued to flip through her magazine. There were a few outfits that were extremely cute, but she would see if her mother would get her a few items from different outfits so she could mix and match. She didn't like to dress like the models in the magazines, she would rather had her own touch to it, which is why she mixed and matched.
Reading the daily horoscopes, she closed her magazine and looked to the book cover of the book that she bought. Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare. Yes, it was a play, but it seemed like it would be a good love story, and Allaire loved stories like that. Although, from what she heard, this story didn't have a great ending, but she wanted to read it anyway.
Crossing her legs gracefully, Allaire opened the play and started to read.

He sneered good naturedly towards her before standing up, "Therein lieth the fun." he said with a small salute. He wasn't going to get up and approach her before, no he just liked the way the gold played in her hair, but then Natasha had to provoke him, well Natasha always knew how to push buttons.
He approached the girl though her nose was in a book as he glanced down to see the cover he almost smiled,
"Two households, both alike in dignity, In fair Verona, where we lay our scene, From ancient grudge break to new mutiny, Where civil blood makes civil hands unclean. From forth the fatal loins of these two foes A pair of star-cross'd lovers take their life; Whole misadventured piteous overthrows Do with their death bury their parents' strife."
He tilted his head towards her, " And what is thy lady doing in Fair Verona?" he inquired taking a seat that was a bit closer to hers.

Allaire was hooked on the story once she started reading it. She was going to attempt to read it all at once rather than take breaks. She had a feeling that it could hold her interest for that long. After finishing the prologue, she started reading the first scene.
Her attention was suddenly diverted. Glancing over to side, she studied the boy for a moment had raised one of her eyebrows. Allaire didn't ever really blush when a boy talked to her, and this time was no exception either. "Happily reading a story that a lot of girls probably dream about," she said answering his question.

"Love at first sight? Or a tragic end?" he inquired softly his eyes raking over her face which was more beautiful up close. He had read Romeo and Juliet, he had read all of Shakespeare and luck be a photographic memory he could pull up different verses from it and other plays.

"Love at first sight," she said. "Even though it has a tragic end, it's a great love story from beginning to end. Or at least that is what I have been told of this play. What girl wouldn't want a guy that was willing to give up everything for her so that they could be together?" Allaire looked at him intently for a moment. She hadn't seen him around before, but she didn't comment.

"Abandon all for love is that it?" he asked with a smile, he shrugged more with his facial expression than his shoulders but nodded, "Must have been a hell of a girl." he said seriously.
He decided to forgo the fact that Romeo and Juliet was a story of overly hormonal teenagers who committed suicide because they thought they were in love.

"I think that it's probably better to be loved once than not at all," said Allaire. "And Juliet thought that Romeo was the only guy for her, hence why she didn't do her parent's wishes. Because she didn't want to lose the chance of letting her and Romeo's love grow. Then, Romeo decided that if his love should die, then so should he, because he didn't think he could go on without her. After all, from what I've heard, love makes people do crazy things." She gave a shrug of her own with her shoulders.

It was that exact sort of romantic drivel that kept Ashton in business for most of the year. Love. Oh how it destroyed, and then the exaggerated need to feel anything but the pain, people would do anything for and pay anything for something with a stronger taste. Ashton provided that taste.
He was measuring her in his own right wondering if she would come to him one day asking for something to dull the pain, she was certainly on the right track for it if she was searching for love.
"But who's to say she wouldn'tve found love later? Who's to say that their love would have lasted? I suppose it's more romantic to think their love is immortal through death, but it's hardly a logical assumption to believe that two teenagers find love at first sight and are willing to forsake all else for that love, it's that unbalanced emotional response that would have drowned the couple should they have lived rather than died."

"True, however you have to keep an open mind and not shun the thought that they could last forever. Maybe Juliet had met men before, in which I'm sure she would have, and none caught her interest until Romeo. Maybe it was the thrill of knowing that she was doing something against her parent's will, but they did love each other. And certainly, there probably would have been something that could have broken them apart, but the way Shakespeare prevails love in this story, they would have more than likely got through it. One can never keep a closed mind when it comes to love, even if you want to use logic to figure it out. Sometimes things are better if you don't try and put logic to it, and just accept things for the way they are."

"But there you have said it yourself, love doesn't prevail in this story...the lovers die. It's romantic because it's a story, their love is left open to interpretation was it really a love to last throughout the ages and stand every test and trial, or was it the act of two irresponsible spoiled children who found excitement in tasting something forbidden and gave their lives to that passion which...mind you is not a bad way to go out at least they were living for something, and dying for something, their death did bring about peace between their family, but was it a death from lust and passion, or from true love? It's something we can never know."

"Exactly. We can only speculate, but in my opinion it was out of true love. Juliet could have looked down upon Romeo and not have gone the extra step, but she did. I think she knew what she was giving up, but didn't care because she had a new life ahead of her. The same thing with Romeo. He knew what he was giving up, and the trouble he could be in, but he did it anyway. They found a way to live, and they held on to it as long as they could. They were going to sneak off together, but of course that failed, however they did die together. The two finally found peace and happiness."
Allaire sighed. "But of course, probably nothing this drastic would ever happen in real life, but it's nice to dream."

The fact that it was a story was the only thing that gave it a semblance of romance, were it true life it would be a wasteful tragedy which he wasn't sure if it still wasn't one. True love? Or bored teenagers? How many times had Romeo been in love before? He shook his head.
"Who knows...real life has its surprises." he smiled now moving past the fictional love's merit, " But not for you?" he asked wondering what kind of girl she was.

"Hm. I would like to think it was for me, but I don't know. My family is the kind to continue on arranging marriages. I'm not sure my exact opinion on that is. Sure, don't get me wrong, I don't really doubt my father's choosing abilities, but a lot of people are like two people. Around one group, they're one way and when they are around another, they're different. I haven't quite figured that out yet, and quite honestly, it's stupid. If you can't be yourself all the time, and have people like you, then that's their problem, not yours. I don't want someone that is completely one way around my father and have him fooled, and then as soon as the marriage is complete, he's completely the opposite."
Allaire shook her head. "I thought that maybe if I could, I would find someone on my own, you know, like an ordinary family does, but I haven't had any luck, so I'm just floating along I guess and just seeing what happens."

"You have time I believe...it's not as if you're on the shelf quite yet." he teased her, she was young...fifteen or sixteen at the most perhaps it was time to plan marriage but at the same time she had a few years before her father would marry her off...or maybe she didn't. Ashton didn't know, it wasn't as if he was approached by any proud papas wanting to offer their daughters his way.

Allaire shook her head with a half amused look on her face. "Being a Burke is hard. We're supposed to be upstanding people who are supposed to set an example. My father would love to see all his little girls married off to someone pureblood and rich, as long as he approves. Quite honestly, I don't really care if the guy is rich. I would rather have someone who cares and who likes me for who I am, not just because of a name. But then again, we can't be too picky, can we?"
She looked down to her book a moment before looking up at the boy again. "If my father found a decent guy he thought would be perfect for me at this very moment, I would be on the shelf. I could be there at any given time, and I don't really know how much I like that."

"And if you were to find that perfect someone?" he asked, " Would you marry them without your father's consent?" he asked, despite her answer he doubted it. It was one thing to read about in books and another to have the real courage it took to do something like that.

She could see the doubt on his face. "Without my father's consent?" Allaire thought about it for a moment. "I would. Of course, I would introduce him to my father first. My father might end up shocking me and might say yes, but if he were to say no I would still go on with it. After all, I'm not a puppet, although I suppose I've always been like one by doing all of my father's wishes and keeping up with the family name. But, if I truly cared about someone and they felt the same, I would. If I was completely happy, then yes. I would rather be happy and have my father mad at me, than be stuck some where I was not happy."
