He listened with interest as he always did. "Ice skate? I don't think that is a stupid or silly idea. I think that would be a great idea. We should do that this winter. I've never ice skated before, so I'll go along with you, if you wouldn't mind. Besides, I'm positive that you will surprise yourself when you least suspect it." Kyle offered her a smile. "I think that you'd do great when it came to ice skating. In fact, I think that you can do great in anything that you put your mind to."

Hallie was beginning to think Kyle might be crazy. "It's a nice sentiment, to say that people can do anything they put their minds to. But it doesn't always work out that way. To be good at ice skating, you have to be graceful. I can't even walk down the stairs without tripping. I don't know why I'm like that, but I always have been. My mum thought it would get better when I got my glasses, but it never did. But I wish... I wish I could be like a professional skater, doing spins and jumps on the ice." She got a dreamy look in her eyes as she talked. "But it's never going to happen. I'll just fall on the ice and knock out a few teeth or something."

He looked at Hallie with a frown. "Hallie Monroe," Kyle said stubbornly. "You can to be graceful. The more you tell yourself that you're not going to be graceful, then you're not going to be. You have to think positive about yourself and things will get better. I promise. I will take you ice skating. You just have to think that you'll be graceful. I'll be there with you. I'll make sure that you don't get hurt."
Kyle studied her face for a moment. "For one day, just think that you're going to do something, and you'll be able to do it. I promise things are going to get better."

Kyle had much more faith in her than she had in herself. It was strange to her; she couldn't help but wonder why he felt that way. "Well... maybe you're right," she said, although her voice still held a note of doubt. "But I probably shouldn't start with something with as much potential for disaster as ice skating. Maybe..." She paused and bit her lip nervously. "Maybe you could show me how to dance? Just a little bit, anyway. Something simple."

Hallie wanted Kyle to show her how to dance? Kyle became slightly nervous and bit his bottom lip. "Um, sure," he said. He shouldn't be nervous. He was going to dance with her at the ball anyway, so right now shouldn't be any different.
Kyle swallowed and looked like he was calm, although he was shaking on the inside. He stood up and offered his hand to Hallie. "Dancing will be fun. Just don't think about it, and I promise you'll do just fine."
