"You should just do me a favor then and drop out," she replied sarcastically. "Honestly, I don't know where you get it from, your mouth I mean. I don't think anyone is as obnoxious as you are Aubrielle. You need to take you studies more seriously. You're in fifth year now." Lyra didn't know why she cared so much, other than the earfull she habitually recieved from her parents.

"And you're a 7th year, and you attend less classes than I do. Do you expect that kind of thing to fly when you're out of school, or do you just intend to spend the rest of your life making babies?"
Aubri was angry. Her sister was so hipocritical, it wasn't fair. Aubri had to be perfect and Lyra could do whatever she wanted.

Making babies? Clearly her sister knew her not at all. She did not want children, well maybe just one but not multiple children for sure. And that issue would be dealt with a long time from now, seventh year or not. "I have plans for my future, Aubri. Not that's its any of your business. But they do not require a diploma. And yes if I wanted to spend the rest of my life making babies," she stressed the word IF, "I have the means to do so. I'm attractive and well liked. What could you do with what you've been given? Sell train tickets I suppose..." That was cruel, and she knew it. But Lyra had very little patience for her sister today.

Sam's brows rose at the rising hostility, "Okay ladies, so...the Yule ball is coming." she thought their spat was amusing as the next person except for the fact that there were four or five other people watching and thinking it was amusing as well and it didn't show Lyra or Aubri off to their best sides. Her spat with Charlotte wasn't anywhere near as entertaining, but her spat involved controlled emotions and subtle digs whereas Aubri and Lyra just went at it the way sisters did.

Sam was trying to make the conversation more visitor-friendly, so Lyra obliged. She would not say anymore about her sister, unless prevocked of course. But she had nothing to say about the Yule Ball, it was so far away. "What of it Sam? Got any news you'd like to tell us?"
((OOC:This thread is set before the fallout of Rystain and Lyra, so I'm downplaying any interest in Rystain at the moment. FYI))

She shook her head with a small laugh, "No, but it's the topic of the week I was hoping you might tell me something." she shrugged. They still had yet to pick out dresses, while they had gotten the advanced catalogues both had been too picky. Sam knew she was probably going to have to get something designed from scratch, if there was one thing she was grateful to her mother for it was her taste. Marrion had exquisite taste and she passed it to her daughter.

Aubri rolled her eyes. Really? This was all they had to talk about?
"Have a date yet, Lyra?" She asked, interjecting since neither of them even had anything to say about the dance. What two terribly dull people. "Sam? I imagine the boys must be climbing over each other to get to the two of you."

Sam actually found the topic just as or more dull than Aubri, she was torn between loving social events and despising them. If she were honest there was something grandly amusing about getting all dressed up and sparkling like a diamond in front of all your peers as you glide across a dance floor it was all fun and well, if her mother hadn't choked every ounce of pleasure out of the events. Sam was judged on everything from her dancing to her looks to her posture to her speech, especially at social events and never, no matter how pretty she looked, no matter how many people complimented Marrion on a daughter well behaved, no matter how wonderful other people thought she was, her mother only saw failure, and remarked on every bit of it.
Getting lost in thought Sam snapped out of it quickly and turned to Aubri, " um...Something like that." she smiled, "Yourself? Anyone in mind to take?"

Aubrielle's eye roll did not go unnoticed but Aubri's question seemed innocent enough. Lyra would amuse her little sister. "There are plenty of boys trying to get the courage to ask Sam and I. I'm sure someone will ask you eventually Aubri."
Lyra was looking forward to the dance more than Sam, she assumed. Even though her friend had continued to bother her about the dance, her date, her dress, and everything else under the sun, there seemed a bit of distance there. Lyra didn't ask what was going on with Sam, as she preferred to keep things light and fun. But seeing Sam's distant face now made her wonder if she shouldn't bite the bullet and ask. She gave Samantha a puzzled look.

Samantha for her part was trying to ignore Lyra's questioning gaze and focused more on what Aubri had to say. She didn't want to think about her mother. The witch was dead and buried and there was no need to go back to that nightmare.

Aubri gave her sister a mock-hurt look. "Actually, I've already been asked. I haven't decided if I'll say yes or not yet."
Let Lyra suck on that for a while... someone had asked Aubri before her. She hoped that hurt Lyra's ego just a little.
"I shouldn't really worry about it, except that our parents will, but I have no idea what to wear."

Samantha eyed Lyra speculatively, she thought to invite this girl to join them in their search for dresses but curbed her tongue when she saw that there was tension. Also Lyra didn't have a date yet so there might have been some upset there...misplaced jealousy perhaps?

Lyra would not admit it, but Sam already knew her quite well. She usually didn't let on too much with girlfriends, they were too catty to be trustworthy. But Lyra was slightly jealous that her little sister was asked before she was. Everyone acknowledged that Lyra was the prettier of the two, which meant that she should have been asked first. "Oh really? Who asked you?" Her tone was that of doubt, not of curiosity. Watch it be some lame Ravenclaw with a crush.
Even though she rarely showed caring for her sister, she wasn't about to let Aubrielle embarass her by showing up to the dance in something plain. "Sam and I are going shopping dor dress robes. You'll come with us. We'll blow of classes and make a day of it. I know how fond you are of ditching."

Aubri smirked. "Wouldn't you like to know?" She asked, although the mean streak in her told her to say that Rystain had asked her. But Lyra was close enough to him to know she was lying. Even if he did have a habit of dating mutiple girls, Lyra would know who was on his radar.
"I already have a dress, Lyra," she added, looking at her nails and looking bored. Inwardly, she was smirking.

Samantha's senses honed in, this was a sibling rivalry a catty chat but they were sisters and hopefully at the end of the day they still loved one another. Were this another girl Sam's claws might have been added into the mix, she didn't know when she had become protective of Lyra, it was a strange friendship to say the least but it was the first real friendship she had made and she was determined to keep it.
"Oh that's a shame." Sam announced with a sigh, "Lyra and I haven't been able to pick anything out from the catalogs, there's Francine, and Chevalier, and Risque de Couer" she shook her head dropping the names of a few of the top designers that had sent her private catalogs to view for dress ideas, " if you could have come then at least you could have taken one of the dresses as it is there are too many beautiful ones to pick." she sighed making it sound like a horrible chore when any other girl would be salivating at the chance to get a dress by one of the designers. Most girls could not afford the dresses, and those that could bought on the rack, but because these designers wanted to be featured in Sam's magazine she neither had to pay, nor worry that someone else might be wearing the same dress as her at the dance.

Aubri raised an eyebrow. It sounded like a nice thing, sure. But the girl was name dropping and clearing implying that she was better than Aubri, and that her and Lyra would have much better dresses.
Like she cared. Aubri liked being a girl of priveldege, but it wasn't something she cared to show off. She was sure Lyra would be thrilled though.
And she wasn't going to take one of the dresses that Sam didn't think was good enough. Honestly, she wasn't stupid.
"Another dance perhaps," she said, acting bored.

To be honest Sam didn't fancy it either, being a girl of privilege for her had been nothing but responsibility, but she filled the role, and quite nicely at that because she didn't really have a clue what else to be.
Sam smiled, " Godric knows there are enough functions to keep us primped and styled to torturous perfection throughout the year." she said shaking her head, there were many events that girls in the more elite of society would have to attend. The Yule Ball was the only one that was school ordained and it was exciting in itself, but Sam had hosted many gatherings and she was certain that everyone present had been to many dances and society events that this ball wasn't really anything special.
But who knows, maybe it would surprise her.

"Christ Aubri! Don't act so smug. You know anything Sam can get for you far outdoes whatever you've picked out." Lyra looked over at Sam. "Clearly her taste in clothing is yet another thing we do not share. Honestly, it's like we're not even related." Lyra shook her disgustedly then leaned it on the back of her chair, staring toward the ceiling. There had to be something else that she and Sam could do to kick this boredom she felt. And it wouldn't include her annoying little sister.

Sam could practically see Lyra's skin itching from this "boredom" and felt her own amusement, she was quite bored herself, but she had learned several tricks over the years to keep her mind occupied and sharp while participating in these "tete a tetes" with society...or Children of society rather.
Sam's eyes lowered demurely when Lyra chastised Aubri but she didn't say anything, anything she would have said would have been unnecessary and while she sided with Lyra only because Lyra was her friend, she wasn't going to appear so presumptuous or smug, even if she did feel Lyra's compliment and was strangely affected by it. She felt...proud?

"Oh, I'm sorry, Lyra. I forgot that you need other people to have your opinions for you. I forget how difficult it is for you to think on your own, even with something as simple as choosing your own dress, no offense to your taste in clothing, Sam," Aubri said, finally having enough. She didn't appreciate being chastised by her sister in front of others. She stood from her chair and grabbed her bag.
