"You would think that, Aubri. Merlin!" Lyra hated the strange teaching practices that Professor Long used to try to get students to want to learn. The fact that it was an extremely useful class apparently wasn't enough.

Samantha studied their "newcomer" without any idea that her and Lyra were related at all, she was almost waiting for a deeper introduction between the two. If she had known that Aubrey was Lyra's little sister it might have been odd for her just in an ironic sense of the word to be friends with the sister that was two years older than herself rather than the one she shared a dorm with.

"Well it's better than being stuck in a classroom for a couple of hours, isn't it?" Aubri looked around the small group, wondering if any of them would back her up or agree with her. She doubted it, but it couldn't hurt to check.
"Anyway, I missed class today. What did she have you do?"

Kassia entered the room and was surprised to find so many Slytherins there at once all gathered and talking and a brief shiver went down her spine, that many Slytherins together plotting or scheming and the entire school would be on it's knees. Sure they were all young enough now, but the power these people would have later on...was a little fierce. Of course she could rightly add her name to that pile of pretension and did by walking over.
Kassia heard Aubri's last comment, " Professor Long?" she asked. She knew they were talking about a teacher and Transfiguration was the most unconventional, "Such a strange teacher."

Sam was enjoying the verbal toss back and forth and the subtle cues between the two girls, as if Lyra had been hiding an adversary all along just like Sam was unwittingly doing. It was amusing but Sam hid the smile well, simply to add a little heat to their flame all in good fun of course she merely nodded when Aubri looked around for confirmation, it wasn't as if Sam was siding with Aubri but she had already vocalized that she enjoyed the class.

"Thank you Kass," Lyra said, as if the girl had had some huge impact on the conversation with her four little words. Lyra took out her wand and directed it at a chair across the room. The chair began to move, scooting itself across the floor until it stopped next to Kassia. Then she returned to looking at her sister. "And why didn't you go to class today? You know mum thinks you're my responsibility while we're here. If you get me in trouble I'll have your head."

Kassia, unsure of what she was being thanked for glanced warily around the group, but as the chair scooted forward she simply let go of the matter and returned, "Thank *you* Lyra." while taking a seat.

Aubri just watched as Lyra pulled a chair over for the other girl. Granted, she had taken the last one, but the point remained.
"It's fine, Lyra," she said softly. "I just didn't feel like going, but it's the only class I've missed this year so far."

Samantha's eyes widened at that,"Wait a minute...mum...Sisters? Lyra this is your sister?" she asked, how it had escaped her she didn't know and was a bit embarrassed about not embarrassed enough to not smile but embarrassed all the same because of who she was she should have known about Lyra's sister.

Aubri rolled her eyes. Most people guessed that they were sisters straight away. They looked alike enough, but it wasn't something either of them were particularly proud of.
She glanced at Lyra and then towards Sam, her dorm mate.
"Yes, we're sisters."

"Get with the program Sam." Lyra could have laughed at Sam's reaction. "Aubrielle is my baby sister. And apparently she thinks she can just ditch her lessons without repercussions." She glared at Aubri.

"Like you have a perfect attendence record," Aubri replied, a bit of a bite to her voice. She wasn't in the mood to take crap for missing a class. One class. Her grades were still mostly better than Lyra's anyway.

Samantha was now highly amused by the siblings and watching their "argument" with a bit of a smile that she was attempting to hide. They were so...cute... as siblings who "hated" eachother it was almost sweet. Sam didn't have any siblings, well not that were related to her by blood anyhow and well she had always wanted a sister.

"My record is not the issue. I get in trouble for ME missing lessons. And I get in trouble for YOU missing lessons. It must be fabulous to be the baby, getting away with murder." She both loved and disliked her sister at the same time. As the youngest of the family Aubrielle was given a certain amount of leeway. And as the oldest, Lyra was like the test child. Everything her parents had heard they should do as parents, Lyra got to be the genui pig. And when they realized it didn't work, it was too intense, or it was humiliating, they fixed it when Aubri came around. There was clearly some jealousy there.

"Professor Long isn't going to OWL home because I missed one class," Aubri said, getting irritated enough that she knew she should just get up and leave, but she didn't. Not yet.
She turned her attention to Kassia, another of her dorm mates, and to Sam. "You went, though. How was class today?"

Sam smiled, "It was entertaining. The professor changed our entire classroom into a beach and we sunned ourselves...well for the first ten minutes or so." she shrugged, "Now we're doing some sort of treasure hunting, it's really quite fun...if you can get into the spirit of it that is."
Call her a mischief maker but she was still speaking the truth although she thought this sibling "affection" was beyond cute.

Kassia, knowing better than to get between the two sisters simply said," It was...different." and that was all before she straightened and glanced at the others in the room thinking of some other topic to bring up.

"I'm sorry I missed it," Aubri said, though she really wasn't. She didn't mind not having missed it. It probably would have been beyond boring with everyone laying around, sunning themselves.

Lyra knew her sister was not really sorry about missing a lesson, and even though she was right in knowing it wouldn't get back to their parents right away, eventually the Newbury's would find out and Lyra would be in trouble. She didn't know how they did it, but they always knew. "So which lessons were you able to make it to, Aubri? Any?"

Aubri set an even, cold glare on her sister. That was rather unnecessary. Everything Lyra said to her was rather unnecessary.
"Why, none, actually," she deadpanned, the look on her face not changing at all. "In fact, I think I'm going to fail the term."
Why did she even bother? Lyra had everything; the looks, the popularity, the favoritism from their parents. Why in Merlin's name did she have to take Aubri down every chance she got?
