Zachary wished he had a better answer for her. "I... wasn't around a lot when they were growing up," he confessed. "I moved around a lot... just came in every so often with gifts for each of them. Justin knows me better than the rest of them, really. Guinevere, she's the only girl.... she was 14 when I went on this latest trip, and now she's 17, in her last year at Hogwarts. Then there's Timothy, and Thane, and Xavier, the youngest."

Suzie nodded. They were nieces and nephews... not his. She was sure that even though he acted like a guy who would not step up and take responsibility of a child, that he would, in fact, see the miracle that would be in his child. She had to convince herself of this, or the whole thing would be so overwhelming. She wasn't even letting herself think about how she loved him anymore. That was also too much. She was just tired, and weak from not eating. A good night's sleep and a solid plan of action would have her on her feet again.
"That's a lot of children," she said softly. "And they all have very strong names."

Zach smiled warmly. "They're great kids, really. I think you'd really like them. Thatcher's wife Alicia is an amazing woman, too. We also have a pretty big extended family. I hope you get to meet some of them, too... although maybe not Derek." He frowned at the thought of Derek and how he would react if he found out about this situation. It would mean the end of the trinity, and, if he married Susie, it would mean he would be the loser of the long-ago bet between the three of them that, whichever would be the first to get married would have to pay the other two 100 galleons.

Suzie noticed his frown and wondered who Derek was to make him frown like that. If he told her anything about that bet or the end of the unhoy trinity, she would have been gone. It would have been the last thing she heard and interpreted as him not wanting to be tied down.
"And why not Derek?"

Zach gave a short laugh. "Derek is my cousin and one of my best friends. But he's a bastard," he said, keeping his tone light. "He's quite a notorious rake. I'm not sure you'd like him." Or she would like him too much, which was a bigger concern for him. Derek and Zach, and Edmund as well, had engaged in quite a few battles over beautiful women in the past.

"Oh," Suzette said. She could guess at what he meant well enough from what she knew and had learned about Zachary. "Maybe I would, though," she said very softly, but whatever she was going to say was cut off as the door opened. She was expecting one of his family members, but it was the doctor who came in instead, a frown on her face.

Tanya walked into the room after Danny, she stood just inside the door next to Justin. But she didn't say a word instead her eyes went straight to Zachary and didn't leave. She had spoken to Thatcher outside and she had agreed not to say anything until they heard the results and heard Zachary's response. She was going to see if he took up his responsibility on his own first if the baby was his and if not then she'd step in. On the other hand, if the baby wasn't his... well then Thatcher would make sure Suzette was packed and on her way back to America in a heartbeat.

Zachary sucked in a breath as Dr. Thomas entered the room, followed by Tanya. Pretty soon, he would know whether he was going to be a father. He reached down and gripped Susie's hand nervously, for his support as much as hers. He knew what he wanted the answer to be, but he still wasn't sure if that was what she wanted, or if it was really what was best for her.

Danny sighed, looking at all of them, even Tanya who seemed eager to know.
"I have a couple of things I would like to discuss with you. The first is that there is a slight iron deficientcy in the womb... you just need to be careful with your diet for your own sake as well as the child. And secondly, the results." Her frown deepened. "I'm afraid I don't have an answer for you. The test was... inconclusive at best."

"Inconclusive? What happened?" Tanya of course was all business just then, and was tempted to call the woman incompetant but she held her breath for the moment. In her opinion Danny was not the brightest cracker in the box, and usually oblivious to what was really going on around her. Desipte the fact she was a decent healer, she certainly wasn't the best. Tanya wouldn't be surprised if Danny had been the reason for the results. Tanya would find her answers one way or another, by any means necessary. She only wished her brother had let her do the test herself and avoided this hospital all together. She wasn't happy.

"How is that possible?" Zachary said, trying to keep calm for Susie's sake. But he was frustrated; this meant more waiting and possibly bad news for him. "I don't want her to have to go through this again, not while she's having an iron deficiency... Can you tell if the baby's healthy, though?"

Suzie's heart plummeted into her stomach. She didn't want to have to take the test again, ever, and she was done waiting. She gripped Zach's hand and she wanted to cry, she was so frustrated. This was a hospital run on magic... you'd think they could pull their act together.
"Do I have to have the test done again?" She asked.

Danny sighed, wishing she could just talk to these two alone, but neither Justin or Tanya looked like they would leave, and she knew how families like this worked.
"I'm sorry... one of the samples was corrupted, and it could have been from any number of things. The baby is fine, but you're running boderline anemic, so the iron is very important at this stage. And I can't do the test again yet because it would put too much stress on you and the child. We'd like to keep you over night and do this again tomorrow."

Zach sighed again, and gave Susie's hand a squeeze. He didn't know how one of the samples could have been corrupted, and he didn't really care to ask. All he could really think about was that Susie would have to go through this again. "Would it be better to wait a little longer?" he asked. "A week, maybe? As much as I want to know now, I don't want to put too much stress on Susie or the baby. Maybe she could work on the iron deficiency and come back when she's stronger." He bent down and looked at Susie. "Would you rather stay here and do it tomorow, or go back to the house and come back in a week?"

Danny nodded. "The longer you can wait, the better, actually. I understand that you want to know right away, but whatever stress we put you through, the baby goes through it as well, and right now, the child is barely developed. A week would be ideal, but we can do it tomorrow if that's what you wish."

Suzie shook her head. "I can't wait an entire week." But then again, she didn't want to be here overnight. Being stuck in a hospital was going to do nothing to calm her down or make her any less stressed.
She sighed, defeated. "But I can't stay here."

Zachary wished he had his own place where he could take her, and be away from Thatcher and Justin and Tanya. They would also have to explain things to Alicia if Susie was to stay there for a while. But there were no real options, except to get her a room somewhere. And since he was currently broke, he couldn't even afford to pay for it. He also wasn't sure she'd let him stay in a rented room with her.
"It's up to you," he told her. "I just want to make sure you're as comfortable as possible."

Suzie just sighed, quiet for a moment. She was conidering the same options that Zach was, except that she was leaning heavily towards renting her own room. She did not yet consider if she would let Zach stay with her or not. She knew she shouldn't be alone, and they did have a lot of things to work out. And the oppertunity to talk with just the two of them would be fleeting.
"I'll come back in a few days or a week or something."

"She'll be staying here or going to Thatchers. The other alternative is my appartment." She left no room for other choices, Tanya would have her way one method or another. She wasn't about to let the girl run off with a possible Scotts baby, and she wanted an end to this little question of who's baby it was. Her hands crossed over her chest, which for Tanya was not a good sign, meaning she was going to have her way if she had to use the unforgivables to get it.

Although the particulars of this situation were unlike anything he'd ever dealt with before, there was one thing that still, apparently, hadn't changed. His family was stifling. There was a reason he fled all over the world and spent so much time away from his family. The truth was, he hated them. They drove him crazy with their rules and structure and their insistence that things be done their way. He'd felt smothered by it all, and that was why he'd traveled so often and for so long. It was a lot easier to miss them when he wasn't around to be reminded of just how annoying they were.
And if not for Susie, he would probably have one foot out the door right now. They were already making him crazy; butting in where, in his opinion, they had no business being. He had half a mind to take Susie somewhere in the middle of the night and cut Thatcher and Tanya out of the whole situation. Hell, he didn't even need Thatcher's money, not really. Edmund's fortune was massive, and probably wouldn't think anything of loaning him 10,000 galleons or more.
But Thatcher and Tanya were involved now, and there was no way in hell they were going to let Susie out of their sight. He frowned deeply as a muscle in his jaw began to twitch. "Fine," he said, glaring at Tanya. "But I don't want her bothered, is that understood? She needs to rest and gather her strength."
