"No," Suzie said, angry as she sat up a little straighter. "No, that's not fine. I don't know who the hell you think you are, but right now, this child is mine. So far, *none* of you have a claim to it. So I will stay where I want, and it won't be here, with you, or with your brother." She was speaking directly to Tanya. "I came looking for Zachary... I didn't have to do that, so I obviously am not going to run away now that I'm here. Past that, you can stay the hell out of it until we get some results back."

Tanya didn't budge, nor did she even blink. Suzette was asking for it in her eyes and Tanya was more than willing to make the woman pay. "Danny, may I see you outside for a moment when you are done here?" She turned her attention to the healer who was obviously done already other than to admit the girl if she decided to stay.
She looked back at Suzette, and smiled before walking out of the room.

Zach didn't like the looks of that smile. He'd seen it before, whenever Tanya had some dark plot in her head. He let out a breath and rubbed his face in his hands. "Sometimes I really hate my family!" he blurted out, not even thinking that Justin was still in the room. "Well... Thatcher and Tanya, anyway. They always wondered why I was never around... it was because of them. They expect things their way and won't take no for an answer in anything."
In that way, his brother and sister, and their parents before that, were a lot like Taylor, as well as Susie's father. But she was a female, and was unable to run away, like he had always done. Until now. And all she'd wound up doing was going from one prison to another. He wished he knew how to get away from them. Unfortunately, the inner wards of the hospital were an apparation-free zone, so they couldn't sneak out that way. And of course, the ever-present Justin was sitting right there....
"Look, I don't like this any better than you do. Maybe even less than you do," he added. "But Tanya can be... scary. And if she tells Thatcher and he steps in... well, there's just no arguing with him. We'll make do, OK? Like I said, Thatcher's wife is a lovely woman..."
And maybe he could sneak her out later in the night. Renting a room might not be practical, though... but maybe Edmund could help out.

Danny had stayed in the room, wanting to know if the woman was going to stay or leave, but she did not want to get in the middle of that arguement.
"Of course, Tanya," She said softly, looking apologetically at the girl before following Tanya outside and closing the door.

Tanya emerged to see Thatcher waiting and Danny joining her. "Thatcher, the test results were corrupted and the results won't be forthcoming today. She needs to either stay here in the hospital to take the test again tomorrow, which is my recomendation, where I can keep an eye on her at least... with Danny's help of course." She nodded to Danny with her usual smile at the woman, though inwardly she was thinking what an idiot the woman must truely be for the results.
"Otherwise I think the girl will bolt, and she should be at least given room at your house where someone can make sure she doesn't leave with the child until we know who the father is. I don't trust that girl one bit, and I want to know the results as soon as possible." She turned towards Danny to speak to her, "Danny, if she chooses to stay at Thatcher's home instead of the hospital I would like to have either you or Grace to make a house call tomorrow night to perform the test again. I'll make sure all the proper equipment is there for use. I would do it myself of course but I think it would do more harm than good to the child. And right now that child is my main concern. I won't see any harm to that child." as long as it's a Scotts or might be a Scotts... but if not.. then the girl can be sent on her way, she thought silently.

"Well, wait, hold on a moment, Tanya," Danny said, shaking her head and looking at Thatcher, then back at her. "She doesn't have to have it done tomorrow. The longer she waits, the better, and it would be much safer and more controlled if it was done here, and not as a house call. I know you weren't there when I did the test, Tanya, but she doesn't really take it easy. She should come here, next week, and I'll tell Grace the same thing."

Suzie looked at Zachary, sharing the sentiment of hating those two.
"I won't stay with her or your brother Zachary. I'm going to get a room. I'm not going to run." She was here, wasn't she? She never should have said anything. She could have convinced Taylor to raise the baby as his either way. He loved her enough that he would have, and maybe someday would have forgiven her.

Zachary sighed. "I'll back you up," he said. "But you shouild know, Tanya will fight this. Physically, if necessary. And I don't want you or the baby to be hurt. I've worked as a duelist in the past, so I can fight her. But if Thatcher gets involved, it may not be possible to get away. Add to the fact that you don't know your way around here... But I'll do what I can." His lips quirked up in a slight smile. It almost reminded him of all the times when they'd had to sneak around to see each other under Taylor's nose.
Glancing at Justin almost pleadingly, he said, "Please... She's not comfortable there, Justin. Will you help us?"

Justin frowned, thinking about his aunt and what she was capable of. Zachary didn't know the full extent of what Tanya really was.. or Thatcher for that matter. But Justin did, he was in the end one of them too. But he sighed looking at the girl, not Zachary but the girl.
"Suzie, she's not going to be happy until they get the results.... I know that look she gave and she's not going to let anything stop her. But I know somewhere you can stay until you're ready if you promise me two things. You don't run away and you get the test redone within the week. I'll even come with you and Zach when my father and Tanya aren't with us, okay? The other thing... is that you marry a Scotts if that baby is Zachary's."
He knew a place to hide her, where she wouldn't be found... where Tanya and Thatcher couldn't find her. But in risking Tanya's wrath he wanted to make sure that if it was a Scotts baby that it be raised with a Scotts. He'd even sacrifice himself but he hoped Zachary would work things out and marry the girl like he should have instead of running away.

Suzie shook her head at Justin. "That's three things, Justin," she said softly. "I can only promise you the first two."
Then, to both of them, she said, "I'm not scared of either of them. If the resort to forcing me to anything, physically or not, I will fight them, and if they hurt the baby, then I cannot be held resposible for what happens next. I can take care of myself, and if worse comes to worse, I can take care of the baby by myself too."

Zachary pressed his lips together tightly at this. He wasn't going to force her to marry him, but if the child was his, he was going to do everything in his power to convince her that she could rely on him. They had a lot to talk about, things that they couldn't discuss here in front of Justin. Once we know if the child is mine, we'll determine what to then, not before," he said briskly, giving Justin a look. "Until then, it's all conjecture. The priority right now is getting out of here and away from them. And Susie, I know you can take care of yourself, but I'll still protect you. I don't want you to get hurt."

"We'll figure it out when we come to it," Suzie said. "Until then, I would like to go home..." she trailed off and corrected herself. "I'd like to leave here. Justin, I won't run. I will have the test within the week. But I am hungry and I am tired and I don't want to be here anymore. Can you please take me to whatever place you know of?"

"I'll have to send an owl, but I have a favor that I can call in from Emma & Benjamin Burke. Their kids are in school and they owe me a favor and I'm sure they would hide you from Thatcher and Tanya for a week if I asked them to." He looked at Zachary, knowing he knew who they were but obviously unaware of any favors they might owe him enough to do this for him. Afterall Zachary barely knew anything about Justin's adult life since he'd been gone the past three years. And they were the perfect little family with enough power to comare to the Scotts, plus Suzie would likely feel comfortable around them.

Tanya looked at Danny and really considered the use of the imperio curse, but for now she ignored the woman's comments. This was family business, and she was a perfectly qualified healer even on housecalls. It wasn't the first time that these tests were done at home, and she would easily make the girl unconsious so that no harm would come to the baby. She wasn't concerned with Danny's objections really if push came to shove.
"Thatcher, you're the head of the family.. I'll leave the decision up to you. It's my opinion however that we leave her here as Danny originally suggested and have the test performed tomorrow." She fingered her wand under her cloak as she smiled at Danny.

Zachary nodded. "That sounds good," he said. "Benjamin and I have had our differences in the past, but he's Derek's brother, so I'm sure it will be fine." He wondered about what kind of favor the Burkes owed to Justin, but he knew better than to ask. "How do we get away from Tanya? Do you have an idea for that, or do we just fight and see what she does?"
Although he didn't know that three members of his family were Death Eaters, he had no illusions about Tanya's and Thatcher's fighting abilities. Tanya, in particular, had excelled in dueling and dark arts, and he knew for a fact that she could be lethal if threatened.

"Well I can tell you that there is no way in hell I'm fighting Tanya outright, I don't feel like dying today. A fight with her is a death wish and I'm not stupid. The best way I think would be if we opted to stay here in the hospital and then sneak out when she's gone. I can offer to stay here with Suzie to make sure she stays. And it won't be my fault if she sneaks away while I'm visiting the bathroom now will it? I've no illusions that I'll still be the one to pay the price if Suzie vanishes on them, for being neglectful of my duty... but they wouldn't trust you to do it Zach and if I'm going to help her than I don't see that I really have much choice but to put myself in the line of Tanya's wrath when she gets away."
He didn't think Tanya would kill him for being remiss in his duty if she escaped as long as she didn't find out he helped on purpose. But he would pay a price for it.. he wasn't a fool. He knew Tanya's prices and for once, for family he was willing to pay the price of the pain she would extract for his own lack of judgment in letting the girl escape. For some reason this girl was worth the price and he didn't want to dwell on why.

Zachary smiled. That certainly sounded easier--and safer--than trying to get away from Tanya directly. Justin had a devious mind, Zach realized. He wasn't sure he had ever realized that about him when he'd seen him last. He was just glad that Justin was on their side this time. He didn't kid himself, however. He knew this was about Susie, and not him. There was something about her that, without realizing, seemed to draw men in. Perhaps Justin was falling under her spell, too. It hadn't escaped his notice that Justin had told her to marry "a Scotts", not Zach specifically.
"That will work," he said simply. "I'll insist on staying, but I'm sure Tanya will drag me out. When I get home, I'll say I'm going out for a drink or something, then meet Susie outside to take her to Benjamin's." He paused a minute, unable to stop himself from asking the question that was preying on his mind. "You're really putting yourself on the line for us, Justin. Why?"

Suzie sat back quietly, watching them hatch the plan. She didn't know that she was okay with staying with another part of their family, but Justin seemed to think it was a good idea, and he trusted him.
At Zach's question, her eyes trailed back to Justin. "What will happen to you?" She asked softly.

"I want that test done as soon as possible," Thatcher growled. "I want it done now. We either need to wash our hands of this, or take action, and I refuse to wait a week to know which."
Waiting a day would make him angry. If the baby wasn't his brother's, the girl would be shipped back to California without a second thought. They were not getting involved if it wasn't a Scotts baby. "Whatever you think is best, Tanya, is my decision."

"There are some things about me, even you will never know or understand Zachary." His voice was dark, soft and haunted. Yes, there were some things like his loyalty to the Dark Lord and his loyalty to serve the cause in whatever way was required of him. The greatest loyalty to his Master was protecting the children of the pureblood families and making sure they are raised knowing those loyalties to tradition and blood. If that baby was a Scotts, he would give his life to protect it... just as he would give to protect his siblings and ensure that at the same time they lived up to their pureblood status.
And yet, there was more to his reasons he was finding... maybe he was falling under Suzie's spell after all. She was so strong and yet vulnerable, and it reminded him of Gwen in so many ways. Suzie had the spirit of a Scotts, like his sister and for some reason it called to him and made him want to protect and help her. He found himself drawn to the woman, and he could easily see how Zachary had fallen for the woman. And in that knowledge he was grateful that Zachary had been the one to find her first. He valued his freedom and his heart that was free of the trappings of love... it was better Zachary be the lamb to the slaughter than his own heart. But he knew that if the baby was a Scotts and Zachary didn't marry the woman, that he ... no he wouldn't even think of it. Zachary would marry the girl, he could see that his uncle loved the woman and that was just fine by him.
"I have my reasons for helping, reasons I cannot and will not explain. But I am going to help you, Suzie. And my sacrifices are for me to know, if Thatcher and Tanya do not get their way... I will be the one who pays, not your baby. And I would not have you know the price to keep you and your baby safe. Just know that I will help Zachary to keep you safe. When we get to the Burke's home, I'll meet you there to talk to Benjamin and Emma and then I'll come back here. If anyone asks, I left to try to track you two down with no luck. Once we get the results, we'll decide what to do next.. together, okay? If I'm going to lay my life on the line for you, I expect at least that much."
