Albus smiled at Moody as he made his speech, then returned to his seat. "Thank you, Alastor. I know you'll be an excellent judge."
Turning back to the students, he said, "Now for the moment I know you have all been waiting for." He waved his wand and the Goblet of Fire, which had been sitting in the corner, slid forward so that it was front and center, just below the upraised platform where Dumbledore was standing.
The goblet spewed out some blue flames, as if it were impatient to begin revealing the names.
"Before the first name is revealed, I must again remind our champions what is at stake. Not only the prize of 5,000 galleons and 500 points for your house, but also the pride of your house and fellow students. You will be representing your fellow housemates, who I hope will support you in this competition. But even though this is a competition, don't forget about the ulitimate goal of the tournament, which is to build cooperation and fellowship. The champions will not be competing in a vacuum or against faceless people, so if you learn to work together, you'll be surprised what you can accomplish."
He paused a moment to allow all of that to sink in, then he spoke again. "And now... will the Goblet of Fire please reveal the name of the Gryffindor Champion!"

Alice gulped and shifted in her chair nervously when the headmaster asked for the Gryffindor name to be announced. She couldn't help but reach for Frank's hand again squeezing it for support. She was nervous and hopeful at the same time. She knew it would be dangerous but she hoped she was up for the task and the Goblet of Fire would deem her worthy enough to be named. Alice felt about as impatient as the Goblet did with it's blue flames growing higher. She held her breath.

The goblet's flames grew brighter and brighter, and then, with a brilliant blue flash, it spit out the first name. It fluttered wildly in the air, looking almost like a bird emerging triumphant from a volcano.

Dumbledore grabbed the piece of paper in mid-air and looked down at it. With a smile on his face, he read out the name.
"Alice Prewett!"

Rayne was right there with the rest of the Gryffindors when the table erupted in cheers and applause. She noticed those nearest Alice were hugging her, and people were reaching across the table to pat her shoulder and things.
She, like most of the house, was on her feet, cheering, but she leaned towards Nate. "I was rooting for you," she said, still genuinely happy for Alice.

Frank held Alice's hand in support and squeezed it gently. There was tension in the air, as the Goblet of Fire turned into blue flames. Time seemed to slow down, and his hand seemed to tighten around Alice's hand in excitement.
As Dumbledore called out Alice's name, a huge grin spread across his face. The people around him jumped up, but he stayed beside Alice. Out of excitement and joy, he leaned in and kissed Alice's cheek. Yet again, he didn't care who saw. "Congratulations Alice," he said smiling and talking over the sound of the clapping.

Alice was still in shock when her name was called she held tightly to Frank's hand still while everyone at her table stood up, and those nearby gave her hugs. She smiled when Frank kissed her cheek though and it gave her that extra bit of support she really needed as she stood up in slow motion a mixture of aprehension and elatement going through her head.
Once Alice had managed to get on her feet she slowly and then more confidently, yet humbly got out of her seat and walked towards the dias where Dumbledore stood holding out her parchement where she'd scribbled her name. She realized she was holding her breath again and let it out smiling as she reached the Headmaster.

Dumbledore smiled at Alice and clapped her lightly on the shoulder as he handed her the piece of parchment with her name on it.
"Congratulations, Alice!" he said loudly. "Students, I present to you, Alice Prewett, Gryffindor Champion!" He waited for a round of applause from the students.

Alice beamed up at Dumbledore and then looked back to her house table to see all the smiling supportive faces cheering a her. On the inside she was nervous and knew that this was going to be as dangerous and serious and difficult as much as it would be a fun challenge to represent her house. She caught Frank's look of support before taking the parchment piece that the Headmaster handed her.
She looked up at Dumbledore waiting for him to tell her where to go next or if she was supposed to just stand there, as she looked again back to her table and hoped she didn't let them down.

Sirius clapped and let out a loud whistle as Alice was presented as the Gryffindor Champion. He knew she would be the perfect champion, and he was incredibly proud of her. Since he was too young to compete himself, he was glad to know that at least someone he cared about would be in the tournament.
"Yeah, Alice!" he called, cupping his hands over his mouth to amplify his voice.

"OK, Alice, just step right this way," Dumbledore said quietly. He led her over to the door that was hidden behind the staff table; it led into a small antechamber which was used as a waiting room for productions.
"Wait in there for a few minutes, and you'll soon be joined by each of the champions as they are announced."

Nate smiled at Rayne's comment and said, "thanks but I think Alice will be a better champion anyways, I'm glad she got it." He was sincere, he had great faith in Alice thought they weren't really close he knew she was a very skilled witch. But he was still happy to have Rayne say that to him anyways. He wondered briefly for not the first time if he should ask her to the dance but disregarded the thought as quickly as it came, he was an idiot of course she'd say no.
Nate clapped as loud as any other Gryffindor for Alice and didn't sit down until the rest of his table did.

Alice nodded to Professor Dumbledore then and headed in the direction he'd indicated. She'd never been in this room before in all her last 6 years of Hogwarts. But as she passed by the staff table she suddenly realized Andromeda had dissapeared and frowned as she walked toward the antechamber part excited at her name being called still, part in a bit of shock, while part of her was rational and serious of what it would mean to be one of the champions, and also part worried about her cousin. Luckily her back was to the room and no one could see her mixed face of emotions as she stepped from the room and dissapeared out of sight.

Andi didn't even look up when she heard the door open. It seemed very far away and she felt disconnected from the room, and where she was. When she'd slipped into the back room, she'd dissolved into tears, but this time quiet ones. She didn't want to be heard or to call any further attention to herself, even though she couldn't quite pull herself together.
Now she was curled up in a ball on the floor, again not having made it to the sofa, and crying quietly.

Professor McGonagall clapped as loudly as her former house students had standing proudly of Alice. She would have been equally as proud no matter who had been chosen but she was very happy to hear that one of the girls who usually had a good head on her shoulders had been selected. She would have to make a point to speak with the girl later and see if she needed anything.
Minerva knew that it would be a dangerous set of challenging tasks although they had made sure that many safety precautions had been taken, however there was always a chance things didn't go as planned and she was sure all four of those chosen tonight would likely need some counciling to deal with their anxieties or just to talk to someone impartial.
She smiled after Alice as she left the room before reseating herself calmly her normal impartial expression back in place as if having never left as she scanned the crowd of students wondering who would be chosen next.

Dumbledore, having gotten a quick glimpse of Andromeda in the antechamber, knew that it might be a good idea to delay a little, so that the two cousins could have a bit of a talk before the next champion arrived. Besides, the Goblet of Fire seemed a bit spent after spitting out the first name. It was best not to rush the goblet into revealing the names too quickly, otherwise it detracted from the dramatic effect.
"And now we will have a brief performance from our school choir, singing the Gryffindor fight song," said Dumbledore.
The choir was not even assembled yet, as they had not expected to perform today. And there was no Gryffindor fight song. A few students looked up at him in abject confusion. Dumbledore waved his wand, and a small chorus of house elves appeared, armed with sheet music and began to sing.
"Oh, Gryffindor... bravest of the brave, Boldest of the bold... you will prevail... you will prevail...."
The song went on for about 10 minutes, making absolutely no sense and sounding completely dreadful.

Bek frowned with dissapointment, but only for a moment before she applauded for Alice. She wasn't all that dissapointed that her name wasn't called. Like she told Alice and Frank, she really only signed up to make Maxi feel better about signing up. So now she cheered for Alice, and laughed along with Frank and the others at the Elves' dismal singing.

Samantha's gut coiled for an attack, Alice was Gryffandor's Champion...Oh Dear Godric. She would just have to keep her eyes open that was all. She knew Alice didn't like her much and well she wasn't sure what she wouldn't put past that girl to do. Her smile didn't waver however as she clapped, not heartily, for the champion, she did however smile softly at Frank.

Evelyn drifted in and out of paying attention, even when Dumbledore began introducing the judges she was't really focusing. Her mind was a million miles away. But when her table erupted into cheers and hoots, Evelyn was forced to pay attention. Anyone who was not deaf would have heard the noise from the Gryffindor table. Evelyn looked around to realize that Alice had been named champion. She clapped loudly with her group, forgetting, momentarily, her dramas.

"OK, thanks for that," Dumbledore said as the chorus of elves stopped singing and apparated with a crack. He wondered idly to himself whether he was now going to have to have the ghastly chorus sing a "fight song" for the other three houses after the champions were announced. Wouldn't want to seem impartial, after all...
"And now we will announce the Hufflepuff champion!" Dumbledore announced boldly, waving his wand at the Goblet of Fire.
